Chapter Text
The Luthor family was famous for their wealth and power, but nobody knew the dark truth about them. Underneath the shiny surface of Lex Luthor and his family, there was a hidden history of skilled killers. These killers were trained in secret to carry out missions perfectly, leaving no clues behind. Lena Luthor, the most mysterious of them all, had taken on her family's role. She was known as a ghost, an assassin whose work was flawless. Her targets, important people, would disappear without a trace. It was like they had vanished into thin air, with no bodies, no blood, and no witnesses.
But Lena's life as an assassin was more than just a job. It was a dark gift from her family, something she couldn't escape. While she seemed to be a successful businesswoman and helper, there was a hidden truth: Lena Luthor was dangerous. The funny thing was, her heart wasn't as cold as people thought. Sometimes, she would wonder if she was becoming like the bad guys she was hired to take down.
Still, she did her job. She was careful, smart, and never left any evidence behind. It was only when a new mission came up, one that would require her to kill Alex Danvers, that things started to change.
---
Lena sat alone in her office at L-Corp, looking out at the city. She glanced at the file in front of her.
“Alex Danvers,” she muttered. “This is complicated.”
Alex, the brave sister of Supergirl, wasn't someone to be taken lightly. She was a tough agent who could handle anything. But Lena wasn't one to back down. Her instructions were clear: kill Alex Danvers. No questions asked.
The thought of killing Alex made Lena feel uneasy, but there was no time for hesitation in her work. This wasn't personal. This was business.
She poured herself a glass of whiskey and took a sip. Her mind wandered to unexpected thoughts. She had spent a lot of time with Alex's sister, Kara, lately. Supergirl. The Kryptonian hero. Kara had a way of making people feel good, and she had gotten under Lena's skin. Lena had tried to keep her distance, but Kara's kindness and hope had worn down Lena's defenses. And in those quiet moments when they talked, Lena felt something she didn't want to feel. Attraction.
Attraction to the woman who was the very person she had to destroy.
---
Kara Danvers, meanwhile, didn't know about the darkness around her friend Lena. She had always been a bit cautious, but she had grown to trust Lena. They had shared laughter and support, things Kara hadn't thought she'd find in someone like Lena. She knew Lena came from a family of criminals, but she didn't think Lena was like them. She was different, Kara thought. She had to be.
One evening, after work, Kara was at the DEO, chatting with Alex. But her mind wasn't really on the mission. Her thoughts kept going back to Lena : her intelligence, her wit, the way she could challenge Kara's ideas. There was an undeniable attraction there, but Kara didn't dare acknowledge it. After all, Lena was an ally, a friend. And besides, who could consider being with someone who had so many secrets?
But Kara couldn't shake the feeling. That pull. It wasn't just friendship.
---
The night came, and the mission was set. Lena had been given the details. Alex Danvers would be at a gala, an easy target in a crowd. A clean shot, no witnesses. It would be simple.
Lena prepared herself. She wore a black suit and made her way to the gala, her heart heavy with uncertainty. She tried to ignore the feeling that something wasn't right, but it wouldn't go away. She couldn't understand it. Why did this mission feel so different from all the others?
Her phone buzzed. It was a text from her boss:
“Make it quick, Lena. No mistakes.”
Lena's jaw tightened. She stepped into the shadows and looked at the crowd. There was Alex, she was standing near the bar, looking like the professional she was. Lena felt a pang of guilt.
But her target wasn't the only person there. Kara was there too, talking to some important people. And it was then that Lena noticed something, something she hadn't fully recognized until now. Kara was radiant. She looked out of place among the high-society types, but that only made her stand out more. She was the light in this dark world, and for a moment, Lena found herself mesmerized.
She couldn't kill Alex. Not with Kara looking on, not when she felt this way. She could feel the attraction pulling her toward Kara, as if fate had placed them in the same room for a reason.
---
In a quieter corner of the gala, Alex finally saw Lena. She smiled and waved her over. “Lena! Glad you could make it,” she called out.
Lena forced a smile, trying to remain composed. “Of course, Alex. Wouldn't miss it.”
As Lena walked over, her eyes lingered for a moment on Kara, who was now looking directly at her. It was almost as if Kara could sense something was wrong, something she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Before Lena could fully process her thoughts, Alex leaned in closer. “You’re not thinking about running off early, are you?” Alex teased.
Lena hesitated. “No, of course not. I’m just… not much of a party person.”
Just then, Kara's voice rang out, cutting through the conversation. “Lena, can we talk for a second?”
Lena turned to face her, her heart racing as she walked toward Kara, who had excused herself from the group. Kara's eyes were filled with concern, but there was something else there too—a flicker of something more personal.
“Kara, I—” Lena began, but Kara stopped her.
“You’ve been distant lately,” Kara said softly. “Is everything okay?”
Lena felt a cold sweat form on the back of her neck. She couldn't lie. “I’ve… I’ve been under a lot of pressure, Kara.”
Kara studied her, her expression softening. “If you ever need to talk, I’m here, you know?”
Lena could see the sincerity in Kara's eyes. She felt a lump form in her throat, but before she could say anything more, her boss's voice echoed in her mind: “No mistakes. Complete the mission.”
Lena turned her gaze to the balcony, where Alex was still talking to the others, unaware of the storm swirling in Lena’s chest. She had different way to kill her. Poisoning her drink, pushing her accidentally or simply discreetly stabbed her.
Lena's world was caught in a paradox. On one side, she had a job to do, one that would take Alex out of the equation. On the other, she had this pull toward Kara, a desire she couldn't ignore.
Her fingers clenched into fists. She didn't know how long she could keep living this double life.
“I have to go,” Lena said softly, her voice trembling just a little.
Kara stepped closer, her brow furrowing. “Lena, wait—”
But Lena was already moving away, her heart heavy, her mind torn between the woman she was sent to kill and the woman she didn't know how to resist.
---
The mission, however, would not be so simple. There was no clean escape, no smooth way out of this double-edged situation. And by the end of the night, Lena would be forced to face a decision that could change everything.
Could she go through with it? Could she kill Alex Danvers without losing herself? Or would Kara Danvers be the one to save her from the darkness once and for all?
The clock was ticking.
---
Lena Luthor was a true professional. She had been trained in the toughest conditions, where feelings were seen as weaknesses. Her family, especially her mother, taught her to be cold, ruthless, and always in control. It was in her blood, a part of who she was. She didn't feel joy, pain, or even guilt. When she took a life, it was just a job, simple and efficient.
As Lena watched the crowded gala from the shadows, she kept a close eye on Alex Danvers. Alex was unaware, chatting and drinking, but Lena knew she was just moments away from being eliminated. This was Lena's mission, and she didn't hesitate.
Killing Alex Danvers wasn't a big deal for Lena. She had killed worse people, criminals, corrupt politicians, and business rivals. They were all just targets to her, obstacles to remove. Alex was no different.
Lena focused on her target, planning the perfect angle. She would use the crowd to her advantage, moving in and out like a shadow. No one would even know what hit them. The thought almost made her smile. Killing was satisfying and addictive for her, filling the void she always felt.
But then, as her finger hovered over the trigger, something stopped her. A voice. Kara's voice.
“Lena.”
Her heart skipped a beat. She knew it was Kara without even looking. Kara's voice had a way of affecting her, pulling her in a way she couldn't control. Kara was different, the one person who could break through Lena's walls.
Lena hesitated, her hand twitching. Alex was still in her line of sight, unaware. But Kara's presence changed everything. The tension was thick, and Lena wondered why she hadn't already killed Alex. It was simple, clean, and what she did best.
But Kara made things complicated.
---
Kara approached Lena slowly, sensing the shift in her energy. Lena's usual coldness was gone, replaced by something more vulnerable. Kara could feel it—the invisible line between them, and she crossed it.
“Are you okay?” Kara asked softly, her voice concerned. She stood close, trying to anchor Lena to something besides the icy path she had walked for so long. “You’ve been distant lately. I... I’m worried about you.”
Lena was caught off guard. She had been so focused on the mission that she hadn't realized how much Kara had gotten under her skin.
She knew better than to get emotionally involved. Feelings were weaknesses, and love was dangerous. But here she was, in front of Kara, thinking about the crackling tension between them. She was used to being in control, but with Kara, everything was different.
“I’m fine,” Lena said, her voice colder than she intended. “I just have things to do.”
Kara’s eyes softened, searching Lena’s face for a truth she wasn’t sure Lena was willing to share. “Lena, please... I know something’s wrong. You don’t have to do this alone. You don’t have to push people away.”
Lena felt a lump form in her throat. Kara's concern, the way she always reached out, even when Lena pulled back... it was maddening. Lena had never let anyone get this close. She had always been the one in control, emotionally distant. But Kara had slipped under her guard without Lena even realizing it.
For a moment, Lena’s resolve faltered. She could still kill Alex, make the perfect kill. But now, as Kara’s gaze held her, something inside of her stirred, a longing, a yearning she had never allowed herself to acknowledge.
Kara took a step closer, her hand brushing against Lena’s. The touch was brief, but it lingered in Lena’s mind like a spark in the dark. “Lena, I—” Kara started, but Lena cut her off, her voice tinged with something she couldn’t hide.
“I don’t need your pity,” Lena said quickly, but there was no bite in her words. It was more of a reflex, an automatic response to deflect what she didn’t know how to handle. “I don’t need anyone.”
But it was a lie, and they both knew it.
Kara’s eyes searched hers, and in that moment, Lena felt exposed. As much as she hated to admit it, Kara had a way of making her feel things—things that didn’t belong in Lena’s world. The walls she had built around herself were cracking, bit by bit. And with every glance, every word, Kara was chiseling them away.
Lena wanted to pull away. She wanted to shut everything down. But the truth was, she couldn’t. Not with Kara.
For the first time in her life, Lena found herself conflicted. She was torn between the cold, distant woman she had always been and the one who wanted to feel something real. Kara represented everything Lena had been taught to avoid. Vulnerability, connection, love. And yet, there was something about Kara that made her want to abandon it all.
She wanted to kiss Kara. She wanted to feel her lips, her warmth, to taste the sweetness of a passion she had denied herself for far too long. She wanted to pull Kara close and lose herself in her. The thought sent a surge of heat through her veins, her pulse quickening as she tried to push it down, tried to ignore the way Kara’s presence seemed to affect her like nothing else.
