Today was a particularly sunny day, not a cloud in sight. It was warm, but not too much that he’d be sweating. A perfect day to be outdoors he’d say.
Wifies looked around his surroundings. There were all kinds of flowers, notably pink roses. How romantic, he does wonder if she picked this park on purpose.
Overall, he’d describe this place as incredibly beautiful, like something he’d see on pinterest.
He sat at the fountain that Parrot mentioned. He took his phone out and read the time. 12:50, he was early. A habit that he had formed ever since he started dating Parrot. He noticed that he disliked keeping people waiting, especially not her.
It didn’t take long for her to arrive. Carrying a big basket around her arm as she walked over. She wore a white dress decorated with pink floral patterns and bows, topped off with short puffy sleeves. She looked gorgeous, she always does.
Wifies stood up and gave her a small wave. “Hey.”
Parrot kissed his lips softly as a greeting, hers didn’t linger long as she opted to pull away quite quickly. “Hi.”
He gestures at the basket she was holding. “What’s this for?”
Parrot uses her free hand to take Wifies’ into hers as she tugs him along. She didn’t pull hard, just enough force to get him to move but not enough for it to hurt.
“You’ll see. I’m gonna show you a nice spot first.”
Wifies smiles as he follows Parrot. They went through arches adorned with flowers, and he took in the scenery as he walked. Though, his eyes would fall back onto the girl in front of him. The pretty, kind, and amazing girl that he’s lucky enough to call his.
Eventually, they reached a spot under the tree. The shade cooled them down from the sunshine that beamed at them. She sets the basket down on the floor.
She lays a blanket on the grass, then sat down and patted a spot next to her for Wifies to do the same. He complied immediately.
She takes the containers of food from the basket and sets them out with help from Wifies, there are sandwiches, cut fruits and even cake as a dessert. All of them are homemade.
“How long did it take you to make all this?” Wifies asks, stunned.
“Not that long actually, maybe like an hour. My mom made the cake.”
She hands one half of the sandwich to him and takes the other half. The bread is soft, laced with strawberry jam. It tastes like love and care, despite its simpleness.
“So, how have you been?”
“I’ve been okay, better than before.” Parrot lets out a small smile as reassurance. It’s genuine, not the type she’d plaster on to pretend like everything’s fine.
That’s good to hear. Wifies didn’t exactly enjoy seeing his girlfriend so upset, it hurt him to watch her cry like that last time.
“What about you?” She adds.
“I’m fine. I’ve mostly been staying home these days, unless I’m going to school.”
“Then it was about time someone made you see sunlight. I hope you haven’t been holed up in your room with all the blinds down.” Parrot joked as she leaned towards him.
Wifies giggled. “I have been seeing you. You’re the light of my life so it counts.”
“Bro, that’s gotta be one of the corniest things you’ve ever said to me.” Parrot rolls her eyes affectionately with a grin.
He meant it though, even if it sounded silly. She brightens his day just by being around, like a shining star in the darkest of the night sky.
Wifies finishes his sandwich before speaking again. “You love me.”
She does, more than anything. “Yeah, yeah I do.”
Parrot had brought a collection of summer fruits, mangoes, strawberries, watermelons and peaches. Perfect for the current season and weather.
She poked a piece of mango with her fork, then brought it up to Wifies’ face. “Open up.”
So he does. “Sweet, just like you.”
Parrot blinked at the familiarity of that sentence. “You said the exact same thing on our first date.”
“Oh yeah, I did. That was.. what, two months ago now? Some things never change do they?”
“You’re so stupid.” Parrot playfully says, she could feel herself blushing. She plants a light kiss on his cheek.
They finished the food a bit after, the containers were put back into the basket but the blanket stayed out.
“This is nice.” Parrot quietly murmurs as she lays her head onto Wifies’ shoulder.
He runs his fingers through her hair, gently brushing her curls out. It feels soft against his hand.
“Your hair’s gotten longer.” He observes.
She leans into the touch. “I’ve been trying to grow it out.”
“It looks nice, suits you.” It wasn’t a compliment to fluster her, or to tease. It was sincere.
They stayed like this for a while. Enjoying each other’s company in a comfortable silence. Neither felt the need to fill it, they were content just the way it was.
Eventually, Parrot lifted her head up. “Wanna go on a walk?”
Who was Wifies to deny her? Not that it was a bad suggestion anyway.
“Sure.”
They folded the blanket together, then put it back into the basket. Wifies offered to carry the basket, insisting that he should, considering the effort Parrot had put in to set all this up.
She had declined at first, claiming that it was really no trouble. She ended up giving in, it was his proposal after all.
“Heavy?” She inquires.
Wifies shakes his head. “Not really, it was probably much heavier when you were carrying it earlier.”
“Yeah, all the food being gone would’ve made it a lot less heavier.” Parrot takes his free hand into hers. “Come on, I’ve got something else to show you.” She adds.
“Lead the way, darling.”
Parrot could feel her cheeks heat up again. The pet name was said so casually yet it brings a warm fuzzy feeling to her. She doesn’t dislike it though, the opposite in fact.
They reach their destination soon after. In front of them was a sea of colourful and vibrant flowers of all kinds.
“Here we are.” Parrot beamed at him. “It’s pretty, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, do you mind if I took a photo of you right now?” He takes his phone out of his pocket and holds it up.
The question caught her off guard for a second but she nodded in response. “Okay, sure.”
“You know, I might make this my lockscreen.”
Parrot peeks over to look at the picture. “I don’t know if you’d want to look at me every time you use your phone.”
Wifies grins at her. “I do.”
He is absolutely smitten with Parrot, he will never be ashamed to admit that fact.
“You’re unbelievable.” There was no real annoyance in her voice, just fondness.
And maybe, Parrot is the same with him. Head over heels for a guy that adores her more than anything, she’ll happily return the favour.
“Love you too.” He presses a soft kiss onto her cheek.
The pair walked around the field, hand in hand.
“Look, snapdragons! Your favourite.” Parrot’s thumb lightly grazed over the petals.
She lets go of the petal and turns to Wifies. “You know, snapdragons tend to symbolise grace and strength, they’re seen as resilient because of their ability to grow in harsh environments.” Her voice had a soft edge to it as she explained the meaning.
Wifies nods in response. He wasn’t the most knowledgeable about floral symbolism but the flower did remind him of Parrot in a way. She’s strong even in the toughest of situations, calm in the face of adversity.
They continued on, he would occasionally crack a dumb joke that would make her burst into a fit of giggles.
“Oh, yellow dandelions. I know you really like them.” Wifies points out. “Soo, what’s the symbolism behind them?”
“Growth, hope and healing. It’s also associated with happiness and joy given its bright yellow colour.”
After a while, they realised it was getting late and needed to go home.
Parrot looked at him head on and smiled. “Thank you for doing this with me.”
He smiled back. “Of course, anytime. I love being around you.”
“I know, me too.”
He kissed her for one last time before heading their separate ways.
Today was fun, perfect even. A picnic, a flowerfield and Parrot. Wifies wouldn’t want to change anything at all.
