No Way Home

Summary:

Anya is in her hometown, on the beach—gazing at the sunset and petting a cat.

Notes:

Basically, my attempt at writing something very short.

Work Text:

Anya gazed at the sunset on the beach. The red glow bathed the world around her. Her hometown, she didn't visit it for years.

A flash in her mind—she and Daisuke approached her family home. She called out for her mother, yet she wasn't there. Anya stood in the hall, looking around like a lost child.

Funny, isn't it? She promised Daisuke she'd be his guest. She implored him to stay, though.

Anya sighed. She heard meowing, and her head snapped in the sound's direction.

A tuxedo cat with blue eyes stared at her. It jumped onto the bench she was sitting on.

"Hey, what's going on?" Anya asked in a gentle tone. She then saw a car wheel mark on the cat's body. She smirked sadly and put it on her knees with caution. "You had it bad, didn't you?"

As she was scratching the cat under its chin and looking at the sun, she thought—when she was alive, everything was different here. This beach was never empty.

The cat fell asleep. Anya took it in her arms, hugging it. She decided to bring it home.

She left after glancing at the sunset for one last time.
