Chapter Text
“That was wild!” Ochako said as the class re-entered the classroom. “Nejire went like whoosh! And then Kenji sent Gryphon out like cawww, And then Deku and Tsu got Mina and I out of the net in time to go help the Ground team rescue some people!”
“It was most certainly an exciting rescue training operation.” Ida said. “I just hope we did not exhaust ourselves too much.”
“You better not have.” Aizawa said, removing his feet from the table. “Because Class 1-B has requested a joint training exercise and they want to do it today.”
Denki released an audible groan.
“Ugh, really? Today? Didn’t they read the schedule?” He said.
“Apparently, which is why they requested today. They want to have 5 combat and capture matches, 4v4 per match. Very similar to the training you did on your second day here at UA.” Aizawa said.
The whole class began to chatter, a storm of complaints and bemoaning filling the room.
“We just got back!”
“I’m not fighting that jerk again.”
“We need time to rest!”
“Everyone listen up.” Aizawa said sharply, getting the whole group’s attention. “You’ll be going up against opponents who know your every move, strength, and weakness, while you remain exhausted and at the disadvantage of being unprepared. However, I have faith that each and every one of you has the capacity to win if you work as teams and stay on your toes.”
“Very well sir! We will do our best!” Momo said, before motioning for the class to follow her lead.
“Come on, 1-A! The time has come to prove ourselves worthy of the top class once again!”
The class followed their president to the requested training field. Today, it carried the visage of an industrial district in a city, with pipelines, wires, and grey buildings all around the arena. Class 1-B was at the front area, alongside All Might and Midnight, who had headsets with microphones on, and were sitting at a commentator’s table. A massive screen displaying several dozen camera angles hung high in the air, supported by tall steel girders.
“Welcome, 1-A!” Kendo started, before Monoma shoved her out of the way.
“Why are you so late? Is it because you fear failure? That must be it! I knew it! The inferior 1-A is clearly scared of their superiors, and must be taught fully to obey their mas-“
DONK!
Kendo’s enlarged hand fell on Monoma’s head, knocking him clean out once again.
“Sorry about that! Again, I promise he’s the only one of us with that dumb mindset. This is just going to be a fun and friendly match to see where both classes are strong and where they need improvement. Sound good?” She asked.
“Sure thing. Just try to go easy on us, we just came back from a rescue training session.” Momo said.
Kendo placed her hands over her mouth. “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry! Monoma told me you all were free today, that snake! If you want to postpone, I can surely-“
“NO WAY!” Katsuki roared. “If we’re gonna do this, we’re doing it TODAY!”
“YEAHHH!” Tetsutetsu agreed. “I love how you never duck a fade!”
“It’s the 1-A Way!” Kirishima said, fist bumping his steely friend.
Vlad King, the teacher of 1-B, stepped forward with a paper containing the rules of the matches.
“Here are the rules we agreed upon. Two teams of four will face each other head to head. Serious violence such as broken bones, grievous wounds, or other injuries that could take a week or longer to recover are prohibited. Victory is declared when one team has captured every member of the opposing team, or at the end of 20 minutes, if one team has captured more members than the others. Is everything understood? Good. Everyone assemble into teams of four.” He said.
Immediately, the classes began to form into teams.
“Kenji! Come on, let’s find a team.” Himiko said, dragging her boyfriend towards the rest of the class.
“Ok, I’m coming, don’t gotta yank me.” Kenji said, jogging to keep pace with the tall girl.
“Hey! Katsuki! Grab Hitoshi and come with us!” Himiko called, waving the blonde boy over.
“Huh? Alright. C’mere, Purps.” Katsuki said, wrapping an arm around Hitoshi shoulders and guiding him towards the team.
“Hmm? Oh, neat.” Hitoshi said, casually meandering toward the team.
“Good to have you, bud. Our team’s complete!” Himiko said. Aizawa walked by and handed them the number 3.
“This will be your match sign. 1-A gets numbers, 1-B gets letters.” He said.
“Sweet.” Katsuki said, pinning the number onto his shoulder.
As the four of them looked around, they saw other teams form and begin planning. Once everyone had gotten into a four person group, Vlad King stepped forward again.
“Excellent work. The first teams up will be Team 4 and Team B.” He said, gesturing to the massive screen behind All Might and Midnight.
Match 1
Team 4: Momo Yaoyorozu, Shoto Todoroki, Mezo Shoji, Koji Koda.
Team B: Shoda Nirengeki, Yosetsu Awase, Togaru Kamakiri, Yui Kodai
”Team B, proceed to the 1-B Start Point. Team 4, you do the same and head to the 1-A start point. We’ll be watching everything from the screens, so play fair.” Aizawa said.
“Yes sir.” Momo said with a salute, as the two teams departed.
Match Begin!
Momo saw the words light up on the screen far away, then turned around to her team and crouched down.
“Alright team. If we want to win, we need to do it methodically. They outmatch us with firepower, with both Kodai and Nirengeki, plus Awase’s Weld quirk…”
“They can create massive projectiles to smash right through my ice barriers.” Shoto finished.
”Precisely.” Momo said. Suddenly, a loud impact rocked the area as a titanic screw speared into the ground a few feet away.
“Seems like they’ve already gotten started.” Koda whispered.
“Really? What gave it away?” Shoji hissed.
“Shoto! Subzero Fortress!” Momo called, and Shoto obeyed, raising thick walls of ice.
“Alright. We need a plan and fast.” Momo continued, pulling out the book of plans she had written with Kenji. Quickly flipping to the Shoto section, she found a plan that suited their needs.
“Shoto, plan 78, Ice Age!” She shouted, before dropping a large metal dome over herself, Shoji and Koda.
Shoto nodded, then closed his eyes, concentrating on the ice powers that were emerging from his left side. He focused on the coldest things he could imagine.
The polar winds…
The southern Sea…
Himiko’s demeanor when the sweets shop doesn’t have raspberry fudge…
With a sharp exhale he unleashed a massive wave of ice that coated the entire battlefield, freezing everyone and everything in place.
“Plan executed successfully. It’s safe.” He said, walking over to his teammate’s dome and releasing a gentle stream of fire to melt away the ice around it.
Momo stepped out of the dome, alongside Shoji and Koda.
“Excellent work, Shoto. That was… really effective.” She said. “I just hope our other teams have similar ease.”
Shoto nodded. “I do too. Though, something tells me that won’t be as likely as it seems.”
