41st Regression Shin Yoosung Can Live

Summary:

Kim Dokja’s plans did not go as expected. The constellations and that damn dokkaebi condemned the Shin Yoosung from the 41st Round to become the Catastrophe of this scenario, even at the expense of probability.

And although he knew that his arrogance had been one of the factors that led to this outcome, he was going to curse the heavens until his heart grew tired of doing so.

There was no way to change this, and the only option left to him was to conclude things as the majority of the audience wished.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” looks at the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” with sympathy.]

‘If you feel so much sympathy, then why don’t you help me?’

Even though he knew it was impossible, he couldn’t help but think it.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” wants to make a deal with the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” to save the “Catastrophe of the Floods.”]

Oh, that was unexpected…

Chapter 1: Contract

Chapter Text

The senses are the foundation for receiving information in an organism. They help detect the conditions of a specific environment and determine how safe it is. Based on the information they receive, they assess how feasible it is to establish that environment as their living zone to guarantee survival and, in the case of more complex organisms, well-being.

At present, he can’t say what his senses are supposed to be detecting. The only thing he can perceive is an agonizing pain that extends from his heart —an organ that has been pierced by a sword— to his entire body. The blood, out of control, has started to destroy him from within.

He can’t hear or smell, and his vision is nearly gone. The mobility of his body is practically nonexistent. Most of his muscle functions have stopped responding. His neck can only bend slightly from inertia, due to the few nerve impulses his body is still able to emit.

“…”

The only thing keeping him conscious is guilt. Even though no one should be here with him, there are two people gripping the collar of his robe tightly.

Though he can’t perceive the reason for their actions, or their meaning, he understands that both are trembling.

…And crying. In what’s left of his arm, he can feel a strange liquid sensation.

‘… I’m an idiot.’

There are no words, no farewell that could be called emotional. Yet, he understands that it’s far more than he deserves. It’s far more than the world should give him and far more than he could have asked for. His weak heart tries to beat a little harder before contracting from blood loss.

It’s painful. Both in the literal and metaphorical sense. Though he knows how he got to this point, he never understood why he had to get here.

2 minutes and 37 seconds. That’s how long he has managed to stay alive.

Is that a short farewell? He supposed so. This was the result he had sought for so long, and the one he finally achieved. How long did it take? Hahaha.

He didn’t remember… When all this began, it was a long time ago.

A time not even the gods could pinpoint.

But maybe, that was for the best.

In the last instant his consciousness remains standing, he smiles.

‘This kind of death… isn’t so bad.’

Why was he still conscious?

[The Star Stream welcomes a new Constellation.]

What is this? He couldn’t help but frown at the floating screen in front of him.

“So this is what they always saw? It must have been uncomfortable to fight like this…”

[The Star Stream is briefly monitoring your existence.]

[The Star Stream is evaluating your status.]

[The Star Stream is evaluating your stories.]

Existence? Status? Stories?

His existence is a hyperbole, a contradiction in itself.

His status is certainly high… if you considered certain things as status.

And well… he has many stories.

“At least, what I believe are stories. Though their naming differs depending on the source, I think they’re the same… But, what exactly is the Star Stream? I don’t remember anything like this existing.”

[The Star Stream has decided to keep most of your parameters on hold until an upcoming update.]

[The Star Stream has set a few stories to stabilize your existence and connection with the Star Stream.]

[The Star Stream has decided to grant you wealth equivalent to what you had in life.]

“… This is weird.” He rubbed his face, looking at the dark environment surrounding him. “I’m sure I died. I couldn’t have miscalculated anything; I took every possible variable into account.”

[The Star Stream will relocate you shortly.]

[The Star Stream asks if you have any preference for your relocation.]

“How should I know, maybe a comfortable room? As long as it has a bed and some light, it’ll be fine.”

[The Star Stream has taken note.]

[The Star Stream will transport you immediately.]

[The Star Stream wishes you a pleasant stay.]

“Thanks, I guess.”

The world… dematerialized? It was a term he had used on occasion, but it still felt strange. The journey lasted only a few seconds.

Soon, a white floor and walls —which he couldn’t define as “boundaries”— surrounded him.

“Hmm.” He touched the sheets covering the only piece of furniture. “Oh, this is quality…”

He laid down.

“Star Stream, huh. Let’s see what you can do to entertain me while I figure out what went wrong.” He began browsing through the screen’s options. “… Damn, who built this thing? It’s horribly optimized…”

[The Star Stream will soon assign you a name.]

[The Star Stream is considering some of your stories to assign you a name.]

[The Star Stream is unsure how to name you due to the inconsistency of your stories.]

“Call me whatever you want. I recommend using my last ‘story’ as a base. Try to ignore the rest. Most of them aren’t all that important.”

[The Star Stream has not catalogued your stories, so it cannot assign you a name based on story classification.]

[The Star Stream is in a process of interweaving, and will assign you a name based on the actions carried out throughout your stories.]

“…”

[The Star Stream has found unique qualities that connect your stories.]

