Chapter Text
Hope. Silver knew nothing of hope. It was finicky, never there when you needed it the most. He knew nothing of the previous world. Before Iblis took over. He wasn’t there when the world turned into a land of despair, wasn’t there to see people clawing at walls for a drop of hope. Hope seemed so far away when those who carried the memories of the previous world all faded.
It wasn’t until Silver was born that people regrew that seed of hope. With his psychokinesis, those around him believed he would save them from Iblis and his flames. So, he was trained. They trained him to become a beacon of hope. Their saviour in this desolate land. They said he would save them all, one day.
He believed them.
Silver could squash Iblis’ fires and flames thanks to his psychokinesis. He could lift objects, and throw them at whatever creatures Iblis spawned. He could lift up debris where people got trapped in. They looked at him with awe-struck expressions, and he thought maybe this was what hope looked like. Admiration, relief to have a saviour. Silver couldn’t reciprocate such feelings. He couldn’t stop thinking about what that hope meant.
Once Iblis was defeated, what would happen next? Could they survive in a new world that didn’t have fiery pits? Was the earth too scorched to plant and feed entire populations?
He kept those thoughts to himself.
Hope always wavered. It never stayed for long. It never had time to overstay its welcome, and never was greeted properly. Silver thought he knew what hope looked like. He knew despair much more intimately.
—
He travelled to the heart of Crisis City — where Iblis’ flames grew chaotic and dangerous — with one of his many mentors. It had been so long that his name blurred with the many memories Silver had of him. His mentor always cautioned him to gauge his surroundings before using his psychokinesis. To assess the situation fully in order to act accordingly.
This time, when they visited Crisis City, their surroundings kept bombarding them.
No matter how hard Silver tried to snuff them out, the flames burst out of nowhere, licking his cheeks whenever they got close. His mentor could only look as Silver fought off the fires, taking a hold of Iblis’ many forms, and throwing them onto the broken buildings.
He hadn’t been looking. He hadn’t observed his surroundings. He hadn't assess their situation correctly, and the flames and creatures kept bombarding him left and right. Silver heard his mentor's screams. It pierced through his heart, and he frantically turned around to find his mentor.
To his horror, he was dragged away by the flames, into the lava pit. Silver remembered his wide eyes, his piercing shrieks as he tried to swish away the flame wrapped around his ankles. He remembered being swarmed by Iblis' creatures, pushing them aside and slamming them against fractured buildings.
Silver witnessed his mentor being hauled into the lava, high-pitched screams forever resonating in his ears. He tried using his psychokinesis to pull him out of there, but flames blocked his vision and threatened to burn him if he didn’t snuff them out. In the end, his mentor burned alive as Silver fought desperately for his own survival.
He ran away from Crisis City, crying and growing frustrated whenever his tears dried up due to the heat. His mentor’s shrieks and flashes of him being dragged away fogged his mind, and he only managed to reach the outskirts of the city before collapsing. A building crushed his body, limbs so heavy he couldn’t crawl away.
What was the point of surviving if he couldn’t bring hope to others? What hope was there when he couldn’t save one person?
The doubt crept all over his body, eating him up inside. When he closed his eyes, the back of his eyelids replayed his mentor being dragged into the lava. When he got up and walked away from the city, the screams and cries of the people in the city merged with the screams of his mentor, burned alive.
Silver had never met hope, he slowly realized. Despair was the only thing he saw in everyone’s face. From humans to anthropomorphic animals, it was all the same. Eyes wide with terror, limbs trembling, some collapsed on the ground and let Iblis’ forms devour them, others tried to outrun them. Silver helped those on the outskirts of the city run away, where a ragtag group had a campground for those who sought refuge.
He never went there. He didn’t deserve to seek refuge. His usefulness only served to temporarily protect those in need, and nothing else. He couldn’t snuff out Iblis’ flames, he couldn’t kill Iblis’ forms. It was no use trying to save everyone when the world fell apart around them.
—
Silver floated on the outskirts of Crisis City with his psychokinesis. He patrolled where screams echoed in his ears. It usually meant someone needed a human shield to get to the refuge safely. If he couldn’t save them from the licks of flames or from lava creatures, he could sacrifice himself. He would finally pay for his carelessness when his mentor died.
As he turned the corner, Silver was greeted with an unusual sight. Humans were screaming, mother and child holding each other tight, surrounded by debris of broken buildings. That wasn't the unusual part. There were no creatures close to them. Normally, Iblis' forms would swarmed humans, cornering them. This time, a purple anthropomorphic cat defended them, keeping Iblis' creatures away from mother and child.
