    Summary

The Ministry was quiet at night. Not peacefully quiet – unsettlingly so, as if the building itself was holding its breath. Sister Poppy wandered the halls, her steps soft against the cold stone floors. A green plaid blanket scarf hung from her shoulders to shield from the soft breeze blowing through the halls. She hadn’t been able to sleep. Her mind was too loud, too full, and her body was too restless to lie still.

The corridors were dim, lit only by scattered sconces and the pale moonlight filtering through the stained glass windows. Shadows stretched across the walls. She didn’t know where she was going, only that she didn’t want to – couldn’t – stay in her room anymore.
