Work Text:
I forbid ye, maidens all
Who let fly your lovely hair
To go down below the world
To Limbo, grey and bare
There’s none that goes there leaves again
You never truly can
Or so said Olm to Avid,
you silly monkey man.
Marmalade, she did not heed him
Marmalade, she fell,
And then she jumped, as fast she could
Down beneath the world.
The void, it loved her, and the sky
And led her to the door,
The door, behind which Limbo lies.
And Marmalade, she opened it, and then she went inside.
She had not pulled one wither rose
A rose but only one
‘Fore Avid came, all strange and dark
Said, “Lady, leave alone.”
Marmalade she did not listen
She pulled another rose
Said, “I’m going to get thee out of here,”
And Avid froze.
“The Nameless King, he caught me.”
“Olm’s his name,” said she,
“And I’ll come and go now as I please,
Without the leave of he.”
“No one truly leaves Limbo,
Not thou nor I,” said he,
Said Avid, “but I’ll try.”
And Marmalade, she smiled at him, and said, “Then so shall I.”
They two plucked the wither roses
Traded them along,
Left behind them trails of torches,
Flickering and long.
Gloomy, gloomy was the night
And eerie was the way
As Marm and Avid traveled on
Their search continuing.
At last, at long, long, last they found
The Overworld Orb
And took it to the sacred place
And opened up a door
The Nameless King he screamed and yelled
But Marmalade held strong
As Avid changed all in her arms
Into a monkey, beast, and flame.
And then she pulled him through the door
And a man he became
And then she kissed him, kissed him twice
He was her own true love.
The Overworld opened then
With greens and blues and reds.
And Marm and Avid loved each other
There, safe until the end.
