Work Text:

The Hospital Wing after the Battle of Hogwarts ended was full with overflow in a couple nearby classrooms with transfigured beds. Madam Pomfrey had some of her associates from St. Mungo’s come by and not only help with the injuries at the school but take the most serious cases back to St. Mungo’s. Madam Pomfrey had obviously been anticipating something like this as she did have a higher store of potions than normal but there still needed to be some more brewed due to the immense number of injuries. Luckily she had enough to make sure nobody stayed injured enough to die.

Harry was one of those currently confined to a bed and he hated it. Fred was in another bed, unconscious but alive, with George practically glued to his side.

The rest of the Weasleys were between the two beds that Madam Pomfrey had placed together so they could be near the two most injured of them and help out a bit (they all had at least a little experience with healing magic). The rest of them had minor cuts and injuries but nobody was injured as much as Harry and Fred.

Hence the confined to a bed thing and the worried family members stuck to their sides.

Charlie was especially stuck to Harry’s side. Ron and Hermione were too, but the possibly budding relationship between him and Charlie sort of explained things.

“Guys, I’m really fine. I do not need to be in this bed-”

“Mate,” Ron said, cutting him off, “you look bloody awful. I know you defeated Voldemort and all, but you’re pretty banged up. Just accept the coddling for once and let yourself be healed without trying to break out of the Hospital Wing first chance.”

Harry huffed as the rest of the family nodded emphatically to Ron’s statement. It was common knowledge that Harry hated being in the Hospital Wing.

“Well, you all don’t need to hover-”

“Harry, we’re staying,” Charlie said, Harry getting cut off once more.

“I’m really fine, you don’t need to stay with me!”

“I don’t care. I’m not letting you get up until I know that you’re one hundred percent better and the only way that’s happening is if at least one of us stays here with you. So I’m not leaving and most of us won’t be leaving anytime soon either.”

Harry huffed, but felt butterflies in his stomach with the indirect love declaration from Charlie in front of everybody. He felt a small blush colour his cheeks and saw Hermione give him a little knowing smile out of the corner of his eye, which Ron mirrored.

A few hours later most of the family had migrated to Fred’s bed once he woke up, but Charlie was still stuck to Harry’s side.

“I meant what I said about not leaving your side until you’re better,” Charlie said looking at Harry before leaning down and kissing the top of his head.

“This may not be the best time to ask,” Harry said, feeling that blush crawl back onto his face, “but would you want to go out with me once I’m better? I know the signs you’re giving me all say yes but-”

“Harry, I’d love to. I thought that much was obvious.”

“It may be, but confirmation never hurts.”

Charlie chuckled at him. “I’ll not tease you this time since I’m pretty sure your concussion is helping keep you just a bit confused.”

A hand came up under Harry’s chin and moved his head up so he was looking directly into Charlie’s eyes. His lips met Harry’s and Harry felt his eyes slip closed at the feeling. He vaguely heard somebody in the background but that was immediately drowned out by the wild beating of his heart as Charlie’s kiss deepened just a little more before he pulled away. Harry just looked at Charlie in a daze.

That was the best kiss he’d ever had.

Apparently the “somebody” he’d heard in the background was Mrs. Weasley who’d happened to look over at Harry’s bed and see Charlie kiss him. Ron and Hermione had sort of figured out there was something going on between them, but nobody else seemed to have yet. At Mrs. Weasley’s surprised noise, the rest of the family apparently looked over because when Harry and Charlie looked up, they were met with multiple pairs of eyes staring at them.

At least the family already knew about the relationship.