[These qualities have shown considerable consistency.]

[These qualities may be taken as the meaning of your existence in order to assign you a name.]

“What an unnecessarily complex use of words.”

[The Star Stream has successfully interwoven a meaning based on your stories with your existence.]

[The Star Stream has established a name so that you may communicate comfortably.]

[You may try sending a test message to see your name.]

“Alright… let’s see, I guess this is it.”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” is watching the Star Stream.]

“This is your round now, Shin Yoosung.”

Those were the words Kim Dokja spoke.

Those were the words he uttered with the expression he had mentally rehearsed for the past few days.

Normally, thinking about saving a catastrophe could be considered foolish. The Shin Yoosung of Round 41 was a difficult person to deal with, and he could easily progress by killing the Shin Yoosung of the current round.

But if he did that, Yoo Joonghyuk’s regressions would be meaningless, and the ending Kim Dokja sought would lose its value. It didn’t matter if he had to confront the Constellations right now—he would do so if it meant that both Shin Yoosungs could remain in this round.

Of course, this dokkaebi wasn’t going to sit idly by.

“I can’t allow this.”

“Are you prepared to face the consequences of interfering in the scenario? It seems you’ve already forgotten what happened last time.”

Kim Dokja had meticulously thought through every possible outcome of his decision. He understood he wouldn’t walk away free or without restrictions, but considering the consequences the probability storm would bring, he was confident things would mostly go the way he intended.

(Oh. He had been so naïve.)

“You’ve certainly taken a complicated and interesting path, but…” Dokkaebi Paul’s eyes gleamed dangerously. “Not all incarnations here are like you.”

[A new sub-scenario has arrived!]

“I’ll simply double the reward.”

Obviously, Paul wouldn’t give up without a fight, but that was a setback Kim Dokja had already accounted for.

“Don’t move! Not a single step!”

“Anyone who values their life—don’t even think about moving!”

Well, it was slightly unexpected that the King of Beauty, Min Jiwon, and the Maitreya King, Cha Sangkyung, were so easily on his side, but he wouldn’t deny it was a welcome help.

“Give it up already. Everyone will be satisfied this way. I’ll eventually meet the condition of this scenario, but I’ll do it when I see fit.”

The dokkaebi tilted his head slightly. The ominous aura around him gave Kim Dokja a bad feeling.

Even though he was receiving messages of support from many Constellations, Kim Dokja felt strangely anxious.

Yoo Joonghyuk’s furrowed brow only stoked his concerns.

“Satisfied? Oh… I see.” The dokkaebi’s mouth twisted into a strange smile. “Incarnation Kim Dokja, you truly are terrifying in many ways. Not only have you come this far without a sponsor, but your intelligence is overwhelming.”

If only he could take that as a compliment.

Dozens of sparks surrounded the dokkaebi.

“However, that same intelligence has made you far too arrogant.”

[The mid-grade dokkaebi “Paul” has interfered in the scenario.]

[Control of the scenario has been transferred to the mid-grade dokkaebi “Paul.”]

Kim Dokja felt the blood drain from his face. No, there was no way this guy was really going to do this. Why would he? The cost was too high even for the “Bureau.”

“What are you doing?!”

Though Kim Dokja understood what he was about to do, he asked in a voice full of anticipation.

“The usual, Incarnation Kim Dokja. The Catastrophe of the Floods is part of this scenario and must fulfill her role as dictated by the scenario.”

[The mid-grade dokkaebi “Paul” has applied the right of forced compliance.]

“GAH!” Shin Yoosung collapsed to her knees, trembling.

[The personality of the “Catastrophe of the Floods” has been forcibly changed.]

[The personality of the “Catastrophe of the Floods” has been fixed to the “Evil” branch.]

Normally, this would be a desperate measure.

Normally, this was something not used due to the horrible consequences it brought.

However…

[Some Constellations smile smugly.]

[A considerable number of Constellations cheer the development of the scenario.]

[Many Constellations enjoy this change of pace.]

… If many Constellations were willing to endure the probability storm, it was considered an acceptable action.

“… I don’t understand. Why?”

It was as if Kim Dokja’s world had collapsed. The calls from his group felt like distant whispers.

[Sorry, I tried to persuade them, but it was impossible. You have just as many detractors as you have supporters—if not more.] — That was the message Bihyung sent him.

But… all the Constellations were supporting him. The Korean Constellations were openly supporting him!

[The Constellation “Bald General of Justice” is dissatisfied with the plot change.]

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” looks at you with deep compassion.]

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” says he regrets this outcome.]

[Many Constellations lament this change.]

“Humans see what they want to see,” Paul said with a satisfied tone. “I wonder if you truly believed that Constellations were foolish beings. Certainly, many support you, but not all of them are so kind and empathetic.”

Kim Dokja gritted his teeth. Certainly, many Constellations were openly supporting him.

However…

[A group of Constellations laugh at your misfortune.]

[A group of Constellations have decided to leave you to your fate.]

[Many Constellations are satisfied with your failure.]

