Agatha smiled like a cat stretching out in a sunbeam. “So, answer a few things for me. Just for fun.” Agatha leaned in closer, the tips of their shoes brushing now. “Would you rather lose your sense of taste... or touch?”
Suspicion flickered in Rio’s brow. “Taste,” she said slowly, “easily.”
Agatha didn’t stop. “Have you ever lied to me?”
Rio’s heart kicked against her ribs, almost loud enough to drown out the music. “…Yes,” she whispered.
"Did you feel bad about it?”
The question was gentler. Sadder, somehow. “Yes.”
“Why do you lie then?”
“I…” Rio faltered, blinked. “I don’t know. Fear, maybe.”
“Do you think about kissing me?”
Rio’s breath stuttered.
“It’s okay,” Agatha murmured. “Why don’t you?” Another silence. This one louder. Agatha’s voice dropped to a whisper, low and dark and protective. “That’s okay. You don’t have to answer everything.”
