In His Arms

Summary:

Yeonjun and Soobin on a study date. Or not.

Work Text:

Soobin wasn’t sure what was more dangerous: the looming chemistry final, or Yeonjun—curled up in his hoodie, legs tucked under him on Soobin’s bed, flipping through their notes with a red lollipop stuck in his mouth like it belonged there.

They were supposed to be studying covalent bonding, but Soobin’s brain had short-circuited sometime around the moment Yeonjun pulled off his cropped cheer sweater and asked shyly, “Can I borrow one of your hoodies? It smells nice…”

Now, Yeonjun sat surrounded by Soobin’s pillows like a smug little princess, knees knocking together as he squinted at the worksheet.

“Ugh. My back hurts,” Yeonjun groaned. “This position sucks.”

Soobin looked up from his notes, brows furrowed. “You want another pillow?”

Yeonjun blinked at him. Slowly, a mischievous smile spread across his face.

“No,” he said, voice sweet and casual. “I’ll just sit on your lap.”

“Wh—” Soobin barely had time to react before Yeonjun was climbing into his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Soobin went rigid. “Y-Yeonjun—!”

“Shhh.” Yeonjun settled in, wiggling slightly to get comfortable—not helping. “It’s fine. I don’t bite unless you ask.”

Soobin made a noise that may have been a squeak.

Yeonjun giggled and leaned back against Soobin’s chest, resting his notebook on his thighs like a desk. “You're warm,” he murmured. “And you smell good. I think I’m gonna study better like this.”

Soobin was certain the tips of his ears were glowing.

His hands hovered in the air awkwardly, unsure where to put them. One wrong move and he’d look like a creep. One right move and he’d still feel like a creep.

Yeonjun solved that for him.

He grabbed Soobin’s wrists gently and guided his arms around his waist. “There. You’re allowed to hold me, y’know. I am sitting on you.”

Soobin gulped. “I just didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

Yeonjun tilted his head and looked up at him from over his shoulder, the lollipop now resting between his fingers. “You could never make me uncomfortable.”

His voice softened.

“Not when it’s you.”

Soobin’s heart stuttered. He didn’t say anything—just nodded and held Yeonjun a little closer, like he was fragile glass.

If Soobin retained any information about covalent bonds, it was a miracle. Because all he could think about was how perfectly Yeonjun fit against him. And how terrifying—and exhilarating—it was to want someone this much.

They studied like that for another hour.

An hour of Yeonjun sitting warm and pliant in his lap, occasionally giggling when their knees bumped, and asking questions about ionic bonds like he wasn’t slowly unraveling Soobin’s entire nervous system. He acts like it's nothing when all Soobin wants to do is lose control and kiss him stupid.

Soobin’s arms were still wrapped around Yeonjun’s waist, but stiff. Like he was holding a textbook, not a living, breathing omega who smelled like fresh peaches and bubblegum.

But then Yeonjun shifted again—this time with a soft sigh, his back pressing more fully against Soobin’s chest.

“You don’t have to be so tense, you know,” he murmured, not looking up from the notes. “I’m not gonna shatter if you hold me like you mean it.”

Soobin froze. “I—I'm just—”

Yeonjun reached back without turning, his hand brushing Soobin’s cheek gently. “You’re sweet,” he said. “Too sweet for an alpha. You know that?”

Soobin’s breath hitched.

Then slowly, carefully, he let his hands settle properly on Yeonjun’s waist. His thumbs rested at the dip of Yeonjun’s sides, fingers splayed across the softness of his hoodie-covered stomach. Yeonjun tensed—for half a second—then melted like sugar into his arms.

“There,” Yeonjun whispered. “That’s better.”

Soobin’s head dropped a little, his chin brushing the crown of Yeonjun’s hair. He didn’t mean to breathe in so deeply—but he did. And it made something in his chest ache.

'Mine.'
The word whispered in his instincts.

But he shoved it down, biting his tongue. 'Not yet. Don’t ruin this.'

A little while passed. Soobin kept reading the text aloud, his voice soft and low.

Yeonjun had gone quiet.

He didn’t say anything for a full two pages. Didn’t giggle. Didn’t ask a question.

Soobin paused. “Yeonjun?”

No answer.

He tilted his head to look—and smiled.

Yeonjun had fallen asleep.

His lashes fluttered lightly against his cheeks, lips parted slightly. One hand still loosely gripped his pen, the other tucked against Soobin’s arm like a pillow. The faint rise and fall of his chest was slow and calm.

Soobin’s heart stilled.

There was something so intimate about it. Not just the physical closeness, but the trust. Yeonjun had fallen asleep in his arms, without fear or hesitation. He didn’t know if it meant anything to anyone else.

But to Soobin, it meant everything.

He held Yeonjun just a little tighter.

His voice barely a whisper, he murmured into Yeonjun’s hair, “Sleep well. I’ve got you.”

And he did.

Later that night, as Yeonjun slowly woke up—face buried against Soobin’s chest, hoodie sleeves far too long—he blinked sleepily and whispered, “You’re comfy.”

Soobin chuckled, rubbing small circles on his waist. “You’re clingy.”

“Only with you,” Yeonjun mumbled, before dozing off again.

Soobin didn’t move.

He didn’t want to.

Because for the first time, he wasn’t just studying chemistry.

He was feeling it.
