Work Text:
It felt like centuries have passed since she last saw her Doctor, but in reality it had any been days since she stepped foot on that beach. This new universe wasnt much different from her own, she had her mom, her dad, and now a baby brother on the way; she even had him.
Well some of him.
Why was she conflicted?
The Doctor she came home with was her Doctor but she knew it wasn't the original man who grabbed her hand that faithful day and said 'run.'
Everytime she thought of the differences her stomach curled, she hated herself for it. Why couldn't see accept him?
Rose was ignoring him, this new Doctor, through no fault of his own. It was her, she was the problem and now she was abandoning the clone of a man who would burn a universe for her.
"Rose!"
A familiar voice rang out from the sliding glass door, knocking her from her thoughts.
"Rose! Come here!"
"Coming!" Rose yelled back, she knew her mom was impatient so she sighed and made her way to the side door.
"What's wrong?"
Jackie pointed towards the garden, "he wants to show you something."
Rose immediately felt that same curl in her stomach.
"Okay."
Rose took her time walking to the garden, not ready to see the man she thought she knew.
The man glanced over his shoulder, locking eyes with Rose, a smile creeping on his face. He was wearing the most ridiculous overalls, it almost brought a smile to her face. He had dirt on his clothes and face, obviously he had been working in the garden but for what?
"Look Rose!" He exclaimed, moving to the side, arms stretched out wide to frame his creation. It was the TARDIS blub that her original Doctor gave her on that horrible day, it was buried next to one of the rose bushes.
"Whatcha think? Good start, eh?" His eyes sparkled with pride, a look she had seen a million times before but now it just brought her grief.
The Doctor's smile fell, "Rose?"
Tears fell down her cheeks as she stared at him, it was such a thoughtful gesture, why is her heart shattering?
The Doctor reached out to her, making her flinch back from his touch. The tears continue to flow and her breathing quickened as her chest tightened more as the seconds ticked on.
The Doctor carried a look of concern but didn't try to reach towards her again, his once sparkling eyes dulled as he frowned at the sight of her.
She knew he was just being nice but she couldn't stop thinking about her Doctor and how he was alone in another dimension without her. She was ashamed and riddled with guilt.
"I'm sorry," she choked out before taking off back towards the house.
How was she supposed to move on?
