Trapped and Cornered

Summary:

Sonic would hate himself if anything happened to his family. Especially if he could have prevented it. So when Robotnik sends for him to strike a deal that with refusal would threaten his family, he doesn't have much of a choice but to say yes.

Or: I read a bunch of whump writing prompts and decided to act on it.

Notes:

I discovered whump this week. This is the result. I wrote three chapters in like, a week, so, um...
I would like to sincerely apologize in advance. As my designated favorite character, he must be put through absolute hell. So as another warning, graphic Depictions of blood and violence.

Chapter Text

Sonic stood in front of a large concrete fortress, standing in a defiant position. Giant mushrooms crested over the horizon, giving the air an orange tint. Machinery buzzed inside as Sonic stayed planted outside the large metal doors. The doors slowly hissed open, revealing multiple egg shaped robots hovering above the ground.

They looped around him, pushing him forward into the building. He didn’t resist. He walked into the building, keeping a few feet in front of the drones. They directed him down hallway after hallway, twisting his sense of direction until he didn’t know where he was anymore. They finally stopped in front of a pair of doors. They slid open, showing a dark room illuminated by a bunch of computer screens.

A chair sat menacingly in front of the screens, showing nothing but a dark silhouette. Sonic stepped into the room, anxiety running under his fur. The doors slid shut behind him, and he jumped at the sound.

“I didn’t think you’d be so jumpy,” said a voice in the chair. Sonic glared at the silhouette, electricity cracking around his fist.

“Turn. Around.” he growled, taking a step forward. The chair slowly turned, showing the man’s face.

“Heya, dude ,” the man said menacingly.

“So you’ve gone bald, Eggman? Really suits you. Try to keep the theme going, huh?” Sonic quipped, smirking cockily. The figure in the chair didn’t answer immediately. Sonic’s smile wavered, falling off his face after a moment. “What did you want from me?” he asked, worry slightly creeping into his tone.

“You love your quote unquote ‘family’, right?” He asked, standing up from the chair and stalking closer. Sonic finally got a good look at his face. His muschache bushed out from his face. Sonic took a small step back as he approached, just to bump into a drone floating behind his head. He stood his ground as Robotnik closed in on him.

“Of course I do,” he said, narrowing his eyes at him.

“And you wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to them, would you?” Robotnik said quietly, leaning closer. Sonic’s eyes widened, fear unfurling in his chest.

“What do you want from me?” he growled out again. Robotnik smirked this time.

“How bout a deal?” he nearly whispered.

“And if I refuse?”

“It’s not that hard to find where you live in a small town like that. And I wouldn’t mind if a few other people got hurt on the way,” Robotnik said, getting alarmingly close to Sonic’s muzzle. Sonic huffed in his face.

Sonic thought back to his parents. His brothers. He winced at the thought of them getting hurt because of him. He glared at Robotnik, taking a deep breath.

“What kind of deal?” he said in a low voice. Robotnik shrugged, glancing down at the floor.

“How bout you stay here for a while,” he said, giving Sonic a crooked smile. Sonic glared at him for a few long seconds.

“Fine.”

Robotnik stood up all the way, his smile growing across his face. “Good, I wouldn’t want things to get messy.” And with a flick of his hand, Sonic was grabbed from behind. He let out a surprised sound as a drone grabbed his wrist. It did the same to his other one, twisting them uncomfortably behind his back. He bared his teeth, whipping his head around just to feel cuffs go over his wrists. He stumbled forward as the drone let go.

He glared up at Robotnik. “I could kill you right now if I wanted to,” Sonic growled out.

“Very threatening, but right now I would like you to move,” he said, opening the doors. He pushed Sonic forward, smiling as he watched him get his balance back. He walked out in front of the hedgehog, leading him down more gray concrete hallways lit by bright white lights.

They stopped in front of a large metal door. It hissed open, and before Sonic could react, Robotnik kicked him into the room. Hard.

Sonic slammed against the floor, hitting his head against the hard concrete. He slid across the ground a few inches, wincing. With his arms restrained behind his back, he stayed on the floor for a moment, getting his breath back. Sonic slowly struggled to his knees, glaring towards the door. Robotnik’s shadow fell across the floor.

“You better keep your promise, you piece of crap,” Sonic growled. Robotnik smirked.

“Wouldn’t do any less,” he said slowly, closing the door.

And that is when Sonic was left in the dark.

