Work Text:
Two lovers laid side by side as the late hours of the night passed them by, barely perceived, but sure to be remembered.
If you were to take a peek through the window curtains, you'd see nothing but a bundle of blankets.
But underneath the thin sheets laid two bodies in the nude, intertwined to a point of barely no feasible division at all.
If you were to eavesdrop at the lock of their bedroom, you'd hear nothing but the sound of dreary silence.
Yet their minds each sang a melody.
One was of betrayal. It was almost like the gentle drum of fingers on piano keys. The notes were muted, almost in a haze. But they remained. An illusion of a tainted mind, drowned in sorrow and regret.
The other was of love. This one was like no other instrument but the human voice itself. It was quiet, somehow even more tender than the first. But it resonated the most. It was reality.
The veil of heavy silence was ripped open by a hushed noise, the quietest of sobs slipping through the carefully forged mask of one stoic man. Truly a shame for him. A mark of weakness, something he'd deemed the bane of his wretched life, as he was fated to perish over and over, over a purpose that no longer seemed clear.
But the bounds of pride and dignity mattered no more. They've been torn by the claws of a beast. One who cared not for the frail facade of resentment or the trails of tears etched beneath the mask.
Words were unnecessary. Louder spoke the motions born of this feeling that had yet to be recognized for its real name.
The arms of a gentle monster held the broken man as he cried and begged his mind for silence.
It didn't come. It didn't come with the press of lips against his temple, nor with the caress of shaky fingers across his rotten body. It didn't come with the pleasant heat that seemed to battle with his frozen skin for equilibrium. It didn't come with the futile whispers of comfort, or the gentle scratches on his scalp, or the multitude of kisses that just couldn't fail to trace every single piece of crudely stitched up flesh which bore the echo of his untimely death.
The piano got louder.
His tears seeped into the early hours of dawn.
