The Legend of Zelda: A Taste for Adventure

Summary:

Hyrule thrives in a time of great bounty. The fields are full of food, and the people are content. But something is brewing in the corners of the kingdom, something to leave a bad taste in the mouth. Perhaps it's time for a new Hero to step up to the plate!

Notes:

This work is rated G or YA for depictions of fantasy violence.

I'm using the Original Legends tag to indicate that this is a wholly new legend, this story is not based on any existing game in the franchise, it's an entirely new story within the tropes of the series. Whole new cast and Hyrule to explore.

Chapter 1: The Legend

Chapter Text

Legend speaks of a hero, when all others thought the day was done.

Someone who would get back up, try again.

Prepare a new batch, find a new way.

And then tend the world again as it needed to grow anew.

In the quaint kingdom of Hyrule, trouble has always been close to follow. Whether demon kings or evil wizards or great blights to haunt the land, it has always struggled to grow. It has not had time for the simple life, always having to repair itself from another war, endless in the cycle.

That is until now. Finally, there is calm. Nothing exciting, nothing troubles the lands. Simply peace. Dungeons have crumbled over to make room for farmland, storehouses, granaries, restaurants! For a moment in the kingdom’s long history, monsters are of little concern and instead there is a focus on the more pleasant things in life.

And for a nation like Hyrule, filled to the brim with magic, that has led to quite the explosion of culinary talents. Whether the fiery flavors of Death Mountain or the salty selections of the sea collected near oceanside Zora’s Domain, there is a taste suitable for everyone somewhere in these lands.

          Or, almost everyone.

One would think for all this prosperity, all these options, there would be nothing to complain over. Surely, there is something for everyone to find enjoyable. Even a picky eater would enjoy a well-made loaf of bread, grown from a wide array of crops in Hyrule’s fertile fields.

Yet, there are rumors of something unsettling to the stomach running amok. A dish turned bad too soon, a crop losing its flavor to only make things that are bland, a field’s produce just doesn’t glisten like it used to come harvest season.

Hyrule holds out hope that this is a bad season and nothing more. After all they’ve been through, surely a longer rest is due. Let evil turn the other way and allow them to enjoy this era of good harvest a little longer.

          And so our story begins…