Many others were reluctant to stand by his side or to stay out of it.

"Do your best, Incarnation Kim Dokja."

Kim Dokja wanted to strangle that damned dokkaebi.

The only thing that kept his expression from twisting into deep hatred were the sad faces of both Shin Yoosungs.

And the fact that he had to think fast and stop Yoo Joonghyuk from killing the younger Shin Yoosung.

"Move, Kim Dokja."

"Touch her and we're going to have a lot of problems. That’s not something I can forgive."

"You failed. This is the only option."

Option? Kim Dokja wanted to laugh.

Not out of irony, but from sadness and anxiety.

It was never the only option, just that Kim Dokja wasn’t smart enough to successfully change the scenario.

"There’s another option."

"And what is that?"

"We're going to do what those bastards watching us want."

"... You can't be serious."

Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk shared a long look.

They challenged each other as their stances didn't waver.

However, although he had failed, Kim Dokja definitely wouldn’t fail again.

"We’re going to defeat the disaster."

Kim Dokja took a deep breath.

Yoo Joonghyuk looked at him slowly, searching for any sign of hesitation in his movements.

"Please support me. I can stop the disaster."

Yoo Joonghyuk showed nothing for a few seconds before turning toward the older Shin Yoosung with his usual blank expression.

If he hadn’t read all of TWSA in detail, he might have wondered what Lee Seolhwa ever saw in such an unromantic protagonist.

[The skill “Beast King’s Sensitivity. LvL 3” has been acquired.]

At other times, Kim Dokja might have been thankful to have this skill.

However, the only thing he felt was a lump in his throat at the expression of the “Lord of the Beasts.”

Sad, pitiful, and full of an unnatural contortion.

Kim Dokja didn’t want to do this.

[You can kill me.]

But this is his reality.

‘She doesn’t deserve this.’

A person who had suffered for so long, who was willing to give her existence for a cause and made unparalleled sacrifices, deserved a "good moment."

[The skill “Marker” has been activated.]

"I’ll release the ‘Delusional Demon, Kim Namwoon’ and add the ‘Judge of Evil, Jung Heewon’..."

The early scenarios weren’t especially easy, but they were far from difficult compared to the future scenarios in TWSA.

Overall, Kim Dokja had come out victorious from Scenario 1 until now without many major incidents, aside from the occasional trouble caused by that damned sunfish bastard.

Well, Han Sooyoung was also a headache, but a tolerable one.

Compared to the headache caused by the stress and slow-growing rage over the Constellations’ choices and that idiotic dokkaebi, Han Sooyoung had been a pleasant playmate.

In fact, she had been an incredibly reasonable companion.

Not like those idiots who only managed to ruin his plans.

Kim Dokja had been arrogant thinking that the Constellations wouldn’t realize his intentions or the trick he had planned for the second sponsor selection.

But why did it come to this?

Weren’t the Constellations supposed to want good stories? What better than screwing over a dokkaebi and his little group of streamers?

Hypocrites. This had been an incredibly original story by Star Stream standards.

Everything had gone so well… well, relatively well.

Not everything was sunshine and roses, but there hadn’t been significant losses.

Lee Jihye was here.

Lee Hyunsung was here.

Lee Seolhwa was here.

Yoo Mia must be somewhere.

(Kim Namwoon was an acceptable loss.)

And more importantly, Yoo Joonghyuk was here.

Kim Dokja would be dragged to hell and the deepest abyss before letting that idiot protagonist move on to the next regression.

Kim Dokja wasn’t allowing it. Nuh-uh.

He had also made important and very effective acquisitions.

Gong Pildu.

Jung Heewon.

Lee Gilyoung.

Yoo Sangah.

And the Shin Yoosung of the current regression.

He had expected that the Shin Yoosung from round 41 would also soon join them, and had already planned how to handle this scenario without a time limit, but the reality had been too disappointing or he wanted to slap himself.

Whatever the case, Kim Dokja was angry. He thought coldly and was “waiting” (buying time) for the solution to the “evil Shin Yoosung” created by forced compliance, but he still felt especially angry.

He wouldn’t blame Uriel.

He wouldn’t blame Sun Wukong.

He wouldn’t blame the dragon with the unnecessarily long name.

He wouldn’t blame the Secretive Plotter.

He also wouldn’t blame the few constellations he knew were on his side. He understood that many were willing to help him, but they could do little or nothing.

No one in TWSA could do it.

[The skill “Judgment Hour. Lvl 5” has been activated.]

But once this was over, he would make sure that—

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” mocks the stupidity of the mid-rank dokkaebi “Paul”.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” wonders how someone so naive managed to advance from low-rank dokkaebi to mid-rank dokkaebi.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” looks at the Constellation “Scribe of the Sky” with disappointment.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” wonders if all the Constellations of the “Eden” Nebula are equally implausible.]

Kim Dokja blinked. Even though he was in the middle of a fight where his life was at stake, those messages confused him. What constellation would dare to go against “Eden” and so openly against Metatron?

Not only that, did he really insult a dokkaebi without any fear?