But then there was the other side of her, the assassin side. The part of her that was cold, calculating, and unstoppable. That part whispered in her ear, telling her that Alex was still a target, that she couldn’t let her emotions interfere with the job.
“I could kill her now,” Lena thought, the thought crossing her mind like a fleeting shadow. She could end this. She could walk away from all the uncertainty, from Kara’s gaze that always seemed to pull her in like a magnet.
But then, the other side, the human side she fought back. What if Kara knew? What if Kara would never look at her the same way again? What if she hated her? What if she... what if she left?
Lena’s mind was a battlefield, and Kara was at the center of it.
Kara’s voice broke through the silence. “Lena,” she said again, this time with a softness that was almost too much for Lena to bear. “I’ll stay with you, if you need me. I’m not going anywhere.”
And in that moment, Lena realized the truth: She didn’t know what she wanted anymore.
All she knew was that for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to kill her target... or kiss the woman who had somehow stolen her heart without her even noticing.
I had that idea watching movies about assassins, corruption, mafia and all. It's just an idea. I don't know what to think, if I continue or not, I just wanted to share with you.
Chapter Text
Lena was in a tough spot. Her mind was a mess, and she was trying to hide the confusing feelings that had popped up suddenly. She wasn't supposed to feel anything, especially not for Kara. Kara Danvers was a hero, everything Lena wasn't. Kara was warm, open, and honest. Lena, on the other hand, had spent her whole life building walls, trying to be tough and detached, like a machine.
But Kara was different. She was the light that kept sneaking through the cracks in Lena's carefully built defenses.
Lena took a deep breath and tried to push the thoughts away. "I have to go home," she said abruptly, her voice colder than she meant. She needed to get away, to calm down, and regain control before her emotions got the better of her.
Kara's eyes softened, but she didn't let Lena push her away. "I'll go with you," Kara said, her voice full of sincerity. "I don't mind. You shouldn't be alone right now."
Lena froze for a moment, her chest tight. Why couldn't Kara just leave her alone? Why did she always have to make everything so... human? Kara's kindness and warmth made Lena feel vulnerable, and it was infuriating.
"I'm fine," Lena snapped, but it didn't sound convincing. Her eyes darted away from Kara's, unable to meet her gaze for too long. "You don't need to worry about me."
Kara, of course, wasn't fooled. She had seen through Lena's act from the start. “You don't have to do this alone,” she said gently, her words filled with quiet determination. "Let me stay with you, Lena. You deserve to have someone looking out for you."
Lena clenched her jaw, the familiar coldness creeping back in. But it didn't feel as comforting as it usually did. Kara had already chipped away at too much of her armor. Damn her.
Lena could feel the pull in her chest, the need to be close to Kara, to let herself get lost in her warmth. And yet, with every inch closer Kara got, Lena felt a surge of anger. Not at Kara, but at herself.
Why did Kara have to be so *adorable*? The way she said things with that hopeful, honest expression, the way she was always there when Lena felt like she might break… It made Lena's chest ache, and it pissed her off.
Lena's mind screamed at her to push Kara away, to focus on her job. She had a target to eliminate, and yet the idea of Kara accompanying her, of holding her and letting her in… God, no.
Kara had always been a light in Lena's dark world, and Lena didn't know what to do with that. The thought of holding Kara, of making her hers, filled her with a desperate longing. She wanted to pull Kara close, press her against her body, and feel her—just for a moment, just to escape the chaos inside her own head. It was maddening.
"Why do you have to be so… so good?" Lena muttered under her breath, barely loud enough for Kara to hear.
Kara blinked, her head tilting in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Lena turned away sharply, her voice tight. "You're so… sweet, so innocent, and it makes everything harder."
Kara took a small step toward her. "I don’t want to make things harder for you, Lena. I just want to be there for you. I’m not going anywhere."
There was an unspoken challenge in those words—Do something about it, Lena. Do something about how you feel.
Lena’s heart pounded in her chest. She knew what Kara meant. She always did. But for once, Lena didn’t want to ignore the truth anymore. She wanted Kara. But admitting that, letting herself feel it, was a terrifying thought. It went against everything Lena had ever been taught. You can’t have affection. You can’t have love. You can’t need someone.
But Kara was breaking her down, piece by piece.
“Stop…” Lena muttered under her breath, but it was a feeble attempt. Her emotions were boiling over. Every time Kara said something so genuine, so innocent, it made Lena want to pull her into her arms and do what she’d never allowed herself to dp, hold her, kiss her, take her and claim her in a way that would break all the rules.
"Stop what?" Kara asked, her voice soft, searching.
"Stop being so…" Lena hesitated, her voice thick with frustration. "Stop being so adorable. It’s making me… crazy."
The last word came out sharper than she intended. Lena’s hands balled into fists at her sides, the need to do something...anything, almost overwhelming. Her desire to keep the walls up was at war with a completely different, more dangerous urge.
Kara’s face lit up with a smile that made Lena’s pulse spike. “I’m adorable?” Kara teased lightly, her expression full of warmth and fondness.
“Don’t do that,” Lena said, her voice a mix of anger and longing. She turned toward Kara, her jaw clenched, but her eyes—her eyes gave away far more than she wanted them to. The intensity there, the way she was looking at Kara… it wasn’t the look of a cold assassin. It was the look of someone who wanted more. Much more.
Kara’s smile faltered just for a second, and it didn’t escape Lena’s notice. She could see it, that flicker of uncertainty in Kara’s eyes, as if she knew exactly what Lena was feeling.
And that made it worse.
Lena wanted to shout at her, to push her away and tell her to stop making her feel this way, to stop making her question everything.
But in truth, she didn’t want Kara to stop. Not really.
Lena felt like she was on the verge of losing control. Kara, the woman who was everything Lena couldn’t be open, unafraid to show her heart was wearing her down, and Lena didn’t know what to do with that.
"You're not like the others," Lena muttered, more to herself than to Kara.
Kara’s brow furrowed, her expression confused but still so caring. “What do you mean?”
Lena’s voice came out quieter now, and there was something almost wistful in her tone. “I’ve never had someone care about me like you do. Never.” She swallowed, trying to maintain her composure, but it was clear she was losing the battle.
Kara reached for her hand gently. “Lena…” she started, but her voice trailed off when she saw the conflict in Lena’s eyes.
Lena’s pulse quickened. She wanted to pull Kara close, kiss her until there was no more doubt, no more hesitation. She could almost feel the heat of Kara’s lips, taste the sweetness of the kiss she’d been denying herself.
But what if it all falls apart?
The idea of losing herself in Kara terrified Lena more than she could express. And yet… the thought of keeping her distance, of letting this opportunity slip away, was almost just as unbearable.
“I don’t want to feel this way,” Lena said, her voice tight, betraying the deep frustration she felt. "I don’t want to care."
Kara’s face softened, and she stepped closer, her hand brushing against Lena’s, her fingers warm. "But you do," she said softly, her eyes full of understanding. "And it’s okay, Lena. It’s okay to care. It’s okay to feel."
Lena’s chest tightened. Kara’s words were like a slow burn, melting away all the carefully constructed walls Lena had put up over the years.
It was almost more than she could bear. Almost.
But it wasn’t just about her. It was about Kara, too. And in that moment, Lena had a choice to make, whether to push her away, or to take the leap and let herself be vulnerable.
Kara's fingers gently wrapped around Lena's hand, warm and steady. The touch sent a jolt through Lena, but she didn't pull away. It was a small gesture, so simple, but it felt like the world was changing around them. Lena could feel Kara's heartbeat, steady and sure, and it somehow made her feel grounded in a way she couldn't explain. For the first time, Lena felt like she didn't have to be in control. The gentle pressure of Kara's hand was a comfort Lena hadn't realized she needed until that moment.
Then, without warning, Kara's voice filled the space between them. It started softly, barely a whisper, but the warmth in her tone wrapped around Lena like a cozy blanket. Kara was singing a quiet, tender melody. The song was something familiar, a tune Lena couldn't place but felt deeply in her chest. It wasn't perfect; it wasn't polished or rehearsed. It was just Kara. Simple. Honest.
Lena blinked, her heart doing something strange. She wasn't sure what to think at first. Her mind tried to analyze the situation, to break it down, but there was nothing to analyze. It was just Kara, letting her guard down, showing her soft side.
For a moment, Lena almost rolled her eyes. She wasn't a sentimental person. She was the daughter of Lillian Luthor, a ruthless CEO who taught her that feelings were just another weakness to exploit. Songs were for people like Kara, who believed in love and light and all the things Lena had long since dismissed as naive.
But when Lena looked at Kara, still singing with her head slightly tilted, something inside Lena softened. She didn't pull her hand away. Instead, she felt an unfamiliar sensation, a warmth, a connection that seemed to pulse through her veins with every word Kara sang. It was so genuine that Lena almost couldn't handle it. The walls she had so carefully built were crumbling with every note.
Kara's song was simple, but it resonated deeply. She was singing for Lena, though Lena knew Kara would never admit it. It wasn't about the song; it was about Kara, the person standing so close, so open and unafraid.
Lena made a face, half-sarcastic, half-baffled. A part of her wanted to laugh, to push away the sweetness of the moment and retreat into the cold distance she knew so well. This was crazy. This was ridiculous.
But that part of her, the one that had always kept a distance was quieter than ever before. And when Lena's eyes flickered down at their intertwined hands, something shifted inside her. She didn't want to let go. She didn't want to break the moment. She didn't want to be alone anymore.
So, slowly, almost imperceptibly, Lena leaned into Kara's body. The contact was almost too much, too real. She could feel Kara's warmth, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat, and it was like being wrapped in a safe cocoon she hadn't realized she needed. It felt... right.
The feeling was foreign. It made Lena feel exposed, vulnerable, and yet it was also a kind of peace she hadn't known she was missing.
Kara’s voice was a soft, soothing balm against the chaotic whirlwind inside Lena’s mind. And for a moment, Lena allowed herself to simply be there. She let the world slow down, forget about the mission, the targets, the cold, detached Luthor persona that had been her whole identity for so long. She let herself exist in this one simple, beautiful moment with Kara.
Kara didn’t seem to notice how Lena’s posture had softened, how Lena’s body had leaned just a little closer to hers. She was too lost in the song, too wrapped up in the beauty of the moment to realize that Lena had begun to surrender to her in a way she hadn’t thought possible.
When the song came to an end, there was a quiet stillness between them. Lena didn’t say anything. She didn’t have to. The silence spoke louder than words.
