But what if one early morning Yelena wakes up in Kate’s bed. Kate is still fast asleep next to her. The sun is just about to rise, and she could hear the rain hitting the window.
She studied the girl next to her for a moment. Before closing her eyes for a minute taking a deep breath. It had happened again.
Kate had been there for her with open arms when she had needed it the most. What was this dance they were doing? Yelena did not know.
It didn’t mean she didn’t try to understand. She knew she had strong feeling for the girl. Everything about it was so new to her.
She didn’t have any experience from earlier since she was not in control of her own life. She had seen people in relationships, but she didn’t know if it was for her.
It was all so confusing for her. Then along came Kate Bishop and made it so much more confusing. Yelena let a breath out she didn’t know she was holding and opened her eyes.
She did her best to be as quiet getting up from the bed and collecting her clothes. She glanced over her shoulder to see Kate still fast asleep when she jumped into her jeans and slide her hoodie on.
She opened the window and carefully made her way to the street. The rain was pouring down and she pushed her hands to the pockets of her jeans.
She heard her name in the distance which made her hang her head. It was Kate. She sounded so...disappointed and sad. Yelena turned around and let Kate reach her. “What is this, Yelena? How do you think I feel after you sneak off like this”?
Yelena couldn’t look her in the eyes. She knew her behavior was going to hurt the other girl sooner than later. She didn’t want to hurt her but still she kept sneaking off. The rain was still coming down hard and both of them were soaked up.
Yelena noticed Kate was already shivering from the cold. Kate had thrown on a sweater on her while hurrying after Yelena. “I can see you are cold Kate. You should go back inside.
There’s no need for you to get the flu.” Yelena tried to push the girl away softly with her words. She saw Kate getting frustrated and maybe a bit angry.
“So now you care about what happens to me? Where is this side of you when you ran off without saying a word and leaving me for weeks to wonder if you are still alive?” Yelena was speechless. “ I....” Kate wasn’t having it. “Do you have any idea how it feels that I can’t get a hold of you at anytime, but you can get to me anytime you feel like you need my company? “
Yelena felt a tear dropping down on her cheek and she was glad that the rain covered it while she bites down her lower lip. She knew exactly what Kate meant. It had been worrying her too, but she never mentioned it.
Mostly because she didn’t know how to handle it. And here she was with Kate who wanted to talk about it. She knew Kate was waiting for answers, but she didn’t know the right words.
Kate was getting more frustrated, and she could swear she saw the girl crying too. “I can’t keep on doing this anymore...” Kate’s voice was cracking. “I just can’t..Goodbye Yelena.” Kate turns around to walk away and Yelena takes a step towards her. “Kate please..” She says as she feels more tears making they way down.
Kate stops for a moment but keeps on walking. Yelena watches in pain while Kate walks away. Yelena thinks maybe this is the right choice just to walk away. It would be easier. It would be easier in the end at least.
Before she can stop herself she can feel running after Kate. She moves in front of the girl stopping her from walking further. Realizing she had not thought this trough at all. What is she supposed to do now?
She didn’t want the girl to walk away from her life. “Kate please..I am so sorry. Please don’t go.” Yelena looks into eyes that are as much teared up as hers are. “Please stay. I need you.” Talking about her feelings was never her forte but she tried. “ I...care for you too much for this to end up like this. I am sorry I have been sending you mixed signals.” Kate’s face had softened but she still looked so hurt. Yelena swallowed hard. “ Kate you mean the world to me and I can’t walk away from you...I can’t walk away from you anymore.” Yelena was struggling and Kate saw it. She saw Yelena was trying. “ I can’t lose you Kate.. I can’t..”. Yelena was about to break down in front of Kate. “ Please....stay with me.”
Kate wrapped her hands around Yelena pressing her lips on Yelena's neck hoping it would assure Yelena everything was good and she could relax. She whispers in her ear. “Let’s get back inside, okay?”
She could feel Yelena nodding softly against her while she sneaks her arms around Kate pulling her close. Yelena realizes she can’t fuck things up this bad anymore. She is going to try harder. No matter what it takes.