She looked regal, with her high-heeled shoes and dress that separated in two, taking her long tail into consideration. What stuck out to him, though, was the flames coming out of her hands, burning up Iblis' forms, and blocking the flames from reaching the humans.
Silver assessed the situation first before jumping into action. The mother and her child were safely tuck into a corner, away from the creatures. The purple cat had all of their attention, so Silver approached the small family, and guided them away from the battle. He made sure they knew the way to the refuge before joining the regal cat in battle.
When he arrived, he observed the fight. The purple cat was surrounded by those creatures, furtively looking around. Silver decided to snuff out the flames that surrounded them. Just as he was about to step in, she engulfed herself in flames, raising up like a flame of tornado, burning Iblis' forms closest to her. She then back-flipped away from the attacking creatures, and hit the remaining creatures with a wave of flames that struck their hearts. They crumbled at her feet, back into the lava.
Something moved in the corner of Silver's eye. He snapped his head, and his breath got caught up in his throat when a giant tornado of flames roared, gaining speed. He twisted around to warn the cat, only to see her push flames onto a building. The glass popped, heat too extreme for it. She tumbled away from the broken shards, getting closer to the raging tornado.
Silver reached out to her, “Watch out!”
He ran, floated to the tornado’s midsection, and let out a battle cry as he used his psychokinesis to stop it in its tracks. He pulled the tornado apart, grunting and crying at the physical prowess it took from him. Slowly, the flames dispersed as Silver blocked the oxygen needed to keep it alive.
Suddenly, a wall of fire emerged in front of him, blocking the tornado in its path, and got swallowed in one swoop. Silver gawked as the tornado died against the pavement, snuffing it out for good. He descended, softly landing on his feet, eyes unable to tear away from where the tornado had disappeared.
The purple cat stood beside him, a hand on her hip. Silver spared a look at her, something in his gut twisting at the fact that she took control over something he had managed to defeat on his own.
It made him wonder if his powers were half as great as hers.
Her gaze remained steady, completely unbothered by the look he sent her. She focused on the same spot that he had been looking at.
“This is new,” she noted.
Silver nodded, ignoring the twist in his stomach, “Iblis never took this form before.”
“Iblis?”
That made him pause, eyebrow raised in question as he faced her.
“The flame monster that destroyed this world? You know, famously known for all of this lava.”
He gestured at their surroundings. The cat frowned, gaze on the floor, and rested her chin between her thumb and index.
“Maybe that's why the Sol Emeralds called me to this dimension.”
Silver’s eyes widened. “Excuse me, dimension? Did you just say dimension?”
The cat looked back at him. “Hm? Oh, right.” She placed one arm in front of her stomach and one behind her back, bowing. “I am Blaze the Cat, princess of the Sol Dimension and protector of the Sol Emeralds.”
Silver opened and closed his mouth. Despair made you skeptical, a strong gut feeling that veered you away from what anyone said. Unable to trust someone to their word, lacking sources to know if someone would keep their promise. Despair steered you alone. Despair only made you trust your physical capabilities.
Despair twisted in his gut as he took in the information. Blaze’s gaze stayed on him.
“My name’s Silver,” he held out his hand. “I don’t come from another dimension or anything.”
Blaze nodded, not taking his hand. He lowered it, letting out a nervous chuckle. He couldn't tell if her refusal to take his hand was because she knew he was worthless or because she felt superior to him since she was a princess. Either way, he never knew why Blaze decided to accompany him in his scouting.
Silver didn't fully trust Blaze, at first. A princess from another dimension, with an affinity for flames? A princess that seemed to save everyone from Iblis' forms, better than he ever could, a saviour to their dire situation? Despair wanted to question her motives while hope wanted to cling onto her, the light at the end of the tunnel.
Too good to be true.
After the tornado incident, they went looking for any flames or humans that were still in the city instead of being at the refuge. While Silver guided her throughout the city, Blaze took care of the creatures still roaming around. He wanted her to stay by his side and he wanted to scream at her that he wasn't worth her time.
He was no saviour of hope. Not like her.
Still, she stayed with him. Scouting missions after scouting missions, he guided her through the city as she took out Iblis' forms. Blaze didn't dare to leave him, and it irritated him, somehow.
When would she understand he was nothing? When would she detect he couldn't save people?
Guilt twisted his guts as he snuffed out flames that dared to lick Blaze. She would always send him a grateful smile before flinging creatures against the battered walls of the buildings. Every time she sent him that smile, his cheeks warmed up, and the guilt tore his insides out.