----------------------------------------------------

Tails bolted down the attic stairs, fear fluttering in his chest like a panicked bird. He skidded onto the ground floor, running down the short hallway to the living room. He stopped in the doorway to the living room, panting as Tom and Maddie looked over at him. Before either of them could speak, Tails blurted out the words.

“Sonic is gone!”

Tom immediately sat up straighter, fear flashing in his eyes. “What do you mean he’s gone?”

“He left this note on his bed,” he said, scrambling over to the couch. Tom quickly grabbed it, reading it over. Maddie looked over his shoulder, worry growing in her gut as she read it.

I’ve gone to go settle something.

Don’t follow me.

-Sonic

“Did Knuckles say anything?” Tails asked, tails twisting nervously behind him.

“No, he went outside when he woke up,” Maddie answered. Tails immediately ran outside, still barefoot.

He stood in the front yard for a second, ears twitching in every direction. The crack of wood and chaos energy rang out from the woods behind the house. Tails bolted around the house, panic pushing him forward. He ran into the woods, rocks and sticks tearing into his paws.

“Knuckles!” he screamed, running into a clearing. Wood splinters covered the grass. Tails skidded to a stop at the edge of the clearing, watching his older brother punch through trees. Tails screamed his name again, and he turned to look at him.

He ran over as soon as he noticed that he was in distress. “What?” Knuckles asked gruffly.

“Do you know where Sonic is?” Tails asked him, out of breath. He shook his head.

“His bed was empty, but I just assumed he had gone for a run,” Knuckles answered.

“He left a note saying he had gone to settle something. What does that mean? What is he doing? Where’d he go? He just left . Why did he do that? He can’t just-” Tails was stopped abruptly as Knuckled pulled him against his chest. Tails trembled, wrapping his arms around Knuckles.

“We’ll find out where he’s gone,” he said steadily, keeping Tails pinned to his chest. They walked back to the house, Tails limping from running through the woods.

--------------------------------------------------------

Sonic hated the dark. Not only did he hate it. He feared it. He trembled slightly as the dark consumed him.

“What am I doing?” he asked himself, staring around the room. It didn’t matter anyway, because he wouldn’t have been able to see his paws in front of his face if he was uncuffed. Fear pulsed through his limbs as he stayed kneeling on the floor. The concrete floor was cold. AC blasted through his fur, freezing him underneath. The cold sunk into his bones, making him shiver.

“He won’t want much from me, right? I mean, he’ll probably want to do some tests on me and stuff, but that’ll be all, right? Okay?” He tried to downplay his situation, knowing that this was alot worse than it seemed. He had just agreed to let Eggman have free range on him . Things weren’t going to be good.

But Sonic had what they considered “high pain tolerance”. He fell off a skyscraper and got up unscathed. He was going to be fine. His thoughts went on this roller coaster of “I’m gonna be fine” and “Oh no, I’m gonna die”.

He shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut. Suddenly, a loud whirring sound started up above his head. His eyes snapped open, just for him to wince at the blinding light coming from the ceiling. His eyes burned as they adjusted to the light bouncing off the white painted walls. A cold metal table and chair stood in the room, its simplicity already scaring him.

He jumped as the door hissed open behind him. Robotnik padded into the room, backed by multiple drones. Sonic glared at him as he stopped right in front of him.

“Are you done with me yet?” Sonic taunted from the floor.

“Sad how you think this is the worst it’s gonna get,” Robotnik said in a flat tone. Sonic’s blood ran cold.

“Well, can you finish already, cuz I wanna get home before dinner,” Sonic quipped, ignoring the dread burning in his gut. Robotnik stalked past him, huffing a laugh.

“You think you’re going home today?” he said, leaning against the metal table. He stared into Sonic’s eyes, an unnerving smile plastered on his face. Sonic ears twitched back, betraying his fear.

“What are you going to do to me?” Sonic asked shakily, shifting on his knees. Robotnik laughed again, stringing it out longer and louder, bouncing off of the walls. Sonic flinched at the noise, flattening his ears to his head.

“I don’t think you want to know ,” Robotnik replied, the laugh still in his voice. He stepped forward, slowly closing in on him. Sonic scrambled backward awkwardly, his arms still pinned behind his back. Robotnik stood in front of him for a second, looking down at him. Sonic gulped in air, eyes wide and scared. His leg suddenly swung back, and before Sonic could react, he kicked him in the face.

The kick sent him reeling on the floor. His head slammed into the concrete, pain blooming along his face. He gasped, looking up at Robotnik. He shakily tried to sit up straight but was pushed back onto the floor. He glared daggers at the man as he pressed his shoe into his face. He winced as he pressed the toe of his shoe into what would be the bruise.

