The first time you said her name too casually, I felt it like a splinter under my ribcage. But I stayed. I told myself you'd come back to me, not just to the house, but to us. I begged the universe to rewind—to the first kiss, to your hoodie around my shoulders, to when I still made you laugh.
You lied so well. You said you weren’t leaving. Then you did, slowly and completely. Like erosion. You kissed me one last time, and it didn’t even sting.
I don’t hate you. That’s the worst part. I wish I did.
Because the truth is, if you'd just asked... if you'd said, "stay"—I would’ve. Despite everything. I would’ve stayed and forgiven and stitched myself up around your wreckage. That's the kind of stupid, endless love I had for you.
