“Would you mind showing me how to put these on?” Minato asks a few days after Akihiko gifted him his hand wraps.
“Why? Thinking about boxing?” Akihiko says, his eyes lighting up at the thought of getting anyone else to do his favourite sport.
Honestly, Minato could take or leave boxing, but he won’t say no to any chance to get stronger, and boxing seems a good way to do so. Although, truthfully, there is a part of Minato who wants to spend time with his senpai so he can get to know him better, which may be his motivating factor for the sudden request.
“Yeah. It looks like fun.” And it really does. The team went to cheer Akihiko on at a match last week, and he looked like he was having the time of his life.
“Awesome! Sure, I can show you. Come with me, Arisato.”
And Akihiko practically runs up the stairs to his bedroom, Minato trailing behind him. Akihiko leads him to the punching bag and other training gear, and asks Minato to roll his sleeves up to expose his wrists.
“Right, so…” Akihko trails off.
“Senpai?”
Akihiko lets out an awkward chuckle. “Just realised I’ve never explained this to anyone. You know what, it’s probably easier if I just show you.”
And before Minato can react, Akihiko takes Minato by the wrist and begins to wrap the fabric strips around his hand. Minato watches intently, intending to remember every step for when he does this for himself, but struggling to focus on anything other than how Akihiko’s firm but surprisingly gentle hands touch his own.
At first, Minato thinks he’s the only one struggling to keep his composure at the surprising intimacy (with the senpai he’s had a crush on for a while), but when Akihiko finishes wrapping his left hand, Minato raises his head and notices a distinct and adorable blush on Akihiko’s face. They’re so close, Akihiko still holding his hand.
For a moment, Minato thinks Akihiko is going to kiss him. But then his senpai clears his throat, lets go of Minato’s hand, and says, “O-Okay, now you try.”