She was regal, graceful. She seemed too perfect to be true. His gut twisted every time she fought Iblis' creatures, that concentrated frown on her face as flames rushed out of her hands. He wondered if that was what hope looked like. Dazzling, bright, beautiful in ways Silver couldn't compare. How can you compare something you've never seen?
Despair twisted hope. Despair loomed over hope, darkening it, leaving it in the dirt. He would only snuff her out, kill her flames like water putting out a fire. A fire needed oxygen, needed combustible to last. He couldn't be that for her, no matter what.
Silver had suggested her many times that they split up to cover more ground. Blaze would out right refuse.
"I will not leave you to fend for yourself," she said.
Silver clenched his fists. He wanted to lash out, to tell her he had survived this far on his own. He was no saviour, not like her. Splitting up would play on both of their strengths, and the less she knew about his abilities, the better it was for both of them.
He didn't want her to figure out that even with his incredible abilities, he failed to save people from their demise.
"It's the only way —"
"No. Teammates do not leave each other. They work together."
Silver faltered at her words. She had that determined frown, standing tall, graceful like a princess, looking down at him. The bubbling lava behind them created a halo around her.
Silver had nothing to compare her beauty. It did things to his stomach, and he promptly ignored them.
"We'll be able to cover more ground if we —"
"I refuse. We go together, or we do not go."
Blaze had always been stubborn. Never to this point, where they clashed. They managed to find a formation that worked for them. Silver navigated them through the city while she killed Iblis' forms with her fire. He supported the beam of hope, the saviour of their desolate land. It was unusual for them to disagree wholeheartedly on a subject matter.
Silver didn't have time to convince Blaze. A loud roar shook the buildings, and they both looked at each other. Blaze unsure, Silver nervous. They ran to the sound, Silver's heart beating so fast, he was afraid it would tear open his chest. It rang in his ears, a frantic rhythm against his rib cage.
When they reached the source of the noise, Silver held his breath, eyes wide, limbs trembling. It was a serpentine form, much larger than what they previously fought. Blaze readied herself for combat, but Silver couldn't move a muscle.
Flames grabbing his mentor's ankle flashed in front of his eyes. If he couldn't fend off flames, what hope did he have against a serpent made of lava? The thing roared and flopped right between them. Blaze moved out of the way while Silver rolled on the other side.
Despair made you run. Despair locked your legs in place, waiting for the final blow. As Silver dug his fingers in the ground, Blaze was already on her feet, blasting the serpent with her fire. Her body moved precisely, flames flaring at her sides while the serpent spout out fireballs. She dodged it, no scorch mark on her fur or clothes.
She looked beautiful.
Was Silver worth her time? Why did she chose him over and over again? He wanted to spend time with her, to know her more than the princess from another dimension. He wanted to appreciate that smile she kept sending him.
A halo formed around her as she cried out, shooting fire to the serpent. The creature only roared, and flopped right at her. Silver had to do something. Fighting fire with fire didn't seem to work against that creature. He went on one knee and reached out to the thing, using all of his energy to freeze it.
"Argh!" he cried out, "don't hurt her!"
Blaze snapped her head to his direction, eyes wide and mouth gaped. Silver managed to freeze the serpent. He grunted as he stood up, holding on to his psychokinesis. When he was steady on his two feet, he swung the serpent to the other side, colliding it with a battered building. The building exploded at the contact, and the creature cried out.
Blaze ran to Silver's side, reaching to place her hand on his shoulder, but hesitated when he placed his hands on his knees, panting.
"Are you alright?"
Silver let out a huff of disbelief, close to a laugh, "I've never stopped something that huge."
Blaze looked at the serpent as it excavated itself from the debris. She reached out her hand for him to take. He glanced at her, and took her hand.
"It's not over."
Silver jerked in fear when the serpent roared, and he slowly turned his head to see the creature coming back towards them.
Blaze squeezed his hand, turning his attention to her. She had that concentrated frown. He wanted to kiss it away, to reassure her they would be fine. Instead, Silver looked around, noticing the torn-apart buildings. It would be easy for Blaze to trigger a large collision with her fire, making them break easily. Then, Silver could use them as weapons. He glanced at the lava surrounding the serpent, and how the head of the serpent seemed more soft than anywhere else.
Despair made you run. Blaze made him stay.
"Together?"
Silver couldn't stop the smile forming on his face. "Yeah. Together."
