The Alligator’s Bite(and The Marks It Left)

Summary:

After the second motive is announced, Mark makes it very clear to Jett that he doesn’t want to be his friend.

After the second class trial, he’s unable to take it back.

Notes:

Thought I’d go for a different approach for this request this time. This is my first time writing no dialogue.

Work Text:

Mark was what many called an introvert, and he wholly agreed with that.

And yet, for some reason, a certain drag racer didn’t seem to understand that.

Since the start of the killing game, Jett had made attempt after attempt to befriend Mark, despite the latter’s constant resistance.

And after the first real trial, Mark really didn’t want to deal with anyone anymore. He just wanted to be invisible, hidden away from everyone else.

But alas, Jett still found him.

Jett’s energy seemed to not have gone down in the slightest, even after the deaths of Wolfgang and Eva.

It frustrated Mark. How despite everything, Jett remained undeterred.

Even then, Jett remained undeterred.

For the next few days, Jett continued to make one sided conversation with Mark, much to the music’s producer chagrin.

Even now, Mark barely responded to the drag racer’s remarks, if he ever responded at all.

It was only until one day that Mark had enough.

The second motive had been announced. The motive consisted of each person having a forbidden action, and if they did it, they would be forced to kill in 24 hours or they would die.

Mark’s forbidden action was simple. He was not allowed to touch any items related to his talent, which was simple to follow as he was still bunking in Jett’s dorm.

Despite that, Mark found it unfortunate as he was still stuck with Jett, but even more so.

And even though the tensions between the group rose from the motive announcement, Jett still tried to talk to Mark.

And then, Mark put his foot down.

He wasn’t sure if anyone saw, but he couldn’t care less as he shouted at Jett for his idiocy.

How little he contributed to the class trials, how insufferable he was ever since they were trapped here, how much he loathed his personality.

How much he didn’t want to be his friend.

Mark had never unleashed that kind of rage on anyone, no matter how angry he was at them. But he just couldn’t restrain himself anymore.

Once Mark had stopped yelling, he was breathing heavily, staring at Jett, waiting for him to say anything.

But…nothing.

Jett just walked away in silence, his despair apparent by his body language.

Having calmed down, Mark walked away, tension thick in the air.

Mark learned what it meant to regret the words you couldn’t take back.

Ingrid was found dead in the dining hall. Slit in the throat by a knife.

And in the trial, it was discovered that Jett was the killer.

The drag racer explained why he did it. It was because of his forbidden action.

He could not stop being friendly to Mark Berskii.

That was when Mark made a realization.

Mark got angry at him, making Jett sad and do his forbidden action.

It was Mark’s fault that Jett had to kill Ingrid.

Yet in the end, the drag racer pinned no blame on him.

Instead, Jett gave his helmet to Mark, revealing his true face and the burn marks across it.

Mark wanted to apologize to him for what he said.

But he didn’t. He couldn’t because of the tears that welled in his eyes.

And he never did, because Jett got executed.

At the end of Jett’s execution, his entire suit had gotten burned off, revealing the many scars underneath.

But Mark knew the scar he had left on his soul.

A scar that would never heal, now that said soul was gone for good.