“Gwah!”

Kim Dokja was lucky that Yoo Joonghyuk helped him dodge a kick from Shin Yoosung with his sword, who was twisting horribly, as if her body was unconsciously trying to stop itself.

“Focus, Kim Dokja.”

Kim Dokja came back to his senses. It didn’t matter. Those messages could wait.

For now, there were more important things to do.

“Listen everyone!”

Although his voice was trembling, he found the strength to keep going. Kim Dokja addressed the groups of the other Kings.

“Defend and attack!”

Then, he turned to his group.

“When she focuses on attacking Yoo Joonghyuk and me at close range, try to support us with long-range attacks, and when she tries to keep distance, we must try to keep up with her pace.”

Everyone nodded.

“If you don’t feel capable of supporting us that way, try to reduce the pressure from the monsters.”

“I’ll take care of the monkey,” said Lee Hyunsung.

“I’ll take care of King Masswood.”

“I’ll help you with that.”

The young Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung mounted the Queen Mirabad.

“I’ll help with the covering fire.”

“I’ll try to hold her movements so you can reach her and take advantage of openings.”

Lee Jihye and Yoo Sangah set off.

[Many Constellations are curious about the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” looks down on most Constellations.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says to stop staring at him because he doesn’t want to catch stupidity.]

[Many Constellations are angry with the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” for his choice of words.]

Kim Dokja stood beside Yoo Joonghyuk, barely paying attention to the commotion in the constellation chat.

“How many minutes do you have?”

“30. How about you?”

“Same here.” Said Kim Dokja.

It was a race against time.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” looks sympathetically at the Incarnation “Kim Dokja”.]

‘If you feel so much sympathy, why don’t you help me?’

Although he knew it was impossible, he couldn’t help but think it.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” wants to make a contract with the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” to save the “Flood Catastrophe”.]

Oh, that was unexpected...

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will save the “Flood Catastrophe” in exchange for a story of the Incarnation “Kim Dokja”’s choice and a performance.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” can decide what kind of performance to give.]

[The Constellation “Scribe of the Sky” looks suspiciously at the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

[Many Constellations have focused on the claim of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

“… Can you do that?”

“Kim Dokja…”

Yoo Joonghyuk looked at Kim Dokja confused.

“Don’t be sweet-talked by his words.”

Kim Dokja ignored him.

“Tell me honestly. Can you do that?”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it can.]

“Why? And how?”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it wants to see how the Incarnation Kim Dokja extends this scenario.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” is curious about how the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” will end this scenario considering the fulfillment conditions.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it has a skill that will allow it to return the “Flood Catastrophe” to its previous state.]

Kim Dokja dodged a series of consecutive strikes from Shin Yoosung. Fortunately, Yoo Sangah managed to draw the catastrophe’s attention so both could counterattack, defend, and move during the small time lapses when Shin Yoosung turned against them.

“Don’t believe what he says so easily.” The Regressor told him. “It’s suspicious that he only starts to make himself noticed in this case.”

“That’s true. Why did he only intervene now?”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it joined the channel recently.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it joined shortly before you destroyed the “Absolute Throne”.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it doesn’t usually treat other living beings as mere entertainment on a platform where it can comment like a rehearsed online stream.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it changed its mind when a small group of brainless people got carried away by its arrogance.]

[Many Constellations feel disgusted by the comments of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

[Many Constellations want an investigation against the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

“Alright, constellations…” Paul began. “I’m sure we can–”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” warns the mid-rank dokkaebi “Paul” that it will personally cut his tongue if he doesn’t shut up.]

It was a message that echoed loudly across the field.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says a poor quality camera should only broadcast for the little time it has left and not comment on the transmission.]

“Eh?”

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” laughs excitedly.]

[The Constellation “Bald General of Justice” opens his eyes in surprise.]

[The Constellation “Abyssal Dragon of the Black Flame” is left speechless.]

[The Constellation “Demon-like Judge of Fire” is conflicted.]

[Many Constellations have started searching for clues about the identity of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

In fact, it wasn’t just the Constellations.

“… That’s great.” Lee Jihye commented, with several bruises on her face and sore body while cutting a monster.

“Aren’t there repercussions if someone threatens those guys?”

“I didn’t think a constellation would show its displeasure with those bastards so openly.”

Other Incarnations, although risking their lives against the monsters attacking them, had similar thoughts.

Kim Dokja fell briefly silent.

“Kim Dokja… who is that constellation?”

“Do I look like I know?”

“Aren’t you a prophet?”

“There are limits to everything, Yoo Joonghyuk.” He said, gritting his teeth. “However, if he’s telling the truth…”

“Are you going to make a blind bet?”

… No wonder Yoo Joonghyuk is Yoo Joonghyuk.

Yoo Joonghyuk is the protagonist of TWSA, a novel that wrote the dozens of scenarios that took place in an apocalyptic setting, where law, order, and democracy are meaningless terms.