Kara looked at her then, her gaze searching Lena’s face for something maybe reassurance, maybe approval but Lena couldn’t bring herself to say anything. She didn’t want to ruin it. She didn’t want to break the connection that had formed so unexpectedly between them.
Instead, Lena simply let out a small, barely audible breath, as if coming out of a trance. She glanced at Kara, her eyes not quite meeting hers, but soft enough that Kara would know that something had changed.
"That was… nice," Lena said, her voice low and almost foreign to her own ears. It wasn’t just the words, it was the way she said them. There was no sarcasm, no cold edge. Just the truth, as uncomfortable as it was for her to admit.
Kara’s face lit up at the compliment, her eyes bright with genuine warmth. "I’m glad you liked it," she said, still holding Lena’s hand.
Lena could feel the heat in her own cheeks. How did she do that? How did Kara make her feel this way, this raw, exposed, human way that made her want to bury herself in the silence and the warmth of Kara’s touch and never leave?
Lena couldn’t stay this vulnerable. She knew that. The assassin, the cold, calculating woman who had lived her life in shadows, couldn’t afford to lose control. But Kara... Kara made it so damn hard.
Lena’s thumb moved over Kara’s hand, the movement almost unconscious as she tried to process everything inside her. Her mind was a tangled mess of desire, confusion, and guilt, but her heart...her heart had started to open in a way it never had before.
The two of them stood there, hand in hand, leaning into one another in the quiet aftermath of the song. The noise of the world outside, the chaos, the targets, everything felt like it was far away for a fleeting moment. Lena, for once in her life, didn’t feel like she had to fight her feelings, even though the fight within her was far from over.
And in that soft, private moment, there was something more powerful than Lena had ever expected: the simple truth that with Kara, she might finally be able to be herself even if it scared her to death.
Lena is an assassin and her mission was to kill Kara's sister but she couldn't because of Kara.
Chapter Text
Lena's mind was still racing as the elevator doors closed, and the soft hum of the machine filled the air. She barely noticed Kara standing next to her in the big lift. Kara's presence made the silence feel warm. Kara's hand was holding Lena's, and it felt so nice and right, almost strange to Lena, who had spent years alone and focused on her goals.
Her penthouse was big and empty, with smooth floors, high ceilings, and big windows showing the city far below. The lights were soft as Lena opened the door, but something felt different tonight. The calm Kara brought stayed with Lena all the way home.
Lena hadn't planned to invite Kara inside. She never had anyone over, except for work or family. Her home was a place to hide from the world.
But now, as Kara followed her in, Lena opened the door without thinking twice.
"I didn't think I'd be here," Kara said, her voice a bit nervous but still warm. She looked around the room, not amazed by the fancy things, but like she was feeling the quiet Lena usually liked.
"You didn't have to come in," Lena said, her voice unsure, but she didn't close the door.
"I wanted to," Kara said, and her words felt true.
Lena stood by the door, looking at the floor, then up at Kara. "Are you sure you want to be here?" she asked, her voice showing a bit of something she wasn't ready to face. She wasn't sure what she was asking if Kara really wanted to be in her life or if Kara even knew what she was getting into.
Kara had no doubt. "Yes," she said, and Lena felt something tighten in her chest, like she was holding something fragile and precious.
Lena's fingers moved, her hand on the doorframe. She didn't know how to explain what was happening. The truth was, she had never wanted someone like this before. Kara was something she didn't understand, and yet here she was, waiting for Lena to decide.
But all Lena could think about was what she should be doing instead, her target, Alex Danvers.
Her mind snapped back to reality. She had been so caught up in Kara's touch and the soft moment between them that she forgot why she was there. She wasn't supposed to be here.
Kara shouldn't be here.
The words felt like an anchor, pulling her back to the mission that had been weighing on her since she came to the party. Alex Danvers. The job she was still supposed to do.
And now, here she was, inviting the sister of her target into her home. What the hell was wrong with her?
Lena's mind raced, each thought more chaotic than the last. She was the Luthor heir, the daughter of a tough woman who would never allow such a moment of weakness. Her family built their empire on control and power. She had always been able to do her job without getting close to people.
But in one evening, everything changed. She invited Kara inside. She let her guard down. She felt.
Lena was always in control. But with Kara, she wasn't.
Kara's gaze softened as she watched Lena, conflicted. "Lena," she said gently, "I can leave if this is too much. I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
Lena's lips parted as she looked at Kara, her mind screaming at her to stop. To push her away before things went too far. But she didn't. Instead, she found herself stepping forward, her body moving on its own. What am I doing?
“No.” Lena’s voice was firm, but there was something unsteady about it. She didn’t want Kara to leave, but more than that, she didn’t want to push her away. There was a truth here, something deeper than all the thoughts spinning in her head. She needed Kara close, even if it didn’t make sense. Even if she was about to destroy everything she had worked so hard to build.
She was torn between the cold assassin she had been molded into and the woman who wanted something more—wanted someone to share this life with. And Kara? Kara was everything she had been taught to avoid, but everything she now realized she craved.
“Lena…” Kara said softly, taking another step toward her. “Are you alright? You seem… distant. I don’t want to make things harder for you.”
Lena swallowed, her gaze flickering toward the windows, looking out over the city. The view was breathtaking, so many lights, so many lives, so much noise but it felt emptier than ever. The city she had conquered, the empire her family had built... none of it mattered in this moment. Not when her thoughts were consumed by Alex Danvers and the unfinished task at hand.
Her hand clenched into a fist at her side as she thought about the woman she was supposed to kill—Alex Danvers, the woman who had become a thorn in her side, who had stood in her way for far too long. I should have already done it.
Lena blinked rapidly, trying to shake the thought. Focus.
“I'm fine,” she said finally, her voice more controlled, though the strain behind the words was unmistakable. “It’s just... I’ve got a lot on my mind. This is all... unexpected.”
Kara’s gaze softened even further, her hand moving gently toward Lena’s arm, as if offering silent comfort. “I’m here for you, Lena. If you need to talk about anything... or if you need space, I understand. You don’t have to be alone in this.”
Lena felt the pressure of Kara’s hand on her skin, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. She wanted to pull Kara close, to forget about everything else. But that was the last thing she could do. I can’t afford to get distracted.
But as the seconds ticked by, Lena felt a strange calm wash over her. Perhaps it was the softness in Kara’s eyes, or the way she always knew how to make Lena feel like she wasn’t alone in this chaotic world. Maybe it was just the weight of everything she had been carrying for so long, finally breaking open, but whatever it was, Lena couldn’t bring herself to push Kara away.
And deep down, part of her didn’t want to.
Instead, she nodded slowly, her voice quieter this time. "I... I just need a moment. You can stay. If you want."
Kara smiled, a warm, reassuring smile that made something inside Lena tighten. "I’d like that."
As the door clicked shut behind them, Lena stood there in the silence of her penthouse, feeling both closer and farther from her own truth than ever before. Kara was here. And for the first time in a long time, Lena didn’t know whether that was a blessing or a curse.
But in that moment, all she could think about was the quiet longing to simply stay...stay with Kara for just a little longer before she had to face the reality of what she was about to do.
Lena Luthor always felt proud of her control. She was good at staying calm under pressure, like a chess player thinking many moves ahead. She made careful choices and planned everything. There was no room for mistakes or impulsive actions.
But with Kara, everything changed. Lena usually kept her emotions in check, but Kara made her feel different. It was like a storm inside her, making her lose the calm she always had. Kara's warmth and light made Lena question everything she knew about herself.
That evening, Kara was in Lena's penthouse, and her presence was like a magnet pulling Lena to her. Every word and glance from Kara made Lena feel a strong pull. It wasn't just attraction; it was something deeper and more consuming.
Kara's hand rested gently on Lena's arm, and the touch sent waves of warmth through her. Lena should have moved away, but she couldn't. She had a mission and a job to do, but none of that mattered when Kara looked at her with trusting eyes and a sweet smile.
Lena felt drawn to Kara, the distance between them fading. Her mind raced, trying to find something to hold onto, but there was nothing. It was like being swept away by a strong desire, and for the first time, Lena didn't want to fight it.
Lena took a shaky breath, her chest tightening. She wasn't supposed to feel this way or want this. But her body didn't listen to her mind. Slowly, Lena closed the space between them. Her heart raced, and she could feel Kara's warmth like a flame consuming her.
Kara's eyes were wide with confusion and a hint of fear, but it was too late. Lena had already decided. Without thinking, Lena reached up and cupped Kara's face, pulling her closer. The action was so unlike her, so impulsive, that she almost didn't recognize herself.
Kara froze for a moment, her eyes flicking between Lena's lips and her eyes. Lena felt the weight of her decision, the magnitude of crossing a line she had kept for so long.
But before Kara could react, Lena closed the gap between them. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as if they were testing the waters. But it quickly became deeper and more urgent. Lena's grip tightened, and she tilted her head to deepen the kiss. Her lips brushed against Kara's, moving slowly at first, as if savoring the moment.
Kara didn't pull away. Instead, she leaned into the kiss, her lips parting with a sweetness that made Lena's heart skip a beat. The warmth of Kara's body and the softness of her lips made everything else in Lena's world disappear.
For that moment, Lena didn't care about her mission or the darkness she had spent her life cultivating. All she cared about was Kara and the way their lips moved together.
Lena's thoughts were a blur, too far gone to process anything beyond the feel of Kara's mouth on hers. It was like drowning in a feeling she had never allowed herself to experience, a desire she had buried for so long.
Kara's hands came up to Lena's chest, her fingers trembling as they slid along Lena's shirt, tugging her closer. Lena's heart pounded, not from fear or anxiety, but from passion and longing. It was reckless and dangerous, everything Lena wasn't supposed to be, but she didn't care.
When they finally pulled away, both breathless and flushed, Lena rested her forehead against Kara's, trying to regain control. But it was slipping away like sand.
Kara's breath was quick, her chest rising and falling as she struggled to catch her breath. "Lena," she whispered, her voice shaky but full of wonder. "What are we doing?"
Lena's heart ached at the sound of Kara's voice. She opened her eyes and found Kara staring at her with an intensity that made her insides tighten.
"I… I don't know," Lena admitted, her voice barely audible. She couldn't think or form coherent thoughts. All she could think about was the feel of Kara in her arms and how this moment felt like a dream she had never allowed herself to have.
Kara's gaze softened, but there was still uncertainty in her eyes. "Lena, I—"
Lena cut her off, not wanting to hear it. "Don't," she whispered, her voice hoarse and desperate. "Don't talk. Just… let me be with you."
