HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELODY 🥳🥳🥳

Work Text:

The late afternoon sun streamed through the windows of Glinda and Elphaba's shared room, casting a warm glow on a scene of cheerful chaos. Streamers of pink and green crisscrossed the ceiling, catching the light and creating a festive atmosphere. In the center of the room, a small table was set for two, covered with a slightly lopsided pink tablecloth. Two chairs, pulled close together, completed the cozy setup.

Glinda, her usual perfect hair slightly askew, flitted around the room, making last-minute adjustments.

"Are you sure the cake is…presentable?" she asked, her voice a mix of hope and worry.

"It's perfect, Glinda," Shen-Shen assured her, carefully placing the cake on the table. It was indeed a little uneven, with frosting that swirled in unpredictable patterns. The letters, spelled out in green frosting, were a bit crooked, but they proudly declared: "Happy Birthday Elphie!"

"It's…certainly pink," Glinda said, eyeing the cake with a mix of pride and amusement. "But the green letters are a nice touch, right?"

"They're perfect,” Pfannee chuckled. “I'm sure she'll love it."

"I really hope so," Glinda sighed, smoothing down her pink dress. She was starting to feel nervous about the idea but there was no going back now. "I just… I wanted to do something special for her. She's never had a proper birthday celebration, you know."

A few minutes later, the door creaked open, and Elphaba stepped inside. Her eyes widened, taking in the explosion of pink and green, the table set for two, and the slightly wonky cake. A stunned silence filled the room.

"Surprise!" Glinda, Shen-Shen, and Pfannee shouted in unison, the blonde jumping slightly on her tiptoes and clapping her hands.

Elphaba stood frozen for a moment, her usual guarded expression softening into something close to wonder.

"What…what is all this?" she finally whispered.

Glinda stepped forward, a nervous but excited smile on her face.

"Happy birthday, Elphie! We... I know you've never really had a birthday party, so I thought… we could have one. Just the two of us."

Elphaba's gaze swept over the decorations, the table, and finally settled on the cake. A small, genuine smile touched her lips.

"You…you did all this?" She asked, the realisation starting hitting in.

Glinda nodded, her cheeks flushing pink.

"With a little help from Shen-Shen and Pfannee.” She exclaimed. “The cake… well, it's handmade. With love. I could have just bought one from the very but it's a special day, so I might as well do it myself. Or at least try," she added, eying the letters, one of the P’s already sliding down the cake. Well, so much for it being perfect.

Elphaba walked slowly towards the table, her green eyes shining. She reached out a tentative hand and gently touched one of the green letters on the cake.

"It's…it's beautiful, Glinda. Thank you.” She turned to Glinda, her smile widening. "This is… the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."

Glinda's heart soared. She stepped closer, her hand reaching out to cup Elphaba's cheek.

"You deserve it, Elphie.” She replied. “You deserve all the happiness in the world."

Elphaba leaned into the touch, her gaze locking with Glinda's. A soft, unspoken understanding passed between them. It wasn't just about the cake or the decorations; it was about the care, the attention, and the genuine affection that Glinda had poured into this surprise.

"Happy birthday, Elphie," Glinda whispered, her voice full of warmth.

Elphaba’s smile was radiant.

"Thank you, Glinda. For everything." She whispered back.

She pulled Glinda closer, and they leaned in for a gentle kiss. Suddenly there was a whistle.

"Hey you two! Get a room!" Pfannee called out, while Shen-Shen was watching them with gleaming eyes.

Glinda and Elphaba broke apart, blushing a little.

"Or better yet, we'll just give you this one," Shen-Shen added with a soft giggle, causing the pair to blush even more.

With a shared chuckle and a final wave, Shen-Shen and Pfannee slipped out of the room, leaving Glinda and Elphaba to their moment. As the door clicked shut behind Glinda's friends, the pair turned back to each other, their smiles soft and full of unspoken words.