He is the Regressor who lived hundreds of times and, even though he felt like collapsing, kept going while bearing on his shoulders the burden of walking a lonely path where he saw his comrades and those he cared for die, who knows how many times.

Yoo Joonghyuk is a protagonist who adapted to this environment where death is normal.

He is a protagonist who understood the rules of the Star Stream and, regression after regression, lived under the eyes of the stars, fighting to survive.

Therefore, his suspicions were not unfounded. This was too good to be true.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” understands the suspicions of the Incarnation Yoo Joonghyuk. However, it says there is no need to worry, since this will not be a “faith” contract but one of clauses.]

And suddenly, Kim Dokja felt the irony.

‘So this is what Gong Pildu felt.’

[Sponsorship Contract

Employer: Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals.”

Employee: Incarnation “Kim Dokja.”

Purpose: The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will ensure the survival of the “Flood Catastrophe, Beast Lord Shin Yoosung” based on the wish of the Incarnation “Kim Dokja,” under a series of specific conditions.

  1. The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will have no influence over the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” through this sponsorship contract.

  2. The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will fully guarantee the safety of the “Flood Catastrophe,” with no damage, either short or long term.

  3. The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will suffer a punishment of the Incarnation “Kim Dokja”’s choice (this condition includes the death penalty).

  4. The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will only have the right to give orders to the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” to save the “Flood Catastrophe” (any order outside this scope can be denied, and the Constellation will pay a monetary penalty to the Incarnation equivalent to 1 order = 1,000,000 coins).

Conditions applied to the employee:

  1. The Incarnation “Kim Dokja” will transfer a story to the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” (this article may vary depending on the wishes of the Incarnation “Kim Dokja,” however, it will not increase or decrease the quality of the processed items).

  3. Both the story and the performance granted by the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” to the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” will be of the exclusive choice of the mentioned Incarnation.

  4. The level of satisfaction felt by the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” must be declared by the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” at the time of the procedure.

  5. If the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” does not feel the level of satisfaction declared by the Incarnation “Kim Dokja,” the Constellation may take, at its own choice, one story from the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” (the story taken can only have a value up to double that of the previously delivered item).

This contract can only be configured prior to the moment of acceptance declaration.]

“… I lose nothing and you gain nothing, if we are technical—damn it!”

Kim Dokja blocked a punch from Shin Yoosung with his arms. Although the impact didn’t hit vital organs directly, he felt the world shake from the force of the blow that sent him flying.

“!”

He moved his head by millimeters; had he not done so, Shin Yoosung could have decapitated him. If not for ‘Judgment Hour,’ he was sure he would have already become an ugly stain on the ground. A drop of sweat slid down his forehead, cheek, and fell to the floor.

When Shin Yoosung was preparing another blow, several threads floated over her and bound her tightly. Following that, Yoo Joonghyuk charged like a bull, pushing her with a punch to the face.

“I’ll give you time, Dokja-ssi!” Yoo Sangah declared while struggling. “But please, don’t take too long!”

“Think carefully about your choice, Kim Dokja.” Yoo Joonghyuk disappeared in a wave of air.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it gains a lot, only that those gains are indirect from the contract.]

“You’re very confident to put a clause where I can take your life if you fail.”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” boasts that unlike a certain group of Constellations, it’s more than just messages.]

[The Constellation “Abyssal Dragon of the Black Flame” asks if it’s referring to him.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it is not referring to him.]

Kim Dokja observed the exchange between Shin Yoosung, Yoo Joonghyuk, and Yoo Sangah.

It was a brief confrontation where Yoo Sangah fought with overwhelming strength, trying to restrict Shin Yoosung’s essential movements; there was a very specific set of threads that helped reduce the mobility of her legs and aided Yoo Joonghyuk in launching a series of sword attacks.

For a moment, you could think Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Sangah were matching the Beast Lord.

But that wasn’t the case.

“!”

It was a single movement that changed everything.

Shin Yoosung crouched, planted one arm on the ground, raised her legs, and, spinning like a top, pulled Yoo Sangah with ridiculous ease toward her. Once close enough, she hit her in the stomach, making her vomit blood.

The counterattack against Yoo Joonghyuk was even more ridiculous. Once Shin Yoosung kept Yoo Sangah’s body floating in the air, she stood up again, turning her back to Yoo Joonghyuk, who—“seeing” an opening—brought the tip of his sword to the lower back of Shin Yoosung.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says that the Incarnation “Yoo Joonghyuk” made a grave mistake thinking that was an opening.]

“Yes…” Kim Dokja muttered.

Shin Yoosung arched her body; her chest pushed out as she tilted her head back, and just as Yoo Joonghyuk was about to pierce her, she headbutted him with the back of her head directly in the face.

Yoo Joonghyuk went flying backward with a broken nose in an instant, but he didn’t have a moment to recover when Shin Yoosung swept the floor, knocking him down; she grabbed one of his legs and, after hitting him with a knee to the chest, slammed Yoo Sangah against him.

Kim Dokja sighed.

“All right, I accept. I won’t make any changes.”