Kara's lips parted, but she didn't protest. Instead, she leaned in again, pressing her lips to Lena's with more urgency and passion than before. The kiss was hungry, speaking of everything they had kept inside for too long.
Lena didn't know where this was going or what it meant for them. But for the first time, she didn't care. All that mattered was that Kara was there, in her arms, and for a few precious moments, Lena could forget about her past and her mission. She could forget everything except the way Kara made her feel alive and whole. And for Lena, that was everything.
Chapter Text
Lena had never felt like this before. The warmth, the vulnerability, the sensation of being utterly present and it was all so overwhelming, yet somehow right. As her hands traced the contours of Kara’s back, she felt a sense of connection she couldn’t explain, a quiet understanding between them, as if they had both been waiting for this moment without even realizing it.
"Kara," Lena whispered, her voice barely audible. "I've never felt this way before."
Kara’s lips were gentle at first, but they became more insistent, more urgent as the world around them blurred. "Neither have I, Lena," Kara replied, her voice trembling with emotion. "It's like everything else just fades away when I'm with you."
Lena could feel the soft pulse of Kara’s heartbeat, quick and frantic against her chest, and the way her hands moved in response, as though they were finally able to touch, to hold, to claim what had been unspoken between them for so long.
"I always thought I needed to be in control," Lena admitted, her voice soft. "But here, with you, I don't have to be. I don't have to think about the risks or what might happen next."
Kara cupped Lena’s face, her touch so tender, her gaze so open, so full of trust. "You don't have to be anything but yourself, Lena. Not with me."
Lena felt her heart break a little bit at the intensity in Kara’s eyes, the way she seemed to see through every wall Lena had ever built. "It's scary, Kara. But it also makes me want to pull you closer, to never let go."
In the quiet moments between soft kisses, Lena felt her own hesitation start to slip away, like sand through her fingers. "I realize how much I've been starving for this, the closeness, the intimacy. The feeling of being seen. Truly seen."
And with Kara, for the first time in her life, Lena felt whole. "You make me feel whole, Kara. Like all the pieces of me that were broken are finally coming together."
As they slowly fell into a rhythm, Lena could feel her entire body responding to Kara’s touch, every part of her, even the darkest corners, lit up in ways she couldn’t even describe. "It's like my soul has been waiting for this connection, this release, this moment of complete surrender."
Kara kissed her again, this time slower, softer, as though she was savoring the moment, the intimacy of it. "I feel it too, Lena. Like we were always meant to find each other."
Lena could feel her pulse steadying, matching Kara’s in a quiet, peaceful harmony. "I understand what it means to truly live now. To feel every touch, every breath, every heartbeat. With you, everything feels more intense, more alive."
Kara’s eyes met hers, filled with a depth of emotion that made Lena’s heart race. "You make me feel alive too, Lena. Like we're the only two people in the world, and nothing else matters."
And in that moment, Lena realized she wasn’t just alive, she was free. "I'm free, Kara. Free from the weight of my past, free from the expectations and responsibilities that have held me captive. And most of all, free from the chains I wrapped around my heart."
When it was over, and they lay together, tangled in each other’s arms, Lena closed her eyes and simply breathed. "The world outside feels different now. Like it's not rushing past me anymore. Like I'm not alone in the chaos."
Kara’s voice was soft, almost a whisper. "You're not alone, Lena. I'm here. And I always will be."
There was no need for words. No need to explain what had just happened. They both knew. They both understood. It was as if the whole world had paused for a moment, just to let them be.
And as they lay there, in the stillness of the night, Lena allowed herself to imagine a future, one that was no longer defined by the walls she had built around herself, or the cold distance she had maintained for so long. "A future with you, Kara. Where I can let myself feel more than just the rush of adrenaline that has always driven my decisions."
Kara smiled, her eyes shining with a mix of hope and love. "I like the sound of that, Lena. A future where we can be truly free, truly ourselves, and truly together."
Lena took a deep breath, feeling a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in years. "And that, more than anything, is the most alive I have ever felt."
Lena lay there in the dimly lit aftermath, Kara still nestled against her, the warmth of her body seeping into Lena’s skin like a gentle reminder of what had just passed between them. The silence was almost suffocating now, the weight of what she had done hanging over her like a dark cloud.
"Kara," Lena whispered, her voice barely audible. "I've never felt this way before."
Kara’s eyes fluttered open, meeting Lena’s gaze with a soft, trusting look. "What do you mean, Lena?"
Lena hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. "I mean... I never expected to feel this way. About anyone. Especially not about you."
Kara propped herself up on one elbow, her hand resting gently on Lena’s chest. "Why not me? What makes me different?"
Lena took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "Because you're not just anyone, Kara. You're... you're special. And I'm not supposed to feel this way. I'm not supposed to care. Not like this."
Kara’s brow furrowed slightly, a hint of concern in her eyes. "Why not? What's stopping you from caring, Lena?"
Lena looked away, her mind racing with the weight of her secrets. "It's complicated, Kara. I have a past, a life... it's not something I can just ignore. And it's not something I can share with you."
Kara’s hand moved to cup Lena’s cheek, her touch gentle and reassuring. "You don’t have to hide from me, Lena. Whatever it is, we can face it together."
Lena felt a lump form in her throat, but she swallowed it down, blinking rapidly to clear the sudden wave of emotion that threatened to overwhelm her. "I wish it were that simple, Kara. But it's not. I have to do things, make choices... choices that will hurt people. People like you."
Kara’s eyes softened, a mix of concern and understanding in her gaze. "Everyone has a past, Lena. You’re not defined by what you’ve done. You’re defined by what you choose to do now. And I... I don’t want you to feel like you have to be alone with this."
Lena felt her chest tighten as she looked down at Kara, her words cutting through her like a knife. How could she explain to Kara that the worst part of her past was right here, lying beside her? How could she tell her that the one thing she wanted more than anything, her love, her connection to Kara was also the very thing that was leading her to destroy everything she had come to care about?
"I’m scared, Kara," Lena confessed, her voice quiet, raw. "Scared of what I’ve become. Scared of what this could mean for you."
Kara smiled softly, her thumb brushing over Lena’s hand in a reassuring gesture. "We’ll figure it out. Together. Whatever it is."
Lena couldn’t speak. She couldn’t bring herself to say the words that were swirling in her mind—I have to kill your sister.
But as she lay there, holding Kara close, she knew it wasn’t just about the mission anymore. It was about everything. And the more she felt for Kara, the harder it would be to let go of the one thing that had ever made her feel truly alive.
"And what if... what if I can't?" Lena finally managed to whisper, her voice trembling with the weight of her fears. "What if I can't figure it out? What if I hurt you, Kara? What if I destroy everything?"
Kara’s eyes filled with a depth of emotion that made Lena’s heart race. "You won’t, Lena. Not if you care about me as much as I think you do. And I believe you do. I can see it in your eyes, feel it in your touch. You’re not just a Luthor, Lena. You’re so much more than that."
Lena felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes, but she blinked them away, determined to stay strong. "I wish I could believe that, Kara. I wish I could believe that there’s a future for us, that we can be together without all the darkness catching up to us."
Kara leaned in, her forehead resting against Lena’s. "We can, Lena. We can find a way. As long as we have each other, we can face anything. Even the darkest parts of your past."
Lena closed her eyes, trying to hold onto the hope in Kara’s words, but the weight of her mission, the reality of what she had to do, pressed down on her like a physical force. "I don’t know if I can, Kara. I don’t know if I can let go of the person I’ve become, the things I’ve done."
Kara pulled back slightly, her eyes searching Lena’s face. "Then let me help you, Lena. Let me be a part of your journey, whatever that looks like. I’m here for you, always."
Lena felt a wave of emotion crash over her, a mix of love, fear, and desperation. She reached up, cupping Kara’s face in her hands, her thumbs brushing gently over her cheeks. "You don’t know what you’re asking, Kara. You don’t know the darkness I carry."
Kara covered Lena’s hands with her own, holding them tightly against her face. "I don’t need to know, Lena. I just need to know you. All of you. The good, the bad, the dark, the light. I want all of it."
Lena felt a tear escape, trailing down her cheek as she looked into Kara’s eyes, seeing her own reflection staring back at her. "I’m falling for you, Kara. Hard. And it scares me more than anything. Because I know that when the truth comes out, when you find out who I really am, what I’ve done... it will destroy you. And I can’t live with that."
Kara’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but her voice was steady and sure. "Then don’t let it destroy us, Lena. Fight for us. Fight for what we have, for what we could be. Together."
Lena took a deep, shaky breath, feeling the weight of Kara’s words settle over her. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. She knew there would be pain, heartache, and maybe even loss. But in that moment, holding Kara close, she also knew that she couldn’t let go. Not without a fight.
"Okay, Kara," Lena whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Okay. We’ll figure it out. Together."
And as they lay there, entwined in each other’s arms, Lena allowed herself to believe, just for a moment, that maybe, just maybe, there was a future for them after all. A future where love could conquer even the darkest of pasts.
Chapter Text
Lena Luthor wasn't used to letting her emotions control her. It wasn't that she didn't have them; she felt them, always lurking beneath the surface. But Lena had spent her life learning to suppress them, to turn them into something she could use. Emotions were a weakness, and Lena couldn't afford that.
But Kara Danvers was different. Two days had passed since Lena had let herself fall for Kara, and now, every time Lena closed her eyes, she saw Kara's face, her warm smile, the trust in her eyes.
Kara was everything Lena had never allowed herself to have. She was light, hope, and life itself. And now, Lena felt the weight of her actions. She had to push Kara away. It was the only way. Lena knew who she was, what she did. She had a target, a job to do. Alex Danvers was still her mission, no matter how much Lena wanted to throw it all away for Kara.
Lena stood at her office window, staring out at the city. She had a part of herself that could separate the job from her personal life, but now, everything was tangled. A few hours ago, she had sent a message to Kara, asking her to come to LCorp. Kara had agreed, and now Lena felt the pressure building as she waited.
She knew this was a mistake, bringing Kara back into her life. But how could she resist? Every thought of Kara felt like a wound. She heard the soft knock at her door. Her breath caught. "Come in," she called, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
The door opened, and there was Kara, her golden hair catching the light. It was like a punch to Lena's gut. Kara didn't give her a chance to speak. "Hey," she said with a soft smile. "You said you wanted to talk? What's going on?"
