Nani lowered his gaze. He took a moment. Then another. The words came slowly. “That’s not the point” he said. “It’s just that… even back then, people always compared us. You were brilliant. People loved you. Always. Effortlessly. And me… I always felt like I was chasing.”
Sky paused, watching him, but didn’t interrupt.
"The competition” Nani continued, “was never between you and me. Not for me, at least. It was always between me… and the people watching. Who kept choosing you. Because you were more sociable. More open. Because you were Sky.”
Sky sighed, then said:“Did you never realize that… while you were running to get ahead of me, I was running to catch up to you?”
Nani said nothing. But his heart, that started running. For reasons of its own.