[The contract has been agreed upon.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” feels satisfied.]

“So, what do I have to do in all this?”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” has transferred an item to you.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” must ensure that the “Flood Catastrophe” eats the transferred item.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says that once the item is consumed, the Incarnation “Kim Dokja” must move as far away as possible from the “Flood Catastrophe.”]

[Many Constellations are curious about the transferred item.]

Kim Dokja didn’t think much about it as he lunged at Shin Yoosung. She reacted quickly and dodged the kick he had thrown.

He glanced sideways at the item.

[Name: Dragon Scale.
Grade: ?
Description: Scale from a dragon that drowned. Possesses a small amount of magical power of unique and unknown origin.]

He clenched his hand tightly. Good, he had a plan.

First, he needed Shin Yoosung to follow him with more hysteria.

Therefore… he grabbed a handful of dirt and fragments and threw them at her face.

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” says he loves your cheeky side.]

[The eyes of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” look at you with no emotion.]

The reaction, although far from effective in a fight, caused the blood vessels in Shin Yoosung’s skin to become even more unnaturally prominent. She chased him while a bombardment from Lee Jihye collided against her.

A thick cloud of dust allowed him to slip behind her. Unfortunately, Shin Yoosung turned around sensing his movements.

But…

In a fleeting burst of air, Yoo Joonghyuk appeared behind her and immobilized her. Yoo Sangah’s threads moved swiftly, tightening her arms and forcing her to open her mouth.

Kim Dokja smiled. He loved the fact that this Constellation wasn’t afraid to tell everything to everyone.

“Hurry up!”

“That’s what I’m doing!”

He quickly placed the scale into Shin Yoosung’s mouth, between her teeth, and then punched her jaw. As much as he wanted to be gentle, he was sure she wouldn’t swallow this delicately.

Kim Dokja grabbed Shin Yoosung’s jaw, lifted her head toward the sky, and gave her a “pat” on the face.

“GUH!”

It was an unpleasant sound, but Shin Yoosung’s throat expanded slightly, allowing the item to pass through.

Shin Yoosung’s body lost strength. All the monsters around stopped moving.

Then, Shin Yoosung’s body began to tremble.

Yoo Joonghyuk breathed heavily.

“…Is this the part where we run?”

“Are you a comedian too? If so, black isn’t your color”—he said, feeling a strange source of power spiraling out of control—“But yes… Everyone, get away!”

And they ran, as their souls literally depended on it.

What followed, to put it mildly… was not gentle.

Kim Dokja ran with Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Sangah following him as fast as their legs could carry them. A brief series of lightning bolts surrounded Shin Yoosung’s body, and then the area exploded in a massive flash of red light.

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” opens their eyes in surprise.]

[The Constellation “Master of Steel” doubts what their eyes are seeing.]

“What does this mean?!” Paul roared as the probability storm began shaking the stage. Then he looked at the sky. “Do you understand what you’ve done?!”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says to let him work and worry about not getting hurt.]

Kim Dokja understood that, under certain conditions, the TWSA stages could unfold disastrously. In many cases, it was due to the appearance of certain beings.

The Outer Gods were one of those cases.

However… would that be comparable to the appearance of one?

[The current stage is experiencing a probability storm.]

[A probability rupture has been found in the stage.]

[An attempt is being made to restore the order of the stage.]

The world beneath Kim Dokja’s feet trembled; fortunately, he had managed to get far enough away from the explosion of power that had occurred and, at a safe distance, covered by his coat, tried to see what the hell was happening.

[Many Constellations are excited about the plot change.]

[Many Constellations have started doubting the logic of what they are seeing.]

[Restoration of the stage order has failed.]

“Dokja-ssi, what is this?”

He thought for a moment. “I have no idea. The only thing I hope is that everyone managed to stay safe.”

“Yes…”

“…Alright, what the hell happened here?” A sudden voice came beside him. “I leave you alone for a moment and you’ve already caused a disaster.”

“As such, it is being resolved.”

Jung Heewon raised an eyebrow at Kim Dokja. “Resolved? I haven’t been paying much attention to the stage’s conditions, but you all must have tried hard to discover the most disastrous way to end the last catastrophe.”

“Kim Dokja decided to save her.” Yoo Joonghyuk said.

Jung Heewon blinked.

“Did what?”

“We all agreed it was for the best.” Yoo Sangah said.

“Really, even this one here?” Jung Heewon pointed at Yoo Joonghyuk.

The latter didn’t look at her but asked, “You really didn’t know?”

“…Alright, my Constellation told me most of the way here.” She said. “Also about the appearance of this other Constellation that started provoking the others and how it wanted to scam Kim Dokja, however, it didn’t mention anything about a giant beam of light that was devouring everything.”

“They wouldn’t let me get scammed that easily.”

“Yeah, that’s true. You’re usually the scammer.”

“Is that an insult or a compliment?”

“A bit of both.” Jung Heewon frowned. “It’s bothering me that there are so many notifications.”

No one commented.

[The “Office” is in conflict due to the abrupt rupture of the stage’s probability.]