For the first time since Silver met Blaze, they managed to combine their powers to defeat the serpent. It took them many tries to realize Blaze's fire did nothing against the serpent. Instead, she would break buildings close to them, bringing debris to Silver, just as he predicted. He used those debris to throw them at the serpent's weak spot, right on the soft spot he had seen earlier.
When it would throw a fireball at them, Silver would stop it, and Blaze would throw it right back with her flames. The creature stood no chance against them. Silver couldn't believe his eyes when the serpent crumbled at their attacks, crying it out as the lava absorbed it back.
He turned to Blaze, a smile on his face.
"You did it!"
Blaze shook her head, "We did it." She hummed in thought. "I would've exhausted myself if you hadn't helped me in this battle. Teamwork is truly marvellous. Your power is quite remarkable and has various utilities compared to mine."
That made Silver pause. He rubbed the back of his head.
"Well, without your power, I don't know how I would have hit it."
She approached him, and Silver's gut swelled at her smile.
"That's why I need you, Silver. We need each other if we want to survive."
Silver wanted to give her a hug. Wanted to go down on his knees and beg for her forgiveness. He wanted her flames to swallow him whole. Blaze looked at him, and Silver didn't know what to do with the attention.
So, he nodded, "Right."
—
It wasn't the last time those giant serpent-like creatures appeared. Every time they spotted one or cries would bring them close to one, it was harder to defeat them. They were giant beasts, mocking their attempts at destroying them.
It took more out of them to kill them. Every day was a testament to their teamwork, a slimmer of hope that refused to snuff out despite their situation. People kept cheering them on, acclaiming them as saviours that would defeat Iblis.
Silver's chest constricted around his lungs every time he heard that. This time, Blaze placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, and smiled. He was ever so grateful to be blessed by her presence. He might have thought about hugging her more than twice, and to keep her at his side until the world declared they were unfit to stay alive. In the end, he was satisfied with what they had.
A friend willing to protect the other, no matter what.
It was why, when Silver and Blaze panted as the serpent they defeated went back in the lava, frustration bubbled inside him. He hit his fist against a turned-up structure of the road.
"It's no use!" he cried out, tears drying at the corner of his eyes.
Blaze remained silent, looking at where the creature previously stood. The coals of hope burned in his stomach, it was only a question of when they would stop giving warmth.
"They keep coming back!" Silver laughed, a laugh as empty as the desolate land they were in. "I doubt we'll have enough energy to defeat them all. We need to find a way to permanently seal Iblis away."
Blaze hummed, "I wish the Sol Emeralds worked in this dimension."
Silver glanced at her. Her arms were crossed and her head hanged low, in thought. Hope lit up at the mention of those mystical Sol Emeralds, but despair was quick enough to snuff it out.
She snapped her head at him. "What do you know of the Chaos Emeralds?"
Silver furrowed his eyebrows. Before he could even speak, a chill ran down his spine and a voice echoed in his ears.
"Humans crushed them in desperation."
Blaze and Silver turned their heads to the sound. There stood an anthropomorphic hedgehog, fur as black as soot and ashes. Blaze frowned, hands in fists.
"You can't crush Chaos Emeralds," retorted Blaze.
The hedgehog tilted his head. A shiver crossed Silver's spine, those green eyes starring right at him.
"I've seen them do it. For such powerful jewels, they are quite the delicate thing."
Blaze let out a low growl. Silver stepped in front of her. He had never seen her so hostile towards someone that wasn't from Iblis.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
The hedgehog stood still on the metal scaffolding.
"My name is Mephiles, and I want what you want."
Blaze and Silver glanced at each other before locking their gazes at Mephiles.
"And what is that, exactly?" Silver demanded.
"You want Iblis out of this world," Mephiles drawled, as if it was trivial knowledge. "I know a way to do so."
If Silver learned anything about hope, it was how uncertain it could be. The taunts, wiggling right under his nose. Despair twisted his guts, cried at him to ignore the stranger. Hope reminded him of the trust he gave to Blaze.
Mephiles could be the key to destroy Iblis.
"How?" he asked.
Something flashed in the hedgehog's eye, and he extended his arms.
"Let me show you."
A black orb surrounded them suddenly. It entered Silver's lungs and suffocated him. He closed his eyes and coughed out the smoke in his chest. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a place he had never been to before. A large screen adorned the wall in front of him.
He looked around, and rushed to Blaze's side when she was on her knees, coughing.
"Blaze…"
She took his hand, and he helped her up. She groaned, placing a hand against her temple.