Lena's heart skipped a beat. She hated how weak she felt around Kara. "It's nothing serious," Lena said, trying to put distance between them. "Just some business stuff. I thought you could help me with some reports."
Kara tilted her head, sensing the change in Lena's mood. "You don't sound like yourself," she observed, stepping closer. "Are you sure everything's okay?"
Lena swallowed hard. She didn't want to push Kara away, but she knew she had to. "I'm fine," she said, more forcefully this time, turning away. She needed space, control.
But Kara didn't leave. She followed Lena, her footsteps soft but determined. "Lena," she said gently, "I'm worried about you. You're pushing me away."
Lena felt a pang in her chest, something she didn't have the luxury of feeling. She should be happy Kara cared, but all Lena could think about was the danger Kara was in. The more she let her in, the more vulnerable Kara became.
Lena closed her eyes, willing herself to hold it together. "I can't do this, Kara," she said, her voice rough. "This...us...it can't happen. I don't deserve you. You deserve better."
Kara's expression faltered, but then she reached for Lena's hand. "You don't get to decide that for me," she said softly. "I decide who I want to be with. And I want to be with you, Lena."
Lena shook her head, trying to pull back, but Kara was too close. "Don't push me away," Kara pleaded. "I'm not going anywhere."
Lena's mind was racing. She couldn't let Kara stay, not with a target and a mission. But then, before she knew it, she found herself pulling Kara into her arms, kissing her desperately.
Kara responded immediately, her hands sliding up Lena's back. The kiss was hungry, urgent, as if they both knew their world was crumbling. Lena's hands gripped Kara's waist, pulling her closer, trying to erase the distance between them. The need, the desperation, it was overwhelming.
As the kiss deepened, Kara's hands moved to the hem of Lena's shirt, tugging it up to feel her skin. Lena gasped, and for a moment, she thought about stopping. But then Kara kissed her again, softer this time, and Lena couldn't resist.
The desire, the longing, everything Lena had suppressed was flooding to the surface. Without thinking, Lena spun them both around, guiding Kara toward the couch. There was no space left between them, no distance, no barriers.
And for the first time in a long time, Lena gave in. She kissed Kara slowly, savoring every moment, every touch. Kara's hands were everywhere, her skin warm against Lena's, and the way she looked at Lena, it was everything Lena had been longing for.
Lena's mind was a blur, and she couldn't focus on the consequences anymore. She just wanted this, with Kara, in this moment. And when they finally made love, it was slow and gentle, their connection undeniable, their hearts open to each other.
But even as they held each other afterward, Lena couldn't shake the feeling that this was a dangerous game. One that, no matter how much she tried to fight it, she was already losing. And in the back of her mind, the mission, the kill was still waiting.
Lena sat in the quiet that followed their shared intimacy, feeling the weight of her thoughts pressing down on her like a heavy blanket. Kara's warmth was still wrapped around her, but the truth of what Lena had done and what she was about to do was gnawing at her insides.
She had just let herself fall deeper into this forbidden connection with Kara, and now, the consequences were staring her straight in the face. The soft, rhythmic beat of Kara's heart against her ear was comforting, but the dissonance in Lena’s chest refused to quiet. She couldn't shake the knot of guilt that twisted tighter with every passing second.
Kara shifted, stretching out beneath Lena, still catching her breath. Her fingers absentmindedly played with Lena’s hair, and Lena closed her eyes for a moment, fighting the wave of conflicting emotions that threatened to drown her.
Kara looked up at her, her expression soft and content, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "You okay?" she asked, her voice full of concern, but it carried a sweetness that made Lena's heart ache even more. How can I do this to her?
Lena nodded, forcing a smile she knew didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I’m fine.” She paused, swallowing thickly as she gathered her thoughts. The words felt heavy on her tongue, like lead, but they were spilling out before she could stop them. “Kara… if something bad happened to your sister, Alex... what would you do?”
Kara’s hand stilled in her hair, and for the first time since they had kissed, Lena felt the coolness of her distance. The question hung between them like a shroud, a dark cloud that neither of them could escape.
Kara's eyes widened, her brow furrowing slightly in confusion. “What do you mean? Something bad...?” She searched Lena’s face, a sense of unease creeping into her expression.
Lena, unable to stop herself, pressed on. Her voice was low, almost trembling as she continued, “If something... irreversible happened to Alex, if she didn’t make it—what would happen to you?”
The words were out before she could stop them, and once they were, she immediately regretted it. She knew what the answer would be, she knew it. But hearing it from Kara’s lips would be like sealing her fate.
Kara’s gaze softened, but there was an edge to her voice as she spoke. “I—I’d be devastated, Lena. I can’t even imagine… losing her. She’s my sister, my family.” Her voice faltered, and her eyes briefly glanced away, as if she were trying to comprehend the idea of it.
Lena could feel her chest tightening. She already knew what Kara was about to say next, but it felt like a punch in the gut to hear it aloud.
“If something happened to Alex,” Kara continued quietly, her voice barely above a whisper, “it would... it would destroy me. I would never be the same. It would break me.” Her voice cracked slightly as the words escaped her, and her hand instinctively sought out Lena’s, gripping it tightly as if seeking reassurance, seeking comfort.
Lena’s heart ached at the sound of Kara’s voice breaking, the raw emotion seeping through every word. She knew this was coming, and yet it hit her like a wave crashing against the shore.
And then, almost as if it were impossible to hold back, Kara added in a voice barely audible, “I don’t know if I could keep going, if I lost her. It would kill me, Lena.”
The finality of her words hung in the air, and Lena's world seemed to freeze for a moment, her mind reeling with the truth of what she was about to do.
It will kill her.
Lena squeezed Kara’s hand, her throat tight. She had been ready to kill Alex for the sake of her mission, for the sake of the cold, calculated path she had chosen for herself. But hearing Kara’s words, feeling the weight of the devastation Kara would face, it felt like her world was cracking apart.
I would be the one to destroy her.
The realization hit her with such force that Lena's eyes closed, and she took in a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. She had never been this close to someone, not like this, not in a way that made her feel everything so sharply. She was so used to the distance, the coldness, but now? Now, it was like she was tied to Kara in a way she couldn’t escape.
She opened her eyes slowly, meeting Kara’s gaze, and found herself lost in the depth of those blue eyes...eyes that had trusted her, that had believed in her despite everything. And it was crushing, because Lena knew the truth. She knew the consequences of what would happen if Alex were gone.
The guilt was unbearable, suffocating.
“I didn’t mean to make you upset,” Kara whispered, her thumb brushing over the back of Lena’s hand in a comforting gesture. “I’m sorry. I just... I don’t know how I’d handle it. Losing Alex, losing my sister, it’s unthinkable.”
Lena didn’t know what to say. She wanted to apologize, to take the pain away, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t promise Kara anything because the truth was, Lena was standing at the edge of a precipice, and the only way forward was to fall. And if she fell, Kara would fall with her.
Lena closed her eyes and pulled Kara into her arms, the weight of everything pressing down on her chest. She tried to fight it, tried to pull back, but her body refused. She needed Kara in that moment, more than she’d ever needed anyone. And yet, every second they spent together made the inevitable seem more real, more painful.
“I’m sorry,” Lena whispered, her voice thick with regret. “I didn’t want to make you feel like that. But it’s all... so complicated. I don’t want to hurt you, Kara.”
Kara didn’t pull away. Instead, she held Lena tighter, pressing her cheek against the top of Lena’s head, breathing her in. “You’re not going to hurt me. Not on purpose. I trust you.”
Lena closed her eyes again, the weight of Kara’s words sinking deep into her chest. She trusts me.
It was a knife to her heart. Because every part of her wanted to tell Kara the truth. She wanted to scream it from the rooftops. She wanted to say, I’m the one who will destroy everything you love. I’m the one who will hurt you.
But she couldn’t. She couldn’t bear it.
Lena didn’t know how much longer she could keep lying to Kara. Every day that passed, the more she realized that the hardest thing in the world wouldn’t be taking out Alex. No, the hardest thing would be living with the aftermath, the hurt, the pain, and the loss she would cause.
And when Kara found out the truth when Kara learned that it was Lena who had destroyed everything she held dear, there would be no coming back from it. Kara would never forgive her. Lena would be the villain. The traitor. The one who shattered the heart of the woman she loved.
And Lena had no idea how she was supposed to live with that.
Lena’s heart was still pounding from the weight of their conversation, the complexity of the emotions pulling at her in all directions. She had never been in a situation like this, where every choice felt like it could destroy her or someone else. She had never been so exposed, so vulnerable. But with Kara, everything felt different, everything felt alive in a way that Lena hadn’t experienced before.
The soft brush of Kara’s lips against her forehead brought Lena out of her thoughts. The kiss was gentle, tender, and it sent a flutter through her chest. Kara pulled away, her blue eyes searching Lena’s face with that ever-present concern, the one Lena had grown to dread because it made her feel so human.
“I need to go,” Kara said quietly, her voice soft but filled with urgency. “There’s… a super problem. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Lena’s hand lingered on Kara’s arm, a silent plea to stay, to not leave her in this whirlwind of feelings and confusion. But she knew Kara had a responsibility. Kara was Supergirl, and when the world needed her, she couldn’t stay. Lena’s heart tightened at the thought, but she nodded.
“Of course. You have to go. But… Kara, if you're free tonight..." Lena’s voice faltered slightly, the words almost foreign on her tongue. "Maybe we could… continue what we started. We never really got the chance to—" she stopped, unsure how to finish the sentence without sounding desperate.
Kara’s eyes softened, and for a moment, Lena swore she saw a flicker of hesitation before Kara broke into a small, shy smile. “Yeah,” Kara said, her voice quieter now. “I’m free tonight.”
Before Lena could say another word, Kara’s face lit up with that familiar, playful glint. In the blink of an eye, Kara was already in her Supergirl suit, the transformation so fast it left Lena breathless. The air seemed to hum with the change, and for a second, Lena couldn’t help but marvel at how easily Kara could slip into her superhero persona. It was like flipping a switch, from the warm, loving woman Lena had come to care for to the fierce, unstoppable force that protected the world.
Kara landed back in front of Lena, looking a little sheepish. “Sorry, didn’t expect to have… this happen when I came over,” she said with a small, bashful laugh, her cheeks flushing slightly. She seemed almost embarrassed, and it only made Lena want her more.