[The “Office” has detected two irregularities within the stage’s probability.]

[The “Office” has decided to focus on the larger one.]

[Many Constellations are starting to feel nervous.]

‘Who could it be?’

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” is indirectly releasing its state.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” has activated the stigma “Will of the Great Regent. LvL ?”.]

[The control of the stage granted to the mid-rank dokkaebi “Paul” is being forcibly withdrawn.]

… In the name of all that is sacred, what the hell was going on?

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” falls in surprise.]

[The Constellation “Demon-like Judge of Fire” thinks they are dreaming.]

[The Constellation “Scribe of the Sky” narrows their eyes toward the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

“… Uh?” Kim Dokja blinked.

“I didn’t know there was a constellation with that ability.”

Yoo Joonghyuk’s eyes widened before he turned to Kim Dokja. “Who is it?”

“I don’t know either!”

[Many Constellations begin leaving the channel as they realize the actions of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

[Many Constellations feel uncomfortable with the current events.]

[Many Constellations are looking at the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” with different eyes.]

[The Constellation “Secretive Plotter” nods approvingly at the actions of the Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals”.]

Kim Dokja thought, remembered, and even took out his cellphone to look for clues about this being.

He found nothing.

[Many Constellations have joined the channel.]

[I’m not sure how to feel. I lost many Constellations and have regained them again.] —said Bihyung.

For the first time, Kim Dokja knew that dokkaebi was in an existential dilemma.

He couldn’t think much about that when someone grabbed him by the coat and lifted him several feet into the air.

“Kim Dokja!”

“Put him down immediately!”

“Why is the dokkaebi—?!”

“What did you do?!”

Paul looked at him with practically bleeding eyes. “What consequences do you think this will have?! You won’t get away with this!”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” is releasing more of its state.]

The blinding light made Kim Dokja squint.

[The personality of the “Flood Catastrophe, Beast Lord Shin Yoosung” is being restored.]

Sparks surrounded Paul; however, Kim Dokja smiled.

That bastard hadn’t even noticed who was behind him.

“I know… you’re screwed.” He said as the light began to fade. “I’m really happy about that.”

“Screwed? Me? How dare you?! Consider yourself—”

However, Paul couldn’t say more when a strange trail without apparent order surrounded and restrained him.

[The personality of the “Flood Catastrophe, Beast Lord Shin Yoosung” has been restored.]

Kim Dokja fell to the ground.

“Mid-tier dokkaebi Paul.” A voice that could not be described as strong or weak made him look to his right. “You are under arrest for breaking the Law of Plausibility. We, the Executors, now have full custody over you.”

“From this moment on, your right to host major scenarios is revoked,” said the other executor.

“Your record as a dokkaebi is being completely erased, and you will suffer a rank demotion.”

“What do you mean by that?! I haven’t broken any Law of Plausibility!” Paul roared. “I ran the scenario according to the wishes of the constellations! The scenario was progressing without issues!”

“Enforced compliance cannot be used without severely violating the Law of Plausibility.”

“It can if the constellations are willing to bear the probability storm!”

“Then tell me, which constellations are willing to do that?”

A series of lightning bolts surrounded Paul, who blinked.

“W-Why?” His voice trembled.

“Be grateful that one constellation was willing to face the probability storm and somehow managed to suppress it,” said one executor. “If not for that, we’d all be in deep trouble because of you.”

“Not all consequences were avoided.” A spark flickered around Paul. “But it's relatively manageable.”

“Still. There were constellations willing to bear the burden with or without their intervention!”

“Really?” an executor ‘narrowed’ their eyes. “Tell me, low-tier dokkaebi Paul, which constellations are those?”

Paul’s body tensed.

[The Constellation “King’s Strategist” has left the channel.]

[The Constellation “One-Eyed Dragon of Sendai” has left the channel.]

[Many Constellations have left the channel.]

Although the channel still had a high number of followers, most of those who had supported the idea of ruining Kim Dokja’s plans had left.

Whether out of fear or disappointment, no constellations were willing to bear the plausibility load that had initially been created.

“N-No…”

“So, which constellations are supporting you? I’m waiting for your answer.”

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” laughs openly at the misfortune of mid-tier dokkaebi “Paul.”]

[The Constellation “Demon-like Judge of FIre” scoffs at the actions of mid-tier dokkaebi “Paul.”]

[The Constellation “Bald General of Justice” is pleased that justice is being served.]

[The Constellation “Secretive Plotter” is amused.]

Only constellations who openly supported Kim Dokja remained in the channel.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” states: ‘Humans are not the only ones who see only what they want to see.’]

“BASTARD!” Paul writhed in his confinement, grasping for something. He pointed at Bihyung. “Arrest him too! That dokkaebi has also been violating the Law of Plausibility!”

“Don’t shout so much,” one executor said. “Besides, of course he’s coming with us. Low-tier dokkaebi Bihyung was the one who informed us of the situation.”

“...”

“Don’t make that surprised face. On the contrary, you should be worried. Given your record, this won’t end well for you.” Paul began to ramble.

