We Finish Eachother's Sandwiches

Summary:

Radovid bit into the sandwich, the taste of what he could only describe as utter disappear, filling his mouth.

Notes:

So I was scrolling through the Jaskier tag on tumblr as one does and came across the post that had him confessing about making hate sandwiches for his husband, I'm honestly too brain fucked to even know if I'm explaining it in a way that makes sense lol. And the title...well, it was the only sandwich related song lyrics I could think of!
Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Radovid bit into the sandwich, the taste of what he could only describe as utter disappear, filling his mouth. He didn’t know how exactly, but whenever Jaskier was upset and had made his sandwiches he could taste the difference.

“How’s your sandwich?” The other man pouted at him from across the dining room table. Radovid took a swing of the glass of milk. His excuse would be to wash down the peanut butter that stuck to the roof of his mouth but the truth was that it was to wash the taste of sadness away.

It tastes….different.”

“That’s because I made it with hate .” Jaskier crossed his arms and looked anywhere but at his husband.

Radovid quickly finished the hate-made sandwich, pressing a gentle kiss to his husband’s hair.

I love you, dove. ” He murmured into the brown strands before leaving.

The next morning Radovid wearily eyed the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that was at the table. It’s lightly toasted bread, glistening jam and smooth peanut butter taunted him .

He and Jaskier had made up the night before, in the absolute best of ways , so he assumed he was forgiven….

So why was he so scared of a simple sandwich?

“Don’t you worry dear heart, I made it with extra love today.” Jaskier said, gently kissing him before sitting on his other side with his own breakfast.

Radovid tentatively picked up the sandwich, the jam sticking to his fingers.

He took a bite….

The sweet taste exploded over his taste buds, an almost too obscene moan escaping him. He savored every bite, tasting the absolute love that it was made with.

He finished the sandwich, almost positive that there were cartoon hearts floating all around his head.

“I love you, dove.” He kissed his husband goodbye like he did every morning before leaving.

Jaskier quietly hummed to himself as he pulled out the ingredients he needed for Radovid’s morning peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Two slices of homemade bread went into the toaster until they were golden brown. After that one was covered in smooth and creamy peanut butter, the other in the best grape jelly on the market.

“Corvo Bianco Jelly, best jelly on the continent!” The label proudly boasted.

Jaskier put the jelly back in the fridge, just as the shower stopped running. Right on the shelf on the door, far far away from the organic sugar-free grape jam that he got from the local farmers market.

So it was an itty bitty , tiny white lie that he told Radovid.

He had originally bought the organic grape jam to combat his husband’s sweet tooth, but never got around to using it before their first petty squabble. So, now every time they fight he uses it on his morning sandwich.

Never in his life did he think he’d be able to convince his husband that he can make his food taste different based on how upset he was.

Even if it’s not entirely true.

Radovid sure seems to think it is.

I hope you enjoyed my tiny moment of insanity! Till next time!
