EunHyeok was sitting alone at his chair, he slowly wrote down his name in red letters under 'infected'. The fading sounds of the group running could be barely heard and the sound of bullets on concrete held a rhythm similar to rain. A subtle movement to his right made him look up, sad human eyes looked back. Hyunsu didn't say anything at the beginning, but extended his hand to hold his on top of the paper.
"Im sorry" EunHyeok said, squeezing Hyunsu's hand. He did everything he thought was right for their survival, and he doesn't regret his actions, but he does lament hurting someone so gentle and kind like Hyunsu. Part of EunHyeok wishes he could have trusted him earlier, that he had known Hyunsu wouldn't turn like the other monsters.
Hyunsu doesn't care for an apology, he understands the man. EunHyeok did his best, without his leadership they wouldn't have survived this long. The elder doesnt deserve this ending, Hyunsu thinks. EunHyeok is strong, he will resist the monster just like him. "Hyung, whatever you see then, its not real. No matter how tempting, your sister is waiting outside of that. We will be waiting" EunHyeok hand trembles when their hands are joined. He pulls the other teen in an embrace, they should have met in normal circumstances, he would have loved to cook him some home made meals, tutor him for science, played some video games together. Hyunsu was a good kid.
"I know, it will only get harder from now on". The bullets outside have stopped, Hyunsu's tears had started to dry up. Despite EunHyeok not even noticing when they started. "I'll get a solution, im sure of it" Hyunsu's voice is full of conviction, his eyes shine with a lighter tone than before. "Resist untill then and lets meet again when this all comes to an end"
A quick nod and Hyunsu is standing up. He doesn't know what to expect from now, but he walks with determination towards the entrance. EunHyeok walks from the sidelines hidden from the outside, he sees Hyunsu leave as well like the rest of their group, leaving him alone.
The bullets return once more, EunHyeok feels his skin pick up by the actions of the military against their precious 'special infected'. The light filters from the broken windows and EunHyeok goes deeper inside the building to avoid being discovered. He enters the control room once more, pulls up his headphones and opens his sisters music device. He cradles their childhood picture, her smile bright and innocent then. Their parents smiling and framing their little family.
The droplets of blood stain the picture, he tries to wipe it but the blood keeps pouring. Finally the tears that he has holden all this time fall as well, he didn't want to cry in front his sister, not while hugging Hyunsu. He sobs silently on the chair, as the noises outside come to a halt once more. He hopes they are fine, that his sister survives, that Hyunsu survives, that the kids, the neighbors, everyone, makes it out of it alive.
No one is there to hear him cry.