Both executors looked up at the sky for a moment. “On behalf of many, we thank you for your intervention in the scenario. Restoring the natural order of things has slightly lessened the weight of the Law of Plausibility and its consequences.”

“We will contact you soon,” said the other. A portal opened. “Expect an invitation.”

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” hopes there will be good food.]

“We’ll take that into account.”

[Kim Dokja] — said Bihyung. [I’ll leave the channel open. DON’T do anything unusual. Enjoy your achievement and don’t cause trouble.]

[…Understood.]

Everyone disappeared.

Kim Dokja… felt relieved. Everything turned out fine.

Although there was an unexpected and unknown appearance, this time it was welcome. That constellation helped him stay on course with his original plan.

And that idiot dokkaebi left without any satisfaction. It was a win-win.

Yoo Joonghyuk had already started walking.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” asks if you're planning to stay there the rest of the day.]

“Huh? Ah, no. Of course not.” He patted his cheeks before following.

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says to hurry up, since someone is waiting for you.]

“That lunatic got arrested, we can move on to the next scenario, there’s a beautiful sunset and it looks like we’ll get a bit of peace,” Jung Heewon commented. “Although I didn’t do much besides getting rid of a few monsters, I’m glad everything turned out well. Hmm, I think I could get some drinks.”

“That would be a good idea,” Yoo Sangah said.

“Do you drink?”

“Not often, but I can hold my alcohol well.”

“That’s great! Let’s just make sure to get the kids some sodas too,” she added, grabbing Kim Dokja by the shoulder. “What about our Kim Dokja?”

“Uh… I don’t have a good tolerance.”

“We’ll fix that tonight.” Jung Heewon nodded. “You’ll drink at least two bottles.”

“I think that’s a bit excessive.”

Jung Heewon stopped with a smile.

“Excessive will be the sermon I give you if you don’t use the right words with that girl,” she said before pushing him.

“Hyung!”

“Ahjussi!”

He stopped, not particularly nervous, but a little uncomfortable. The older Shin Yoosung was lying on the ground, and the younger Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung threw themselves at him. Kim Dokja gently patted both children’s heads while watching the older Shin Yoosung being treated by Lee Seolhwa.

‘Yoo Joonghyuk went a bit overboard.’

“Kim Dokja.”

He carefully moved the kids aside before kneeling next to the older Shin Yoosung, who had called him.

“Although I know I’ve already said it, considering the current circumstances, I think it’s appropriate to say it again.”

“Welcome. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.” Kim Dokja wetted his lips. “This is your round now, Shin Yoosung.”

The girl smiled, tired. “I’m glad it turned out that way.”

[The Constellation “Prisoner of the Golden Headband” approves of this outcome.]

[The Constellation “Secretive Plotter” feels satisfaction with the latest events.]

[The Constellation “Abyssal Dragon of the Black Flame” gives a thumbs up.]

[The Constellation “Demon-like Judge of Fire” smiles with joy at the scene.]

[The Constellation “Apocalypse of the Immortals” says it was worth intervening in the scenario.]

‘Those five are going to get along very well.’

Notes:

First of all, my apologies for my poor English. I've tried to translate this fanfic from my Spanish drafts into English, and I think I've done a decent job. However, I don't think it's that good, so I apologize if there are any strange translations.

Now, let's put that aside.

As such, this is my second ORV fanfic.

However, it's by far the only one that truly encompasses a plot like ORV's. This was a very long fanfic, as this change has many repercussions on ORV's plot.

Without Shin Yoosung's death, a good portion of the plot doesn't add up.

But I already have ideas for how to work the work without his death. It will take time, but I'll figure it out. I'll figure out how to make KDJ the adopted son of the King and Queen of the Underworld.

1. The first and most important clarification: "Apocalypse of the Immortals" is not an original character as such; technically, it's an existing character, except that theoretically no one should know its identity since its "Original Work" isn't published on this account.

And no, it's not plagiarism. And no, I'm not including other characters of this style; from here on out, I'll only work with ORV characters.

The point is, I couldn't think of a different way to save Shin Yoosung 41 in a way that made sense.

2. Now, this fanfic has poorly, uh, elaborate pairings. Doksang and Seolhyuk aren't the most popular couple in the fandom, but what can I say, I like them.

And I've always seen the YooHanKim trio as a trio of brothers who lose all intelligence when they're together.

That's not to say I'm saying ships don't make sense, just that they're not my cup of tea. That's all.

3. Uriel will still be Uriel regardless of my preferences.

4. This is the prologue, so there isn't much character exploration. This chapter is just a taste of the plot this fanfic will carry. However, I'm someone who writes a lot about the characters' "thoughts" and "feelings" and everything in general, so the chapters will be very long.

And considering this scenario is practically one of the initial stretches of any ORV, I have a lot to work on.

5. Criticism and such are welcome, especially criticism. I always like to improve as a writer, and as long as it's constructive criticism, I'll gladly receive it.

See you later!