"Silver, I don't trust him."
"Huh?"
Blaze was about to speak again when her gaze landed on the screen in front of them. She squinted at it, and gasped.
"That's…"
"Doctor Eggman's base, yes."
Their eyes snapped to Mephiles, who was close to the screen, observing them. Blaze still had that frown on her face. Silver's gut twisted. If Blaze was their saviour, Mephiles must be their beacon of hope. Nobody offered a solution to get rid of Iblis. Hope gutted him, reaching out to the one person who might have found a way to restore their land.
The hedgehog signalled Silver to come closer. Blaze's hand wrapped around his wrist, making him turn.
"Silver…"
Mephiles quirked an eyebrow, "I'm not going to hurt him, Blaze the Cat."
That caught both of their attention.
"How do you know her name?"
"I know many things, Silver. Things that have past, things that are, and…" he paused, eyes starring straight at Silver's, "things that have yet to come."
Mephiles extended his hand. Silver looked back at Blaze, whose frown hadn't lessened. Hope dangled in front of his eyes. If Silver could trust Blaze, a princess from another dimension, than he could trust an all-knowing being. The all-knowing being that could get them out of this hellscape.
Silver sent her a reassuring smile.
"We — I don't have a choice."
That was how he could prove his worth. Prove to her that he was worth her time. Redeem himself for when his mentor got killed due to his carelessness. Blaze could kill Iblis' creatures. Mephiles had a solution. Silver could bring them together, and bring everyone hope.
Hope was finicky. Hope never lasted. He wanted it to last. To stay with them forever.
If this was what hope tasted like, Silver preferred it over despair.
He joined Mephiles to the screen, where things appeared suddenly. Silver took a step back, unsure how these things operated. Mephiles pulled out an image. In it, there were words saying "Death of the Beloved Princess", with a picture of a human Silver didn't recognize.
"Iblis was concealed within the Princess of Soleanna. When she died at the hand of the Iblis Trigger, it released him, turning the world into the one we now know."
Mephiles pulled out a glowing purple gem, handing it to Silver.
"Touch this, and you'll know who the Iblis Trigger is."
"That's a Chaos Emerald!" Blaze accused.
Silver's hand hovered over the gem when she yelled out her accusation. He turned to look at her. The solution was this close. He could finally pay for his worthlessness, for his mistakes. A solution that didn't involve working himself and Blaze to the bone, defeating Iblis' never-ending forms.
He could finally bring hope, like he was meant to.
Before he could listen to Blaze argue, he touch the Emerald.
Flames surrounded him, hot, and yet, not singeing his fur. He looked around him, until he spotted something blue. He ran towards it, and skidded to a stop when the blue thing took shape. It was a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog. Flames engulfed him, making it hard to see his exact features.
"Who are you?" Silver yelled out.
The blue hedgehog did not answer him. He didn't even look at him. Silver tried to approach him, but the flames grew taller, hotter.
Silver growled, "Are you the Iblis Trigger?!"
Just like that, he was transported back to the room. Blaze had her arms crossed, glaring at Mephiles while the black hedgehog only looked at him.
"It's a blue hedgehog, isn't it?" Silver asked. "He's the Iblis Trigger."
Blaze's eyes widened slightly. "Blue hedgehog?"
Mephiles, meanwhile, nodded, "He must be destroyed in the past, before the Princess of Soleanna unleashed Iblis."
Silver frowned, "How do we go back to the past?"
"Wait, Silver —!"
Mephiles had already appeared the black orb that penetrated inside their lungs before Blaze could finish her thought. Silver could feel the brush of her hand against his shoulder, only to immediately disappear as he landed on soft ground.
Silver grunted in pain as he rolled to cushion his fall. He slowly stood up, looking around him to situate himself. Except, he didn't recognize the place. He was surrounded by lush green grass and trees. There were ruins covered by something green he couldn't place in his mind, and there was a comfortable warmth that brushed against his fur.
Even when he looked around, it seemed he was alone in here. He clenched his fists, guts twisting at the thought of Blaze being in danger. When Mephiles had said they would go to the past, he'd hoped the black hedgehog would've guide them to the Iblis Trigger. At this instance, he hoped Blaze was alright.
She knew how to defend herself better than he could. Still, a feeling similar to despair swirled his insides. He frowned and shook his head.
"No time to waste," he muttered to himself, looking ahead.