Lena’s lips curled into a faint, teasing smile. “I wasn’t expecting it either,” she replied, her voice low and almost playful. But deep inside, the tension from earlier hadn’t quite dissipated. It was still there, swirling between them. The unspoken weight of everything they had shared and everything that could go wrong.
Kara looked down briefly, the heat in her face still evident, and then her gaze flicked back to Lena, her voice quieter now. “I just… I didn’t expect us to, you know…” She gestured vaguely, her eyes glinting with a shy curiosity that made Lena's pulse spike. “I didn’t expect to make love in your office.”
Lena blinked, feeling a flush of heat spread across her own cheeks. She wasn’t used to feeling shy, but there was something about Kara's honesty, her openness, that caught her off guard. Kara always wore her heart on her sleeve, and for a moment, Lena could only think of how different this was from everything she had ever known.
"I wasn't planning on it either," Lena admitted, a smirk tugging at her lips. "But plans change."
Kara chuckled softly, clearly embarrassed but also excited by the idea. "Well, I’m glad you don't mind," she said, her eyes mischievous as she leaned closer to Lena, her voice lowering, "But, um, we should probably be quieter next time."
Lena’s smile widened at the thought, her heart swelling with affection for the woman standing in front of her. “I’ll try to keep it quiet,” she teased, but there was a hint of something darker in her voice—a promise that things between them weren’t going to slow down. Not now. Not after everything they had shared.
Kara leaned in and kissed Lena again, this time slower, as if savoring the moment, like she wasn’t sure when they would have a chance to do this again. Lena felt every second of it, the tenderness, the longing, the fear that this could all fall apart, and yet, she couldn’t help but give herself over to it.
The kiss broke, and Kara pulled back slightly, her cheeks flushed but her eyes shining with something Lena had only seen glimpses of before—something that felt real. Something that felt like love.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Kara whispered. “I just… I need to go handle this. I don’t want to leave you hanging.”
Lena nodded, her hand reaching up to gently cup Kara’s cheek. Her thumb brushed over Kara's skin, feeling the softness there, and she couldn’t help but whisper, “Be safe, Kara. Please.”
“I will,” Kara promised, smiling softly. She hovered for a moment, her blue eyes locking with Lena’s, as if she wanted to say something more, but the moment passed.
Without another word, Kara took to the sky, disappearing through the office window in a blur of blue and red, leaving Lena standing there, her heart still racing.
Lena stood there for a few moments longer, her mind spinning. She had wanted distance, to keep herself safe, to keep Kara safe. But every time Kara came near, every time Kara’s warm, trusting presence filled the room, all of that seemed to vanish.
The game was shifting, and Lena couldn’t tell if she was winning or losing.
But what she knew for sure was that, no matter how much she tried to fight it, she was in too deep now.
She was in love with Kara.
And there was no way out.
Chapter Text
Lena leaned back in her chair, her fingers hovering over her phone as messages about Alex Danvers, her target, kept coming in. The messages were cold and impersonal, reminding her of her mission: to kill Alex and bring down the Danvers family. That was the plan, and she always followed it.
But today was different.
Each message made her heart feel heavier. She read the instructions, Alex's movements, and the perfect time to strike. The professional part of her, the Luthor part wanted to act quickly and kill. She had done it many times before. But this time, it felt wrong, like a trap she didn't want to fall into.
She looked at her phone, where the message was waiting. If she didn't kill Alex soon, someone else would, and they wouldn't care about the mess they made. Lena didn't want to be the one cleaning up that mess.
But then there was Kara.
When Lena saw a message from Kara, her thoughts softened. Kara's words, "I miss you" and "I’m looking forward to tonight," were like a breath of fresh air, cutting through the tension inside her. Kara's words were a promise, but they went against the cold reality Lena faced. She couldn't forget what she was trained to do.
Lena was Lena Luthor. If she didn't kill Alex, someone else would. That was the price of letting things go, the cost of weakness.
Lena ran a hand through her hair, taking a shaky breath. She couldn't have it both ways. She couldn't be torn between love and duty. She couldn't pretend this was just a game. Kara was real and everything Lena had never allowed herself to want, but she had found herself in Kara's arms. And now, there was no going back.
She didn't respond to the mission immediately but typed back to Kara instead. It wasn't like her to be impulsive, but in that moment, she couldn't think straight. She needed to hold onto something...anything that wasn't the darkness she was about to face.
Lena's fingers trembled slightly as she hit send. She knew she shouldn't be so emotional, but something about Kara made her feel alive in a way she never had before. Lena started to wonder if that feeling was enough to make her turn away from the mission.
But then she looked back at the messages about Alex. The cold, professional reminders. The job.
Lena felt a chill, a fear of what would happen if she didn't do it. What if I don't kill Alex? she thought, her heart racing. What if they come for me? What if they come for Kara?
The threat was real. In Lena's world, there was no room for hesitation or weakness. If Alex stayed alive, Lena would be compromised. Someone would come for her, and they wouldn't care about the consequences. They would get the job done, no matter what.
But then Kara's words echoed in her mind: "I miss you."
Lena closed her eyes, feeling the weight of her decision. She had always known that love and duty couldn't coexist. She had always known that this kind of softness would eventually break her. But she had never imagined this feeling, spreading through her like wildfire. She wasn't just falling for Kara; she had already fallen, and now she was stuck between two worlds.
A new message from Kara startled her: "I’ll be there soon. Be safe. I can’t wait to see you tonight."
Lena stared at the screen, her heart pounding. She needed to know what Kara would say if she knew the truth. Her fingers hovered over the screen, hesitating. She should be planning, making sure she wasn't caught off guard. But she couldn't focus. All she could think about was Kara's smile, the way Kara made her feel, and the way she had kissed her earlier, with so much passion. Kara had no idea who Lena really was, what she was capable of. But Lena had already let her in.
She knew that if Kara ever found out that Lena was behind the destruction of her family, there would be no coming back. Kara wouldn't forgive her. She would never forgive the woman who killed her sister.
Lena clenched her fist, her phone falling silent in her hand. She had to finish this. She had to make the choice. There was no room for hesitation.
But as she paced across the room, Kara's words kept pressing on her. She could feel Kara's presence, that tender longing, that connection.
What if I could be someone else for her? Lena thought desperately. What if I could leave all this behind and just be... with Kara?
But then the messages flashed before her again. Kill Alex. Get the job done.
Kara had no idea what she was asking. She didn't know the price Lena had already paid. And even as she longed to pull Kara into her arms again, to lose herself in her warmth, Lena knew she couldn't escape the truth of who she was.
She had made choices, and those choices had consequences.
And tonight, those consequences would come to a head.
Lena took a deep breath, her fingers trembling as she reached for her phone again. She couldn't let this continue. She couldn't keep Kara in the dark forever.
But there was still time. Tonight, Lena had to make the final decision. And she wasn't sure how she could live with the consequences.
Kara arrived at Lena’s penthouse that evening, her presence filling the room with a quiet intensity. When Lena opened the door, she was struck by how beautiful Kara looked. Her blonde hair fell around her shoulders, glowing in the soft hallway light. Kara was dressed simply but elegantly, and her energy was so strong that Lena couldn’t look away.
Kara’s eyes lit up when she saw Lena, and a warm, open smile spread across her face. It was the kind of smile that could make anyone feel better. For a moment, Lena forgot everything, her mission, the consequences, the plans. All she saw was Kara.
“Hey,” Kara said softly, stepping into the apartment. Her voice was warm but a bit shy, as if she wasn’t sure about what was happening between them. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
Lena shook her head, her eyes following Kara as she moved further into the room. It was like Lena was drawn to Kara’s warmth and life. Everything about Kara was bright and alive, making Lena feel like she was on the edge of something she couldn’t go back from.
"No," Lena replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "You’re not interrupting. I... I’m glad you’re here."
Kara’s eyes softened, and she stepped closer, her hand reaching out tentatively. “You sure?” she asked, her expression hopeful but uncertain. “You seem a bit distant lately. Is everything okay?”
Lena felt a lump form in her throat, the weight of her emotions becoming too much. She didn’t know what to say or how to explain what was going on inside her. All she knew was that Kara was there, and everything else felt far away.
She closed the distance between them, her fingers trembling slightly as she cupped Kara’s cheek. The warmth of Kara’s skin grounded Lena but also stirred something deeper within her—something raw and undeniable.
“Kara…” Lena began, her voice trembling with emotion. “I don’t know how to say this, but—”
“You don’t have to say anything,” Kara interrupted gently, her eyes knowing. She leaned into Lena’s touch, her hand finding Lena’s and squeezing it softly. “I know what you’re feeling.”
Lena’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart was beating so loudly that she could barely think. Did Kara really know? Or was this just an illusion?
But before she could doubt herself, the words escaped her lips, raw and unguarded. “I love you, Kara.” She let the words hang in the air, feeling both a release and a weight. “I’ve been trying to ignore it, to push it away, but I can’t. I love you, and I don’t know how to—” She faltered, her voice breaking as the truth spilled out.
Kara’s eyes softened, and a gentle smile spread across her face as she reached up to cup Lena’s face. “Lena…” she whispered, her voice filled with affection. “I love you, too.”
The words hit Lena like a wave. She hadn’t expected this, never the certainty in Kara’s eyes or the sincerity in her voice. It made everything else seem irrelevant, like nothing mattered except what was between them.
Lena swallowed hard, her heart racing. She hadn’t known what to expect, but it wasn’t this. Her feelings, her reservations—all her coldness and caution had been stripped away by the force of Kara’s love. And in that moment, she couldn’t stop herself. She didn’t want to.
“I don’t deserve you,” Lena said, her voice barely audible. “I’ve been horrible, Kara. I’ve done things… I’ve hurt people. And you… You deserve someone who isn’t broken.”
Kara shook her head, her fingers brushing against Lena’s lips gently to silence her. “You’re not broken, Lena,” she said softly, her voice full of warmth. “You’re just scared. And I get that. But I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere.” Her hand rested on Lena’s chest, right above her heart. “I’m with you, no matter what.”
Lena closed her eyes for a moment, letting Kara’s words wash over her, soothing the tension in her chest. It was almost too much to take in. But the truth was, Kara’s presence made her feel alive in a way she hadn’t in years. It was like Kara was a light shining through the darkness that had enveloped Lena’s world.
For the first time in a long time, Lena felt like she could breathe again.