“I can’t be broken that easy,” Sonic grunted.

“Good,” Robotnik smirked, leaning close to his face, “Cuz I’m just getting started.”

He took his foot off his face, stepping back. He begins to walk towards the door, pressing buttons on his glove. The drones that had been silently hovering at the edge of the room began to close in on him. Robotnik paused at the door, looking back at him panting on the floor.

“I’ll be back. Don’t worry about it.”

He closed the door. Sonic panically glanced at the drones slowly closing in on him. “Wait, what are they doing…?” he whispered. He slowly sat himself up, shakily getting to his feet. His head throbbed where Eggman’s shoe had made contact with his face. He stepped away from the drones.

Mechanical arms dropped from the bottom of the drones, sharp ends pointed towards him. He flinched as a few swung at him, barely missing. Sonic bumped against the metal table, panic flaming in his chest. One of the drone's hits finally landed.

Sonic yelped as it left a long red gash across his chest. Pain bloomed from the area. He kicked into the air, trying to ward them off. They suddenly began swarming him like flies, ramming into him. With his hands cuffed behind his back, he couldn’t do much to fight them off. Sonic ducked and twisted to avoid them, but there were so many .

He bared his teeth as he felt them cutting through his fur. One scratched across his head. He felt blood trickling from the wound. They kept flying into him, full speed. He felt bruises slowly forming under his fur. One of them rammed straight into his head. He stumbled, running into the metal table. Soreness spread across his body as the drones continuously hit him.

They suddenly stopped. Sonic leaned against the table, panting heavily. “ Ow, ” he panted out, looking over the drones. They stayed frozen in the air, the red eye glowing menacingly. Sonic glared over at the door as it hissed open again. Robotnik stepped into the room, hands held behind his back. Sonic stood on his own two feet again.

“Heya, Egghead, you hate getting your hands dirty and have your robots do all the work for you…” Sonic’s voice faded as Robotnik took his hands from behind his back. He slowly walked forward, the weapon swinging from his grasp.

“What are you going to do with that?” Sonic asked, trying to keep the shake out of his voice. He eyed the iron tipped whip. “Seems pretty old-fashioned for you. But, I guess you are pretty old,” he said, ignoring the way Robotnik ran hands along the weapon.

“Sometimes, the old-fashioned way is the best way,” he replied, looking up from the whip. He stopped right in front of Sonic, placing the whip on the table. Sonic winced as the metal bits hit the tabletop. He yiped as Robotnik took a firm hold of the fur on top of his head before thrusting him into the metal chair.

“Sit.”

Sonic nearly lost his balance in the chair, but righted himself at the last moment. “Hey, so, ow?” Sonic said, shaking his head. With a flick of Robotnik’s hand, the cuffs around Sonic’s wrists came undone. He immediately brought them out in front of him, flexing his fingers. He ran his gloved fingers along the cuts lining his fur. He took off one of his gloves, wiping his paw along the scratches trickling with blood on his head.

Robotnik suddenly grabs his wrists, pinning them to the arms of the chair. Sonic breath hitched in his throat as his hands were cuffed to the arms of the chairs. He strained against them, pulling desperately. His glove had fallen to the floor, and Robotnik yanked his other one off.

“Hey-” he exclaimed. The white glove flopped to the ground. Robotnik quickly turned back to the table, digging through the drawers under the tabletop.

“I have been waiting for this for a long time,” he said maliciously. Sonic pressed himself as far into the chair as he could go as he turned around with a long chain wrapped around his fist. Sonic let out a small breathless laugh.

“You know you can be pretty scary sometimes, right?” he told Robotnik, trying to buy himself time.

“That’s really the fun part,” he answered, stretching out the chain with his other hand.

He let go of one end of the chain, letting it dangle out of his fist for a moment. Sonic sat in the chair, fear circulating through his entire body. Robotnik suddenly reared his arm back, bringing the chain down over the hedgehog. Sonic yelped as the rusty metal stung across his arms. He strained against the restraints as the chain came down a few more times.

Tears pricked his eyes as he writhed in the metal chair. He panted, trying to keep everything down. He glared at the man as Robotnik smiled at his struggle.

“If you’re gonna hurt me, at least find some use in it,” he panted out. Robotnik didn’t answer immediately. He ran his hand along the chain, smile widening as it left a little blood on his fingers.

