Equations and Euphoria

Summary:

Soobin finally gains courage to ask Yeonjun out on a date.

Work Text:

Soobin had always known two things about himself.

First: he was a nerd. Not the cute, cool kind you see in dramas who remove their glasses and suddenly become hot. No. He was the kind who spent his lunch breaks in the library, calculating chemical equations for fun and getting too excited about planetary orbits.

Second: he was an alpha.

It was strange, almost ironic, really. The world expected alphas to be aggressive, confident, leaders. But Soobin was soft-spoken, polite to a fault, and so awkward that even ordering coffee made his ears turn red. If anyone found out he was an alpha, they probably wouldn’t believe it.

Which made his massive, pitiful, heart-wrenching crush on Yeonjun—the popular, beautiful, bubbly omega cheerleader—even more tragic.

Yeonjun was everything Soobin wasn’t. Loud but loveable. Charismatic. Effortlessly stylish. He wore cropped cheer uniforms and sparkly eyeshadow without caring what anyone said. He was sunshine dipped in sugar, with a laugh that rang through the halls like a bell. And he smelled like sweet peaches and fresh flowers—Soobin didn’t even have to be close to notice.

Every time Yeonjun passed by with his high ponytail swaying and a smile on his face, Soobin had to look away. He wasn’t some creepy alpha, but gods, he felt like one. Yeonjun probably didn’t even know he existed.

That was until their biology teacher paired them for a project.

And that’s when everything started to crumble.

🦊🐺

Yeonjun had been surprisingly kind. And pretty. Very much so that Soobin can't take his eyes off of him.

Soobin expected discomfort or irritation, but instead, Yeonjun flopped into the seat beside him with a casual, “Hey, partner~” and an amused smile that made Soobin want to melt into his chair.

At first, Soobin could barely speak without stammering. But Yeonjun was patient. He always texted back on time, always made room for their schedules to sync, and even started showing up early to their study sessions just to chat.

They weren’t best friends. But they were… close.

Close enough that Soobin’s heart was constantly threatening to beat out of his chest.

Close enough that Yeonjun started getting bolder. Sitting closer. Sharing snacks. Ruffling Soobin’s hair and calling him cute when he got a question right.

And once, during finals week, when Yeonjun was half-asleep on Soobin’s bed while they studied, he curled into Soobin’s hoodie like it was the safest place in the world and whispered, “You smell nice… Alpha.”

Soobin couldn’t breathe for ten seconds straight.

The day he asked Yeonjun out started like any other.

Until Yeonjun showed up outside Soobin’s classroom with two drinks from the café and that perfect heart-shaped smile.

“I brought you matcha,” Yeonjun chirped, handing over the cup. “You always get matcha.”

“Y-You noticed?” Soobin blinked, ears pink.

“Of course I did, dummy,” Yeonjun said with a teasing eye roll. “You always drink it when you're stressed. Finals next week, right?”

Soobin stared at him for a moment too long.

It was now or never.

His hands were shaking. His heart pounded in his chest. He didn’t even know what words were coming out of his mouth until he heard himself say:

“Yeonjun, would you—do you want to go out with me? Like…on a date?”

Yeonjun blinked.

Soobin wished the floor would open up and swallow him whole.

But then Yeonjun’s lips curled slowly into a smile—gentle, amused, and just a little surprised.

“I was wondering when you’d ask,” Yeonjun whispered. “I’ve been waiting forever.”

Soobin blinked.

“I—wait—you… what?”

Yeonjun giggled. “You think I wear your hoodie to sleep and sit in your lap during study breaks just for fun? You're so dense, Soobinnie.”

Soobin’s cheeks burned.

“I—I thought you were just touchy.”

“I’m an omega. I’m touchy with my alpha.” Yeonjun stepped closer, rising on his toes. “And you’ve been mine since the day you let me borrow your notes and called me ‘intelligent’ instead of ‘pretty.’ I’ve never heard that before.”

Soobin stood frozen as Yeonjun pressed a small, chaste kiss to his cheek.

“Pick me up Saturday. 6 PM. We’re doing bubble tea and stargazing. Dress cute.”

And with that, Yeonjun turned on his heel, ponytail bouncing as he skipped away, leaving behind a completely flustered—but now grinning—nerd alpha in love.

Soobin stood there for another full minute, clutching the now-slightly-warm matcha drink with wide eyes.

“Did I just get a date with the most perfect omega in school?” he muttered to himself.

Yes. Yes, he did.

And he was never letting him go.