Silver couldn't help but gaped in awe at the sight as he traversed the various ruins and obstacles. If that was how the past looked like, if that was what everyone thought of when Iblis would no longer be in this world, then he understood why he needed to bring it back. If sunsets were this bright, if the land was this prosper, he would do anything to let the people of his time experience this beauty.
As he marvelled at the colourful plants at the edge of some of the ruins, he realized there was now something he could compare Blaze's beauty with.
An orange sunset, just like the one he was currently witnessing, illuminating the purple plant at his feet. Natural, graceful, a ray of hope for the future. That was Blaze to him, in his heart.
—
On the outskirts of the forest was a sea, turning dark with the sun slowly disappearing. Every view Silver saw gobsmacked him. Something lit up inside him, and he desperately clung onto it. It was a spark he had only felt around Blaze, and while he missed her a lot, the mission he had to do was more important.
He spotted the silhouette of an island further ahead. Silver floated himself to the island, wondering if he would find the Iblis Trigger there. Silver gasped at the sight of buildings. They were intact, not broken or battered down like in Crisis City. There was a nice ocean breeze that ruffled his fur as he saw clean streets, with people talking and laughing instead of screaming and crying.
He hid on the roofs, trying to spot the Iblis Trigger in the crowd. Silver landed on a terrace-like roof, and something blue passed by in the corner of his eye. He snapped his head to its direction, and gasped when he saw that same blue hedgehog Mephiles showed him. The Iblis Trigger was right underneath him, unaware of his presence.
This could be his chance. Kill the Iblis Trigger right then and there, and save his world.
Before he could even activate his psychokinesis, something bumped into him, squealing and hugging him. It broke his concentration, and he tried to shove away whatever had latched onto him.
"Hey!"
"Oh Sonic! I knew I would find you here."
Silver blinked, and his cheeks grew warm when he realized a pink hedgehog had her arms wrapped around him, nuzzling his chest. Tingles traversed his body where she was touching him.
"You got the wrong guy," Silver tried to detach her arms from him, "please, let me go."
"Huh?"
The pink hedgehog raised her head, gasped, and jumped back. She hid her face in her hands, quills swaying with the breeze, red dress following the motion.
"I'm so sorry! I mistook you for someone else!"
Silver glanced at where the Iblis Trigger was, and huffed, annoyed when the blue hedgehog was no longer there.
"It's alright," he muttered.
He sighed. He shouldn't have let his guard down, and should have immediately attack the Iblis Trigger instead of dilly dallying. What would Mephiles think of him? What if he realized Silver was unfit for the job?
That made him paused, fists clenched so hard, he was sure his claws would've dented his hands if it weren't for his gloves. Silver needed to kill the Iblis Trigger. He needed to bring back the lush green of trees to his world, he needed that spark of hope Mephiles had handed to him freely. He couldn't disappoint the one who gave him hope.
He didn't want to disappoint Blaze.
"Uh… Are you alright? Hello?"
A white gloved hand passed in front of his eyes, jerking him out of his stupor. He turned to face the pink hedgehog, who had a frown on her face.
"I thought I lost you for a second."
Silver shook his head, "No, I was just thinking."
The pink hedgehog hummed, quirking a brow, "Must have been some pretty deep thinking. And here I thought only Tails could get in deep."
Silver blinked at the mention of an unfamiliar name, but brushed it off.
"I was looking for someone before you came."
The pink hedgehog gasped, "I was looking for someone too! Man, that's a huge coincidence. Maybe we could help each other out."
Silver blinked at her. "Help each other out?"
"Yeah! I help you find who you're looking for, and you'll help me find who I'm looking for." She did an one-over look at him before nodding. "You seem pretty lost to me."
Silver chuckled nervously, "Is it that obvious?"
She grinned, "Yeah, but never fear, for Amy Rose is here to guide you! Are they in the city, by chance?"
Silver nodded, and she clasped her hands together, jumping in excitement.
"Oh, this is gonna be so much fun! I think Sonic is in the city too, so, that'll save us so much unnecessary travel. I've read so many travel guidebooks about Soleanna, I think they'll come in pretty handy for this adventure."
At this point, Amy, the pink hedgehog, had lost him about halfway of her speech. She must've noticed, because she stopped talking and extended her hand.
"Where are my manners? I'm Amy, Amy Rose, and you?"
Silver hesitantly shook it, grimacing at the strength of her grip compared to his.
"I'm Silver."
Amy smiled, placing another hand on top of his.
"Well, Silver, I guess this makes us a team until we find who you're looking for!"
When Amy said that, Silver's gut twisted, thoughts on Blaze. He missed her a lot.