“Oh, I will.”

Sonic flinched harshly as he bluffed another hit. Robotnik laughed loudly, the sound echoing off the concrete walls. Robotnik put the chain down, shaking his head as laughs still escaped him. He reached for the whip, playing with the handle. Sonic’s breath hitched in his throat.

“This is a fun little toy that I’ve been saving,” Robotnik said, keeping his eyes on the weapon. Sonic tried really hard not to whimper out of fear. His legs kicked out automatically at a desperate and useless attempt at escape. He pushed the chair a couple inches backwards just to have Robotnik pull him even closer than before. “You’re not getting away this time,” he said as his arm reared back.

Time seemed to slow as the whip came down. It snapped down against his head, the barbed ends ripping into his skin. He barely managed to hold back a scream as the metal barbs were yanked out of his fur. He squeezed his eyes shut as he panted past the pain. He felt blood dripping down the side of his head. He glared weakly at Robotnik, just for him to smile at him again.

“Poor little kid thinks he’s invincible, but he’s really not,” Robotnik said in a threatening tone, swiping the whip across his face again. Sonic gasps as it rips into his cheek. He looks up at the man, ears pressed flat to his head.

“I-I- you- I-” he stuttered.

“Be quiet, I wouldn’t want you to get hurt,” Robotnik said quietly, harshly running his finger through the cuts. Sonic yanked his head away. Robotnik pulls him back by the ear, pressing him close to his own face. Sonic’s too scared to pull away this time.

“I hope you enjoy your stay,” Robotnik breathed into his face. The cuffs in his wrists tightened at the words, digging harder into his fur. He winced. Robotnik stood up straight, leaving the whip hanging over the edge of the table. The metal bits clinked unevenly against the table, dripping blood onto the floor. Robotnik stalked over to the door, leaving the drones hovering around him.

“I wouldn’t move if I were you,” he said, turning around to look at him. Sonic shook his head, and as if on cue, one of the drones hovered closer to him. An arm dropped out of the bottom. The end of the arm pressed into his fur and he convulsed as electricity ran through his body. He screamed. Even after it was over, his nerves felt on fire. He trembled, staring at Robotnik smirking at him from the doorway.

“What do you want from me?” Sonic asked shakily before the drone shocked him again. Robotnik stayed standing in the doorway for a long moment.

“Nothing.”

And he closed the door, leaving Sonic alone in the bright white lights.

------------------------------------------------------

Tails, Knuckles, Tom and Maddie sat around the dining table, worry painted across all of their faces. Tails sat curled in one of the chairs, band aids plastered on the bottom of his feet.

“Was he acting weird at all yesterday?” he asked, looking around at everyone at the table.

“No, I would’ve noticed,” Tom said, rubbing his hands across his face.

“Maybe he just went on a long run,” Maddie suggested, hoping that was it. Tails shook his head.

“I heard him leave early this morning while I was sleeping. I should have stopped him,” Knuckles said, guilt burning in his stomach. Tails looked over at him.

“It’s not your fault, you know he’s like this. He would die if it meant we wouldn’t get hurt…” he trailed off, horror and panic overtaking his mind.

“Tails?” Maddie asked, reaching across the table.

“He said he was going to settle something,” he whispered. He looked up at her, fear filling his eyes. “Eggman.” The word echoed around the room. No one said anything.

“Oh god,” Tom said, running his hand through his hair. He winced as he thought about the crazed man hell bent on killing his boys. And if Sonic had gone to him willingly, there had to be some sort of threat on the line. Them.

“He still hasn’t learned to ask for help .” He said, anger layering the sentence. They sat in silence around the table, wondering just what could be happening to him.

----------------------------------------------------

Sonic stayed frozen in the chair, scared to move. His mouth felt dry, and he quietly swallowed. The lights above him buzzed. What was he doing? Why did he just go willingly to the one person who wanted to torture him like this? Why didn’t he ask for help? He inwardly grimaced, afraid to move his face. Hours dragged on, and he could barely hold himself still.

Energy built under his fur. He felt the strong urge to move, to twitch, to fidget. But he couldn’t because if he moved the slightest bit, he would get hurt. The minutes ticked, the only sound being the hum of the drones and his blood dripping from the whip.

Every second felt like it was grinding against his nerves. The air itself was begging him to move. He resisted the urge, keeping himself frozen in place. The blood dripping down his face dried, making his fur hard and itchy. His entire body felt sore, exhaustion pulling at him. He nearly nodded off multiple times, only to be awakened by searing white pain.

