Work Text:
Ted’s back. In Richmond, where he belongs. James is now a coach for the women’s team- he’s ok really and Rebecca didn’t want to completely get rid of him.
Ted and Rebecca haven’t told anyone else yet, apart from Keeley, Michelle, and Henry. And obviously, Roy knows too but Keeley’s sworn him to secrecy, and Ted and Rebecca take that seriously. Roy acts tough, but he knows that Keeley will kill him if he lets slip.
It’s early days, so all Henry knows is that Ted and Rebecca are friends. Michelle has been told the full story, she’s cool with it, because like everything else, she called it.
Rebecca wakes up, Ted still asleep next to her. They’re round at her house, so they can arrive at work together. It’s match day, and they both need to get up- Ted has the nerves of the team to calm, and she has stakeholders to schmooze before she takes her usual seat at the stadium next to Keeley.
He twitches in his sleep, and she smiles and drops a kiss to his cheek. “Wake up, sleepyhead.”
“Mmm, I’m awake.” Ted stretches and yawns. He sits up next to her and kisses her lips, a hand coming up to cup her face gently.
She wants to deepen the kiss, to take it further, but they haven’t been intimate yet and now is not the time. With Ted relocating to England, and with all the upheaval and paperwork, they’ve decided to take things slowly.
She senses Ted wanting the same thing, but he breaks the kiss- no time for that now, they’ve got a match to get to.
It’s the first of the season, and Ted’s first official match back.
“I’ll make us some breakfast- pancake with strawberries ok? And a cup of dirt water?” He offers.
“That sounds good, I’m going to hop in the shower so don’t start cooking just yet.
“Okay.” Ted, who had showered the previous evening, replies. “See ya later.”
Ted gets out of bed, gathers his things, and heads to the guest bathroom to allow her to get ready.
She does, and soon enough, she’s ready for battle.
Rebecca heads downstairs, smiling at the sound of smooth jazz and Ted muttering to himself every now and again.
She walks into the kitchen, and Ted greets her with a smile. “Mornin’, boss! Here’s a cup of dirt water, and I’ve got some pancakes coming right up for ya!”
She smiles at this, sitting down at the counter island. “Thank you, I love you.”
“I love you too.” He beams, and kisses her.
He finishes up with her pancakes, and makes his own. He sits down opposite her, and looks down at his pancakes.
“You okay?” Rebecca looks up from her phone.
“Yeah, I was thinkin’ about doing somethin,, but only if you’re comfortable with it.” He replies nervously, his eyes reaching hers.
“Go on.”
“I was hopin’ that we could… Make you and I public. Today, if we win.”
“Against Everton… It’s going to be a tough match, they’ve won a couple of away matches recently. But it’s not impossible. And Keeley’s texted me and advised me to do that very thing, it’s good for the club, apparently.”
“That’s settled, then?” Ted asks, cocking an eyebrow at his partner enquiringly.
“I think so, yeah.” She replies, and they share a kiss to seal the deal.
There’s 3 minutes left, and so far, it’s a draw. It’ll got to penalties if they’re not careful.
“Come on Richmond! You can bloody do it!” Keeley yells from her spot next to Rebecca, and Rebecca is nervous, too. There’s a lot riding on this match.
Dani’s got the ball, the fans are chanting, the atmosphere is electric. He passes the ball to Jamie, who passes it to Sam.
He scores the deciding goal, and the stadium erupts.
“Oh shit, this is really happening.” Rebecca mutters, when she’s done celebrating. From the pitch, Ted finds her in the crowd, and smiles at her encouragingly.
“Babes, you okay? Oh shit, you’re gonna do the thing!” Keeley realises. “Good luck!”
“I’m gonna do the thing!” Rebecca answers, gives her bag to Keeley for safekeeping and makes her way down the steps, and across the pitch towards the man she loves. There’s noise from the fans, cheering but she can hear their confusion.
He takes her hands in his,and the crowd goes wild. Rebecca glances up to Keeley, and she’s cheering.
“Ready?” Ted asks.
“Yes, I’m ready. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
They kiss, and the noise in the stadium is deafening. The fans pour onto the pitch, to celebrate the win and apparently, Ted and Rebecca. The couple break apart, and Rebecca gives the security guys a nod, letting it slide.
“Ohmigod babes, you’re trending on twitter already, you’re hashtag Tebecca! I’m so happy for you!” Keeley says happily, giving Rebecca a hug.
Rebecca hugs her back, and then steps away to let Ted slide an arm around her waist and kiss her cheek. She leans against him, and feels relieved. They’re together, for all the world to see.