Then, without another word, Kara leaned in, pressing her lips gently against Lena’s. The kiss was soft at first, tender and full of hesitation and wonder. But soon, it deepened, and Lena felt herself melting into it, her body responding to the touch she had longed for. She kissed Kara with everything she had, pouring all her bottled-up emotions into that moment, the guilt, the longing, the fear.
Kara responded in kind, her arms wrapping around Lena, pulling her closer, as if she never wanted to let go. And for the first time in a long time, Lena didn’t want to either. She wanted to forget everything, forget the mission, forget the darkness of her past. She just wanted to hold Kara, to feel the warmth of her love, to make her own heart beat with the same intensity Kara’s did.
When they finally broke apart, breathless and a little dazed, Kara smiled up at her, her eyes twinkling with trust. “I love you, Lena,” she whispered again, her hands gently cupping Lena’s face. “And I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
Lena felt the words seep deep into her heart. She didn’t know what the future held or what consequences awaited them, but in that moment, she didn’t care. She had never felt more alive, more real, than she did now.
And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
Chapter Text
Lena and Kara sat across from each other at the dinner table, the soft candlelight flickering between them. The evening had turned out differently than Lena had expected.
Relaxed, easy, filled with laughter and the warmth of Kara’s presence. They had shared a quiet meal, and the tension of the last few days slowly faded away. The conversation was light and almost effortless. For once, Lena didn’t feel the need to keep everything guarded. With Kara, there was no need for that.
“This pasta is amazing,” Kara said with a wide smile, taking another bite and then reaching for her wine glass. Her eyes sparkled with joy, and it was clear how much she was enjoying being with Lena, just being together.
Lena couldn’t help but smile back, feeling her heart warm every time Kara smiled. It was one of those rare, perfect moments where everything felt right, like there was nothing else to worry about or fear. Just the two of them, sharing something real.
“I’m glad you like it,” Lena replied softly, her voice almost a whisper as she gazed at Kara. She hadn’t realized until now how much she had missed moments like this simple, genuine connection. Kara had a way of making everything feel right without even trying. She was the kind of person who could fill a room with light, and Lena was drawn to her like a moth to a flame.
After dinner, they moved to the living room. Kara picked out a movie, one of her favorites, and they settled in on the couch together, the soft sound of the movie playing in the background. But it didn’t take long before the closeness between them became more noticeable. Lena’s hand found its way to Kara’s, and Kara didn’t pull away. Instead, she intertwined her fingers with Lena’s, her touch warm and comforting.
Kara’s head rested gently on Lena’s shoulder, and for a while, they just watched the movie in silence, content in the shared proximity. The soft sound of Kara’s breathing against her skin made Lena feel a sense of calm she hadn’t realized she was missing.
But as the movie went on, Lena’s attention kept drifting to Kara, how her blonde hair shimmered under the soft light, how her lips curved into gentle smiles, how her eyes sparkled with affection and something deeper, something that made Lena’s heart race. Every small movement of Kara’s body seemed to draw Lena in, her heart thumping louder the longer they sat together.
It didn’t take long before Kara shifted, turning to face Lena. There was a warmth in her eyes, a tenderness that made Lena’s breath hitch. Without a word, Kara leaned in closer, her lips brushing lightly against Lena’s cheek. It was the softest kiss, just a featherlight touch that sent shivers through Lena’s entire body.
Before Lena could even process what was happening, Kara was moving again, this time closer, closer still. Their lips met in a kiss that was soft and tentative at first, like they were both testing the waters. But then, as if a switch had been flipped, the kiss deepened, and everything else faded away.
Lena’s heart raced as she pulled Kara closer, her fingers sliding into Kara’s hair, urging her to come even closer. Kara’s body pressed against hers, and Lena felt the heat between them, the raw, undeniable chemistry. It was like everything inside her was awakened, this feeling, this hunger, this need that she couldn’t quite explain. Kara’s lips moved against hers, tender but insistent, and it drove every thought from Lena’s mind.
Kara’s hands slid down Lena’s body, resting against her waist, pulling her even closer. Lena’s breath hitched as their kiss grew more urgent, more desperate. The world outside seemed to vanish. It was just them, two people, bound together by a connection that was becoming impossible to ignore.
Lena could feel the tension in the air, the charged energy between them. She knew that they couldn’t stop now. The way Kara touched her, kissed her, looked at her, it was like nothing else mattered anymore.
Lena’s hands slid under Kara’s shirt, her fingers tracing the soft skin of her back. Kara let out a small, contented sigh, and Lena responded by deepening their kiss even further, her body pressing flush against Kara’s. There was no going back now. The bond they shared was too strong, too consuming, to pretend like anything could hold them apart.
Kara pulled back just slightly, her breathing shallow as she gazed into Lena’s eyes. “Are you sure about this?” she whispered, her voice thick with longing.
Lena swallowed hard, her heart hammering in her chest. She didn’t have to think about it. She didn’t want to think about it. Yes, she was sure. Yes to Kara. Yes to this connection. Yes to everything that had brought them to this moment. She leaned in, pressing her lips to Kara’s once more, not bothering to answer with words. She didn’t need to. Their bodies spoke for them.
Kara responded with a quiet, almost needy moan, her hands sliding under Lena’s shirt, pulling it off with a gentle but determined motion. Lena followed suit, her hands eagerly working to remove Kara’s clothes. The space between them vanished, and before they both knew it, they were both naked, their bodies pressed together, skin against skin.
Every touch was electric, every kiss igniting a fire that Lena had never known existed. Kara’s hands moved over Lena’s body with a reverence, a tenderness that took Lena’s breath away. She had never experienced anything like this before, not in her past, not in her cold, calculated world. This...this was raw, this was real.
Lena moved over Kara’s body, kissing her neck, trailing her lips down to the soft curve of her collarbone, tasting her skin like it was the only thing that mattered. Kara’s hands found Lena’s hips, urging her closer, and Lena responded by grinding against her, feeling the rush of desire course through her.
And then it happened. It was all so natural, so inevitable. Their bodies moved together in sync, each movement pushing them closer, faster, until nothing else mattered. There was no mission, no cold calculation, no darkness. Just Kara. Just the way she made Lena feel alive, like she had finally found something worth fighting for.
They moved together, kissing, touching, exploring with a desperation that only seemed to grow stronger the longer they were together. And when they finally reached that peak, that point where everything exploded, it was unlike anything Lena had ever experienced. It was raw, beautiful, and pure. In that moment, it was just them, no one else in the world mattered.
As they lay together, their breathing slowly returning to normal, Lena felt a sense of peace settle over her. The world hadn’t changed. The danger was still there. But with Kara, for the first time in a long time, Lena felt like everything was going to be okay.
Kara curled up against her, resting her head on Lena’s chest, and Lena held her close, feeling the warmth of Kara’s body against hers. In the quiet of the night, with the weight of everything else forgotten for just a little while, Lena let herself believe that maybe, just maybe, there was a way out of the darkness.
But for now, she had Kara. And that was enough.
Lena lay in the soft glow of her penthouse, Kara’s head resting on her chest, their breathing in sync as they both tried to catch their breath. It felt perfect, almost too good to be true. For a moment, Lena let herself believe she could leave everything behind, the past, the secrets, the darkness that had followed her for so long.
Kara stirred in her arms, her breath soft and steady. Lena couldn’t help but smile, feeling Kara’s warmth and love seep into her. The weight of it all felt so right that Lena almost forgot about the task ahead, the one she had been planning for days, the one she couldn’t ignore.
But just as she was about to drift off to sleep, her phone vibrated sharply on the bedside table. A cold rush washed over her as the vibrations cut through the peaceful moment. She reluctantly reached for her phone, the screen lighting up with a message from an unknown number. Her stomach tightened as she unlocked it, dreading what she might find.
The message read:
"The mission will be reassigned. We’ve identified a new operative. You failed to act, Lena. Someone else will handle Danvers. Proceed with caution."
Lena’s hand froze over the phone. Her mind raced, the message echoing through her brain. She felt a cold pit form in her stomach. She hadn’t failed, not in the way they meant. She hadn’t gone through with the job because of Kara.
But the reality hit her hard. Someone else would come for Alex Danvers now. The consequences of her hesitation, of her feelings for Kara, were bigger than she could imagine. This wasn’t just about Alex anymore. Someone else would take the job, someone who wouldn’t care about the complexities Lena had found in herself.
Kara stirred again, her sleepy eyes blinking up at Lena. “Is everything okay?” she asked, her voice soft and concerned.
Lena didn’t know how to answer. She didn’t want to ruin the moment or pull Kara into her mess. But she couldn’t ignore the reality.
Lena took a deep breath and turned her phone over in her hand, trying to mask her unease. “It’s nothing,” she lied, forcing a calm smile as she brushed a strand of Kara’s hair from her face. “Just work stuff. Nothing for you to worry about.”
Kara didn’t seem convinced, her brow furrowing slightly. She shifted to look up at Lena, concern in her eyes. “Lena, I know when something’s wrong. You’ve been acting again a little... distant lately. What’s going on?”
Lena swallowed hard, struggling to suppress her fear. Her gaze met Kara’s, and for the first time, she felt like a part of her was on the verge of breaking. She wanted to tell Kara everything, the mission, the danger, the consequences but how could she burden her with that?
“Nothing’s wrong,” Lena repeated, though her voice lacked conviction. “I just have some things to sort out, okay? But you don’t need to worry about it. I’ll handle it.”
Kara seemed to sense the lie, but she nodded anyway, her eyes searching Lena’s face. “Okay... but you know you don’t have to do everything on your own, right?” Her voice was gentle, but there was an edge of concern that tugged at Lena’s heart.
Lena hesitated, her fingers absently tracing the curve of Kara’s jaw. “I know,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. She wished she didn’t feel so alone in this. That she could just be with Kara and forget about everything else.
Kara smiled softly, her fingers brushing against Lena’s hand, warm and comforting. “Then let me be here for you, okay?” she said, her tone sincere. “I know you’ve got a lot on your plate, but you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.”
Lena closed her eyes for a moment, letting the warmth of Kara’s touch seep into her skin. The pull between them was undeniable. But the weight of the task she had left unfinished was still looming over her. And she knew that if she didn’t do something soon, the people she cared about including Kara could be in even more danger.
She placed the phone down on the bedside table, her fingers brushing over the screen once more. She didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t just ignore the message, the reassignment but the thought of someone else coming after Alex, after Kara’s sister, was almost too much to bear. She’d been so close. But now, the stakes felt even higher. And yet, every time she looked at Kara, the pull to protect her, love her was stronger than the pull to carry out her mission.
