Chapter Text
Rain. That is what Wriothesley met as he exited the Palais Mermonia.
He paused momentarily before stepping out into the rain. Weren’t the skies clear when he entered the building? Not a cloud in sight. Weird.
Wriothesley shrugged and walked out, deciding to brave the rain, having not bothered to bring an umbrella.
He walked quickly to the elevator, pressing the button to go down to the aquabus station.
A sigh escaped his lips, wondering how the rain suddenly started. He wasn’t in the Palais Mermonia for too long either.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when the ‘ ding ’ of the elevator reached his ears. He walked in, pressing the button ‘3F: Navia Line’.
Wriothesley only waited for a few seconds until the elevator made a ‘ding’ noise once more, indicating the lift had arrived at his floor.
The doors opened and he stepped out, sitting on the covered bench, throwing his leg over his knee, resting his elbow on the arm rest and leaning his chin in his palm, boredly waiting for the aquabus to arrive.
He briefly wondered if it was even running considering the heavy rain, but eventually that doubt was settled as it arrived.
The tall man stood up, boarding the boat. He wiped the water of one of the seats and sat down, despite knowing it wouldn’t make a difference.
As the aquabus rode to Marcotte Station, Wriothesley thought about Neuvilette (something he does often).
Was he possibly the reason it was raining so heavily? Wriothesley sighed, feeling like a bad friend for not going back inside and checking in on him while he was still there.
Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do at this point, so Wriothesley just sighed and hoped everything was ok.
He had zoned out thinking about the dragon, and only realised he was at his destination when the melusine tapped his shoulder and asked him to disembark.
—
By the time Wriothesley had made it back to the Fortress of Meropide, he was soaked to the bone. He just went straight to his office, grabbing a towel out of a drawer.
He sighed and sat down, leaning back on his chair and rubbing his temple.
“Your Grace?” a slightly squeaky voice called out.
Wriothesley dropped his hand and sat up straight, now able to see the melusine, of whom he had grown quite fond of.
“Need anything, Sigewinne?”
“Not really, I had heard you were back from The Court of Fontaine and I wanted to see you! You’re soaked, is Monsieur Neuvilette alright?” she spoke chirpily, making him smile. He really understood what Neuvilette meant when he said that he felt like a parent to her. It was hard not to.
“I’m not too sure, it started raining when I was already on the aquabus,” he lied. he felt like a bad friend for not going to check on Neuvilette after he left the Palais Mermonia, and he didn’t want a telling off from Sigewinne about it either.
—
At the Palais Mermonia, Neuvilette was sat in his chair with his head in his hands. He wasn’t sure what it was about the meeting with Wriothesley that made him so down.
“You’re a good friend , Neuvilette. I’m glad to have you.”
Neuvilette sighed. He hated these feelings he had for Wriothesley. After all, they were just colleagues, friends, right?
Right?
