Chapter Text

If you rewrite your life, may I still play a part?

In the next one, will you find me?

I'll be the boy with the pink carnation pinned to my lapel

Who looks like hell and asks for help

And if you do, I'll know it's you

I can't imagine you without

The same smile in your eyes

There is something about you

That I will always recognize

And if you don't remember

I will try to remind you

Of the hummingbirds

You know the ones (I know the ones)

And the baby scorpion

And the winter lunar halo

– Boygenius, We're In Love

Castiel gets sent to Earth for the second time. Assigned with the holy mission of protecting God's favourites: Sam and Dean Winchester. Sure, he didn't know yet why but he obeyed as the good little soldier that he was.

Castiel finds himself taking over the body of Cassie Robinson, a human college girl.

Cassie’s mission is to wait for Dean to find her and protect him at all costs, John Winchester is hunting a powerful demon and prophecies have foretold the impending death of the Winchesters and Cassie is the only one who can stop that from happening.

It’s a cold morning in Athens, Oklahoma when she flies to her first lecture, according to the angels’ calculation Dean should be on campus today, alone as his little brother Sam is away at college. Her goal is to keep him distracted enough so that he doesn't follow his father on the hunt.

Her boots click on the vinyl floors, she looks around nervously, it's never that loud in Heaven. Humans are fascinating, although loud and smelly she finds them interesting so far. She doesn't recall much of the last time she went down to Earth some centuries ago, she doesn't want to mostly.

Cassie hurries outside the building as Dean is scheduled to walk in right now, she must run into him to induce contact. She flies there so it's quicker and Dean will be surprised. The first time she sees him he's not looking at her because she's just spawning into thin air, his eyes are looking down at his cellphone and then he looks up at her apologetically, “Sorry Miss I didn't see you–” he stops in his tracks, the beginning of a smirk creeping up on his face as he blinks a couple of times.

Cassie is confused by his reaction, he seems… pleasantly surprised, could it be he already knows who she is?

“My name is Cassie, and you are?” she replies, trying her best to force the pleasant tone humans use to modify their voice in order to appear as friendly.

“Dean, I'm not from around here, what do you study?”

“History. I've just finished my lecture.” Cassie took classes about human conversations and how to make this mission successful, her teacher was an angel named Balthazar a close friend who is accustomed to human behavior.

“You don't happen to have some free time right now do you?” Dean looks at her, scanning her whole vessel.

“Actually I do.” Cassie replies nonchalantly.

“Oh my, did you just fall from Heaven Cassie? Let me get you some coffee.”

Cassie nods, smiling as best she can to look natural and follows her target outside, they head towards a nearby coffee shop.

"How did you guess?" She says, not understanding his joke.

Dean laughs brightly, throwing his head back his side profile looking golden in the morning light.
