Work Text:

There was a lot that could be said about the choices that Slade made when he drank and the fact that it led to his arrest. He never meant to hit the bitch that hard, but she wouldn't leave him alone. He was the victim as far as he was concerned, but that didn't help his case as far as the officers were concerned. He was allowed one phone call, and he decided to use it on Alex instead of his boss, as he did not want it to come out that he had struck a civilian. He could hear how mad Alex was when he told him what had happened over the phone, but he still came for him to bail him out. Slade knew there would be a lecture about how he should have been home, but it was better than incarceration. He could handle a lecture about his actions.

“You should have been home with me. I don't even know what you were doing out there this late.” Alex lectured as the two of them walked home, not bothering to hide how upset he was. “I hope you have a backup plan for next time because I won't bail you out again.”

“She tried to touch me without consent. It was self-defense.” Slade responded as he tried to defend himself, not missing the look the other man carried over this statement. “Alex, come on.. I wasn't interested in her or anyone else. I came there for a beer and to have some fun.”

There was a lot that could be said about the complex nature of the relationship between Alex and Slade, but it was clear that the idea that someone tried to touch Slade upset Alex a lot. Slade had moved in with Alex a month before this incident because he felt safe there. He didn't want to ruin that because he wanted to have a bit of fun. He needed Alex to know that he was serious when it came to him. He needed him to know he had tried.

“I appreciate you coming to help me.” Slade noted after a few moments, not missing how the other man wouldn't even look at him. “I promise I will make this up to you.”

“Yeah, is that like last time you claimed you'd make something up to me?” Alex asked in a harsher tone than what was necessary, shaking his head in dismissal before he spoke again. “I'm tired.. I want some sleep.”

It hurt Slade to hear Alex dismiss his efforts as though they meant nothing to him. It was because of this dismissal that he cornered Alex the moment the two of them made it home. He was serious this time, and he didn't hesitate to show that. He would do whatever it took to clear up his mistake.

“Slade, I'm tired. I worked for two days straight and then had to bail your ass out of jail.” Alex remarked with a clear sense of annoyance in his tone, doing his best to push the other man away from him. “Move, or you'll wish I left your ass in there.”

“I want to make this up to you.” Slade responded as he tried to make another effort, taking the other man's hands into his own. “Alex, come on—”

“You want to make this up to me?” Alex asked in complete disbelief as he snapped, not bothering to hold back in his rant. “Take me on a real date then. Admit that you love me. Hell, make this official between us. I deserve that at least. I deserve more than that.”

It was clear to Slade that Alex wanted more from him, so he let him have it, made their relationship official, and took him on a real date, but he knew he also deserved more. It should have been considered shameful how fast Slade obtained a prison uniform and how he let himself be taken by Alex in it, but he did promise to make this up to him. He would never resist arrest when it came to Officer Alex. He was in for a life sentence and then some.
