Work Text:
“Why don’t you make yourself a drink while I get more comfortable,” the Gourou said, stepping out of her heels and straight into the bathroom. She took off her red wig and removed the pins sticking her curls close to her skull, sighing in satisfaction as her hair was finally released. All those months of ‘professional’ hairdos meant for the cameras had been a nightmare for her scalp.
In the bedroom, clinking indicated ice being dropped into a tumbler, and liquid being poured from the cristal decanter on the sideboard. “On the rocks for me,” she called, even though he should have known by now.
She took off her suit – so heavy with all those crystals – adjusted her cleavage, and slipped into the silk bathrobe hanging on the back of the door.
She knew how much her lover appreciated the finer things, and tonight was going to be a night to remember. It was the culmination of all of their hard work, all of their scheming and dissembling finally coming to fruition. No longer would they have to pretend to be on opposite sides.
After so much minutious planning and excruciating patience, it had been a huge risk for her to show up at Naziland. She could have been recognized by any number of people, but she knew the people of Monopolis tended not to look too closely beyond first appearances. Zéro’s little plot could never have worked, otherwise.
She couldn’t have lived with not being there, watching her lover’s master plan unfold. What a stroke of genius this little electoral masquerade had been. Guaranteed to yield the right result, no matter what, and now they would govern together, just like they had planned on all those years ago.
“You know I hate waiting,” Zéro called, and she smiled to herself at the impatience in his voice. “I’m way overdue for my winner’s kiss. That bitch wouldn’t even look at me by the end.”
“Just a little longer, darling,” she replied as she checked her makeup in the mirror. She glanced at the time display as she touched up her lipstick. A few more seconds, perhaps?
Finally, a crash sounded from the room, followed by a low moan, and then a grunt.
There.
She tiptoed closer, staying out of range just in case, but it was done.
Swiftly, she got the bag out of the closet, just where the guard had said it would be, and pulled on the gloves. She pried the half-empty tumbler from Zéro’s clawed hand, stepping deftly over his body to empty the remaining liquid back into the tumbler, before placing both items in the opaque plastic pouch. The gloves went in too. She was just sealing it shut as a knock came at the door.
“Sorry, darling,” she told Zéro as she stepped over his grimacing face once more. “It actually was personal.”
The agent stood in the doorway, imposing as always. Perhaps now they were done he would actually tell her his name, but somehow she doubted it.
“All clear?” he asked, and she stepped aside to let him check for himself.
She held the door open, nodding at her lover to come in too.
They looked at each other in silence while the agent finished bagging up the evidence and wrapped the body in a bag, muttering something into his wrist.
“I’ll be out of your hair in a second, ladies,” he said with a wry smile. Actually, she didn’t think she would ever see him again. Rumor had it this was his last stint before early retirement, and she applauded his sense of timing. You probably couldn’t go out on a higher high than this.
“Don’t worry, we have time,” Sadia drawled, a slow smile spreading over her lovely face. “We’ve won, didn’t we? We call all the shots now.”

The end!
