Work Text:

The girl saw her lunch on the floor and almost iimmediately her eyes began to crystallize and very soon the tears fell.

Her lunch...

After a few hours, the pain of her crushed lunch subsided, but the hunger became more pronounced.

The growls of her stomach became louder and more persistent.

Until she saw in front of her how Damian showed her a sandwich.

"Huh?"

She stared at the food, swallowed.

"What are you waiting for, take it?" he said, shaking it.

"Why you...?"

"Come on, eat it," he demanded. "The sound of your stomach is bothering me."

The girl looked at him with shining eyes as if he were her savior, and that only made him uncomfortable and impatient.

"Why doesn't she take it?" "Will she dare to reject me?" "Why do I care...?"

"Are you worrying about me?" Anya murmured, reading his thoughts.

Damian's eyes dilated as a sudden heat settled in his cheeks, neck and ears, being discovered.

"Stupid! Let it be clear that I'm not worried about you, I was just going to throw it in the trash and your stomach noise distracted me, so take it!"

"It's charity!" "It's just out of charity!"

And he gave it to her, without waiting for the girl to take it on her own. In the meantime, Anya's fingers brushed against Damian's, who flinched at the touch.

The boy, who had averted his gaze out of shame, focused them again on the girl who was voraciously devouring the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Staring intently at her flushed cheeks, savoring the delicious taste greedily, and closing her eyes with almost invisible tears after having found food for her hungry and needy stomach, she could still glimpse a smile on her lips full of crumbs and peanut butter.

Consequently, Damian felt a pain in his chest, and overwhelmed, he left there, very sure that this pain was because the plebeian was an ungrateful woman, not dedicating words of gratitude to him, in fact, she didn't even look at him while devouring the sandwich.

"The plebeian has no manners," he muttered resentfully, with his heart pounding a thousand beats per minute while his mind relived the image of seeing her eat so happily thanks to him.
