Work Text:
Saturday came quicker than Soobin expected.
He’d spent the entire week bouncing between anxiety and euphoria, triple-checking his outfit, Googling first date tips, and even rehearsing how to open the door for Yeonjun. 'Be chill,' he told himself. 'Don’t act like a weirdo. You’re the alpha. Be confident. Like in Chemistry class.'
He was not confident.
When he rang Yeonjun’s doorbell exactly at 6:00 PM, holding a tiny bouquet of baby’s breath and white tulips (he researched flower meanings too—new beginnings and admiration), his palms were sweaty and he almost tripped over the steps.
But all his nerves evaporated when Yeonjun opened the door.
He wore a pale pink cropped top that matched Soobin’s baby blue hoodie, his usual pretty skirt, and sparkly lip gloss. His cheeks had the faintest blush, and his hair was done in a soft, slightly tousled style that made him look effortlessly dreamy.
“You’re right on time,” Yeonjun beamed, eyes falling to the flowers. “You brought me flowers? Oh my god—are you serious?”
Soobin’s ears turned crimson. “I, uh, read somewhere that omegas like that on first dates…”
Yeonjun giggled and snatched the bouquet. “You’re such a nerd. I love it.”
💐
Their first stop was a bubble tea place downtown, one Yeonjun swore had the chewiest pearls and fluffiest milk foam.
They sat across from each other in a booth—Yeonjun with a taro milk tea and Soobin with classic matcha. Yeonjun kept stealing sips of Soobin’s drink with a shared straw.
Soobin thought he might faint.
“What do you do for fun?” Yeonjun asked, tapping his chin. “Besides solving equations and being adorable?”
Soobin pushed his glasses up. “Uh. I like astronomy. Reading. Um. I play piano. Badly.”
“Piano?” Yeonjun leaned in, genuinely impressed. “Wait, that’s hot. You’re like—nerdy with hidden talents.”
Soobin ducked his head, flustered. “You’re literally a cheerleader. That’s, like, the definition of hot.”
Yeonjun smiled like he’d just won a prize. “You think I’m hot?”
Soobin choked on his pearls. “I-I mean—objectively—yes! I—”
“Relax,” Yeonjun laughed, reaching over to touch his hand. “I know I’m hot. I just wanted to hear you say it.”
💐
After drinks, they walked to the local observatory hill.
It was a warm night, and the sky was clear. Soobin had brought a blanket and a little portable star projector, just in case clouds ruined the view—but to his relief, the real sky cooperated.
They lay down on the grass, side by side, shoulders almost touching.
“That one’s Orion,” Soobin pointed up. “See? The belt there—those three stars?”
Yeonjun followed his finger and nodded, his voice soft. “It’s prettier when you explain it.”
“Do you like space?” Soobin asked.
Yeonjun hummed. “I like the idea of it. Endless. Beautiful. Kinda lonely.”
Soobin tilted his head. “You’re never lonely though, right? You’re always surrounded.”
Yeonjun let out a little sigh. “I am. But sometimes it still feels like no one really sees me. Like… everyone wants me because I’m ‘popular cheerleader and omega Yeonjun,’ but not because I’m me.”
Soobin went quiet for a second.
Then he turned toward Yeonjun fully and said, quietly, “I see you.”
Yeonjun blinked.
“I see the way you help your cheer squad stretch even when you’ve already done your routine. I see how you hum when you study. How you call your best friend every night to check if he’s eaten. How you picked me for our presentation even though you could’ve picked someone easier.”
Yeonjun was still. His lip trembled a bit, just a little.
“I see you,” Soobin repeated. “And I like what I see.”
There was a long pause.
Then Yeonjun moved closer, resting his head on Soobin’s shoulder.
“You’re not what I expected in an alpha,” Yeonjun whispered.
Soobin’s breath hitched. “Is that a bad thing?”
“No,” Yeonjun murmured. “It’s the best surprise I’ve ever had.”
The stars kept glowing above them.
Soobin didn’t move. He didn’t want to break the moment. Yeonjun’s peach-blossom scent wrapped around him like a soft blanket, and for once, Soobin didn’t feel nervous.
Just happy.
Yeonjun nuzzled into his arm like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“Soobin?”
“Yeah?”
“Promise me this isn’t a one-time thing.”
Soobin looked at him—gorgeous, glowing in starlight, lip gloss slightly faded, but eyes full of hope.
“I promise,” he said. “As long as you’ll have me.”
Yeonjun smiled, soft and sure.
“I think I already do.”