He faintly twisted his wrists in the cuffs, wincing as the tight metal scraped against his skin. The bits where the metal had spilled over in the molds cut through his fur.

Sonic had never been able to sit completely still for more than a minute. But that minute had been over hours ago. Sonic felt his insides physically vibrating. Explosive energy coursed under his fur. His breath began to come out in shallow gasps as he tried to keep still. Every sound in the room amplified by ten. The hum of the lights and the whirring of the drones and the blood pulsing in his ears pounded in his head. His heart beat battered his skull, pulsing even more pain through his head.

Sonic flinches as the drones beep loudly, ringing around the room. He writhes against the chair, pulling at the restraints. The cuffs suddenly open, Sonic’s paw flying out from his struggle. He bolted up and out of the chair, jumping up and down on his heels. He panted, his paws flying to the long gashes across his face. He yelped as he accidentally pressed his fingers into the wounds. He stumbled backwards, tripping on the chair. He fell to the floor, his head pounding against the concrete. He sucked air through his teeth, curling his head close to the rest of his body.

His faint whimper was cut off as the door slid open. He lifted his head off the floor, fear evident on his face as Robotnik stepped into the room. Behind him trailed a rolling metal table. Sonic couldn’t see what was on it from his place on the floor.

“I didn’t expect you to be down there already, makes it alot easier for me,” Robotnik chimed, smiling down at him. Sonic scrambled across the floor, trying desperately to sit up. The lashes across his arms throbbed as his muscles flexed under his skin. The gashes on his face and head had begun bleeding again, blood trickling down his face.

“What now?” Sonic asked, annoyance pushing past the fear in his tone. Robotnik didn’t answer. He just turned around to the rolling table, pulling it closer as he looked over the things on the top. He hummed as his hands flitted over the tabletop. Sonic’s ears pressed flat to his head as he smiled, selecting something off the table. But he tilted his head in confusion as Robotnik held up a long black strip of fabric.

“This’ll be useful at some point,” he said quietly to himself, putting the cloth back down. He instead grabbed a pair of handcuffs with a long chain coming off of them. He stepped away from the table, snapping the chain between his fists. Sonic’s breath shook in his throat as he looked up from the floor at the man.

Robotnik stepped closer, smirking as Sonic scrambled across the floor. “Don’t try and run,” he sneered, his steps coming faster. Robotnik crouched in front of him, his smile soft but menacing. “I’m just doing this so it can be easier for both of us,” he explained, reaching for Sonic’s wrists.

“Don’t touch me,” Sonic mumbled as Robotnik snapped the cuffs around his wrists. How could after only a few hours, Sonic could be so tired? Sonic weakly pulled against the metal, muttering pleads.

“No- what are you going to do? I need- please, I just- what are you going to do?” he asked, lifting his head off the ground. Robotnik didn’t answer his question.

“Up,” he told him, yanking the chain connected to the handcuffs. Sonic slowly got to his feet, temporarily blinded as all the blood rushed to his head. He stumbled for a second, feeling lightheaded. He nearly fell over when Robotnik pulled on the chain, jerking him over to a bolt in the ground Sonic hadn’t noticed. Robotnik connects the chain to the bolt in the floor. Sonic’s heart rate picks up as he desperately strains against the chain.

Robotnik walked past him, kicking him hard as he went by. Sonic yelped as his shoe met his ribs. He was sent reeling back a few feet, his shoes squeaking on the concrete floor. He winced as he brushed his hand across his ribs. “Ow,” he whispered under his breath. He looked up as he heard clattering on the table. Metal instruments cluttered the table.

Sonic trembled as Robotnik looked over each one carefully, as if deciding which one would hurt more. He hummed again as he picked one up. Sonic let out a scared sound as it glinted in the light. Sharp metal barbs dangled off of thin chains connected to the handle in Robotnik’s fist. Dread formed in Sonic’s gut as he stalked closer. He strained against the chains again, knowing it was useless. He felt sick as Robotnik stopped in front of him, smiling.

“That thing is pretty cool,” Sonic said, trying to hold him off. Robotnik let out a short laugh, messing with the metal ends.

“Do you want to see how cool it is?” he asked, waving it in his face. Sonic eyes widened, ears pressing flat against his head. He yanked uselessly on the chain, breath coming in short, panicked gasps. His eyes kept switching back and forth from the bolt in the floor to the weapon dangling dangerously from Robotnik’s hand.

