Work Text:

“Eddie! Eddie, we've got to move!” Hen shouted as they got Buck lifted up onto the gurney. Apparently he looked out of it enough for her to be concerned about his response times, but they were off and running within seconds. They got him loaded up and Eddie piled into the back, Thompson being pushed up front to drive the bus. He could not bring himself to let go of Buck's hand, however, even as Chim pushed him further in. It was an absolute whirlwind of noise and movement and he could not focus past the tight grip he had on his partner's hand and the blurry blue eyes that stayed focused on him until they no longer could, Eddie having been pushed out of his easy range of sight.

He leaned forward after getting the all clear from Hen when she had checked his head and rested their foreheads together. Vaguely, he felt Chim moving around him to get at Buck's arm, but it meant little to him as he focused on his partner. He pressed a kiss to Buck's hairline and a little harder of one to his birthmark. Tears welled, but he forced them back, eyes screwed tightly shut as he struggled to control himself. He sat back slightly, just far enough to see that his partner's eyes had slid closed. A quick glance down towards his chest showed that he was still breathing, so he was not as worried as he could have been.

“Buck,” he said quietly-or at least as quietly as he could and still be heard over the sounds of the ambulance and the paramedics’ movements. “Buck, mi amor, please just look at me.”

It seemed to take a lot of effort, but those gorgeous blues were soon looking up at him. They were blurry from the pain Buck had to be in, but he was just happy to see them again. It felt like he had just been in a similar position, though Shannon had not survived and, while it was still a little up in the air about what would happen for Buck, he was pretty sure that he had a better chance than his ex-wife did. Well, it not only felt like it, but had happened not long before. He had just come back from the few days of leave he had been able to take for her funeral. Their divorce finalizing not long before meant that he could not take bereavement leave, so had needed to use some of his vacation time so that he could be there for his son as they both grieved for her.

Hen was apparently thinking along the same lines since she placed a hand softly on his arm for a moment before returning to working on Buck. He barely acknowledged her, most of his attention on his boyfriend. Well, this was one way to come out, he guessed. Not the way he had wanted to, and not the way he had wanted their relationship to come to light either, but these were definitely not normal circumstances.