The metal suddenly came down across his outstretched arms. Sonic screamed as the metal dug into his flesh. He yiped again as Robotnik quickly yanked the chain out of his arms. Tears pricked his eyes as blood dripped down his fur.

“This thing works pretty nicely, don’t you think?” Robotnik asked, inspecting the blood on the metal tips. Sonic’s feet skidded across the floor as he tried to get away from the weapon. But pulling on the cuffs around his wrists stretched the skin on his arms, making the deep gashes bleed more. He turned around, just for the weapon to come down across his back. He screamed again, the metal barbs pulling up chunks of his fur.

He glanced down at the floor, seeing his blood drip steadily through his blue fur. He moved, just for pain to shoot through the gashes. He gasped, a choked sob coming after. The weapon swung again, leaving more long, angry gashes. Sonic turned towards Robotnik, flinching at the crazed smile plastered across his face.

“You’re sadistic,” Sonic panted out, wincing as his breath stretched out the skin on his back. Robotnik did nothing but raise his eyebrows at him, making his smile look even scarier. He raised his arm again, the metal chains glinting in the fluorescent lights. Sonic’s heart pounded in his chest as he looked at the blood dripping off the metal barbs. His legs suddenly came out from under him. He collapsed on the floor, landing in the small puddle of his own blood.

“Poor boy,” Robotnik cooed, stepping closer. Sonic squeezed his eyes shut, pulling his arms over his head. He felt himself smudge blood from his arms onto his head. He jerked violently as searing pain lashed against his side. He let out a pained sound, but didn’t move otherwise. He opened his eyes as he felt his shoes being tugged off.

“You won’t need these, I don’t think,” Robotnik said, pulling off his red Pumas and his socks. He weakly reached for them.

“No… please…” Sonic muttered quietly. He yelped as his legs were lashed with the weapon. Blood poured from the wounds, pooling on the concrete.

“You know, I don’t really appreciate you getting blood all over my floor,” Robotnik said, looking over him disapprovingly. Sonic glared at him weakly.

“If you would stop then I wouldn’t get anything messy,” he said, wincing. Robotnik shook his head. He then, suddenly without warning, kicked him in the chest. Sonic gasped as all the air in his lungs was knocked out of him. He pulled his arms off his head, legs kicking out instinctively. The gashes in his legs throbbed and bled more at the motion.

He let out a scared and shaky gasp. He pushed himself off the floor a few inches, trying to sit up straight. He yelled as Robotnik pushed him down to the floor again with his foot, pressing his shoe into the bleeding gashes on his side. Sonic writhed on the floor, trying to get away from the pain in his side.

“It hurts, please-” he choked out. Robotnik leaned down, getting into his face while still pressing his shoe into his bloody side.

“About time something bad happened to you,” Robotnik said menacingly, pushing harder into his wounds. Sonic’s exhale came out as a whimper as pain shot through his ribs. He stared at Robotnik out of the corner of his eye with his ears pinned to his head.

“You think my entire life has just been fluffy family stuff?” Sonic grunted. “My mother died for me when I was three and then I lived alone for ten years, living off everyone’s garbage ,” he growled out, glaring at Robotnik.

“Hmm, interesting.” Robotnik stated as he took in the information. He took his foot off his side, stepping away for a second. Sonic sighed. He regretted that as his breath hitched in his throat, pain blooming across his entire body.

“Ow ow ow…” he muttered, curling into himself. It hurt to move, especially his arms. He brought them closer to his face, looking at the blood crusting around the edges. He stretched his head out, lapping at the wounds. He flinched at the strong taste of his own blood. He continued to lick at his wounds, trying to clean the blood out of his fur. He ignored Robotnik staring at him, too involved in cleaning the gashes.

Sonic couldn’t get the taste of blood out of his mouth. He needed water. But he doubted Robotnik would give him any. Robotnik watched him, revelling in this feeling of having the advantage over his greatest enemy.

Was his greatest enemy a three foot tall alien hedgehog? Sure, but don’t ruin the moment. Sonic trembled on the floor, the chain shaking and clicking against the concrete. Exhaustion pulled at him, pressing him to pass out. His entire body felt like it was made of lead.

Blood continued to trickle out of his wounds. They slowly dried, crusting into angry red scabs. Sonic's heart beat pounded against his skull, adding to the pain. He glanced up as Robotnik moved.

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” he told him, walking over to the door. Sonic flinched as the door slammed shut. The lights shut off, leaving him in complete darkness, lying in a puddle of his own blood.