Kara shifted in her arms, her eyes half-lidded, but she noticed the shift in Lena’s demeanor. “Lena,” she whispered softly, “what’s going on? You can’t keep hiding this from me.”
Lena’s heart clenched. She could feel the truth tearing at her, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. I’m in too deep. She wanted to scream it, but the words wouldn’t come. “It’s complicated,” she muttered, her voice strained. “I just... I don’t know what to do anymore.”
Kara didn’t press her further, but instead, she simply held Lena tighter, her arms wrapping around her as though offering a silent promise. Whatever happens, Kara seemed to say with her touch, we’ll face it together.
Lena closed her eyes and let out a shaky breath, feeling her resolve crumbling around her. She wanted nothing more than to give in, to let Kara in on everything, the lies, the secrets, the darkness. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t risk hurting Kara, not when she had just started to let herself love her.
“Just stay with me tonight,” Lena whispered, her voice trembling. “Please.”
Kara nodded, her fingers gently brushing over Lena’s back in soothing, rhythmic motions. “Always,” she replied softly, pulling Lena closer. “I’m here.”
For now, Lena let herself sink into Kara’s embrace, the weight of the mission still pressing heavily on her chest. She knew she couldn’t hide forever, but for the moment, she allowed herself a fleeting taste of peace. At least for tonight, at least for a little while, she didn’t have to think about the cost of the choices she had made.
But deep down, Lena knew that time was running out. And she would have to face the consequences sooner rather than later.
Chapter Text
The city hummed with its usual noise, the distant echo of sirens, the quiet murmur of traffic. But inside the shadows, something darker was at play.
Andrea stood on the rooftop of a high-rise, her sharp eyes scanning the streets below. She was everything Lena wasn’t, cold, calculating, and entirely without hesitation. There was no room for doubt in Andrea’s world. She had one objective: Alex Danvers. But she knew better than to rely solely on direct confrontation. No, to take down Alex, she’d need leverage, something that would hurt Danvers.
And there was no better leverage than her sister.
Andrea’s eyes locked onto the figure of Kara Danvers as she flew across the night sky, her cape billowing in the wind. Kara was a beacon, the epitome of hope in this city, but Andrea saw her differently. To her, Kara wasn’t a symbol of hope, she was a weapon. A tool to be used.
It was almost too easy to track Kara. The famous superhero who couldn’t keep a low profile even if she tried. But that was the beauty of it. Andrea didn’t need to find Kara, she just needed to wait for Kara to appear. And once Kara Danvers was in her sights, the game would begin.
"Alex Danvers... and her precious sister." Andrea whispered under her breath, her lips curling into a smile as she pulled out a small device, scanning the area. A sleek, black helmet rested on her back, the sleek lines and advanced tech showing she wasn’t just a mere assassin, she was something else entirely. She was the cutting edge, a woman trained to be ruthless. No emotions, no hesitation.
Kara’s bright presence in the night was almost painful to look at, like a star that wouldn’t go out. But that light could be extinguished. And the first step to doing that was finding where Alex Danvers was, and Andrea knew that if she had to hurt her sister to do it, that would be exactly what she would do.
Meanwhile, Kara was on her usual patrol, her thoughts still drifting back to Lena. She had left her penthouse hours ago after their intimate evening, and her heart still fluttered when she remembered their closeness, the way Lena had made her feel so alive. She had hoped that maybe, just maybe, things could be different but everything felt like it was caught in some inescapable spiral.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket, pulling her out of her thoughts.
It was a message from Lena: “I miss you.”
A wave of warmth swept over Kara as she read the text. She had just been thinking about Lena. It felt so surreal, how could someone so complex and guarded like Lena open up to her so freely? Kara wanted to believe that Lena was still trying to find her own way, her own peace. But something in the back of her mind gnawed at her. She could feel that there were secrets Lena wasn’t telling her. Things that were probably dangerous.
Kara glanced around, realizing she had drifted far from her usual patrol route. Something was off. The air felt thick, as if something was waiting to happen. She frowned, peering down at the city below, her eyes catching movement in the shadows. There was a figure, cloaked in darkness, moving swiftly between alleys.
Her instincts flared. Without thinking, she zipped down toward the figure. She landed lightly on the ground, her eyes scanning the alley for any sign of danger.
“What are you doing here?” Kara called out, her voice firm but calm.
The figure turned to face her, revealing a woman dressed in sleek black armor, her eyes hidden behind a dark mask. There was no recognition in Kara’s mind, this was no one she had encountered before.
The woman’s lips curled into a thin smile. “Looking for something,” she said cryptically, her voice laced with a coldness that sent a chill down Kara’s spine.
Before Kara could react, the woman moved with a swift grace that was almost otherworldly, darting to the side to place herself between Kara and the alleyway.
“You’re Kara Danvers,” she stated flatly, as if it were a fact she had been waiting for.
Kara didn’t flinch. She had faced down plenty of threats before. “And you are?” she asked, trying to assess the woman’s abilities.
“My name is Andrea,” the woman replied, her tone calm but menacing. “And I’m here on a job. But it seems I’ve found an opportunity... a better one.”
Kara narrowed her eyes, sensing something was off. She wasn’t used to people being so... direct with her. “A job? What kind of job?”
Andrea’s gaze flickered briefly to the side, as if looking for something. “The kind where you’ll be a pawn... and your sister will be my queen.”
Kara’s heart stilled at the mention of Alex. “What do you want with her?”
Andrea’s eyes gleamed with a cold malice. “I have to ask her to do something... but I’ll need you to help me get to her. You see, your sister isn’t my target. You are. And once I have you... I’ll have everything I need.”
Kara stepped forward, ready to confront this stranger who seemed so unbothered by the obvious threat of her presence. “If you think for one second that you’ll use me to hurt Alex or anyone else, you’re making a big mistake.”
Andrea didn’t react immediately. She just studied Kara, her mask hiding the faintest glimmer of amusement. “The mistake will be yours, Supergirl. Trust me, you won’t be able to protect her forever. And you have other weakness Kara, your humanity and love."
Kara’s fists clenched, and the air around her seemed to crackle with electricity. “You won’t get away with this.”
Andrea’s lips curled into a smirk. “We’ll see about that.”
Before Kara could react, Andrea vanished into the shadows as quickly as she had appeared, leaving nothing behind but the faint echo of her footsteps. Kara stood frozen, her heart pounding in her chest. The threat was real, too real. She had been so close to Lena, to a future that felt right, and now this stranger was threatening everything she loved.
She grabbed her phone from her pocket, her hands trembling slightly as she dialed Lena's number. She needed to warn her, needed to make sure she was safe, especially with what Andrea had said.
The phone rang. And rang.
But Lena didn’t answer. And then Kara called Alex and went to the DEO
Back at L-Corp, Lena sat behind her desk, her fingers lightly tapping against the surface of the cold glass. She had been trying to ignore the reality of her situation for as long as possible, her inability to focus on the mission, her feelings for Kara, the weight of her secrets... everything.
But just as she was about to send another text to Kara, her phone vibrated again. She checked the notification, but instead of a message from Kara, it was a new alert—a name she didn’t expect: Andrea.
The message was short: “You’ve failed, Lena. Your love for her will be your downfall.”
Lena’s heart dropped, her thoughts racing. If Andrea was involved, if this was the same person who had been assigned to finish what she had started, things had just gotten a whole lot more complicated.
Her grip tightened on the phone as she stood up, her mind spinning. She had to find Kara, protect her. But it was getting harder and harder to separate the mission from her feelings for the woman who had, against all odds, captured her heart.
Kara.
Everything felt like it was spiraling out of control. The choices Lena had made, the path she had taken, it was all coming to a head. And now, with Andrea in the mix, the danger was no longer just theoretical. It was real.
And Lena didn’t know how much longer she could hide who she was from Kara... or if she even could anymore.
Andrea stood in the shadows of the underground weapons vault, her eyes scanning the shelves filled with an arsenal of deadly tools. She was methodical, patient, her focus sharp. Her mission was simple: she would take down Supergirl and with Kara’s sister, Alex, in her grasp, there would be nothing standing in her way.
Kara Danvers, the invincible alien, the heart of the city’s hope, had always been a formidable opponent. But Andrea was no mere assassin. She was something more, something far darker. She had studied every move Kara had made, every weakness that the world didn't know about. And there was one weakness she could exploit, the thing that could bring even the mighty Supergirl to her knees.
Kryptonite.
Andrea’s gloved hand brushed against a sleek, green shard of the rare and lethal substance. It was just as dangerous as it was precious. She had spent weeks hunting down the rare mineral, negotiating with underground sources, and tracking down leads until she had acquired what she needed. And now, she held it in her palm like a tiny, lethal treasure.
Kara’s strength was her greatest asset but it was also her greatest vulnerability. Andrea knew that if she could get close enough, if she could wield the kryptonite effectively, she would be able to render Kara powerless. The moment she got Kara weak and helpless, Alex would be nothing but an afterthought.
And once she had them both... it would all be over. She’d have the leverage she needed to complete her mission and wipe them both out.
She smirked, securing the shard in a hidden compartment inside her armor. This would be easier than she had initially thought. Supergirl might be faster than her, stronger than her but the one thing Andrea had that Kara didn’t was planning.
Meanwhile, Kara was anxiously pacing the length of her apartment, her mind running wild with thoughts of Lena, of the mysterious assassin Andrea, and the message she had received earlier. Her fingers were trembling as she dialed Lena’s number again, yet again, it went to voicemail.
It had been hours since they last spoke, and every minute of it felt like an eternity. She had tried to keep her mind on the patrol, on the mission, but it was impossible to ignore the gnawing worry at the back of her mind. Lena’s cryptic texts, the strange tension between them, and now... Andrea. Whoever she was, Andrea had made it clear that she had plans for Kara and for Alex.
Kara’s thoughts kept returning to the conversation she had with Lena just days ago, when they had kissed, when they had been together. She knew Lena was hiding something, some piece of her past she wasn’t ready to share but Kara had promised her that they would work through it. But now, with the weight of everything going on, Kara wasn’t so sure anymore.
She wasn’t sure about anything.
A sudden ringing on her phone startled her, breaking the silence in the room. The name on the screen sent a rush of relief through her heart. It was Lena.
“Kara?” Lena’s voice came through the phone, sounding strained, almost urgent.
“Lena,” Kara breathed, trying to keep the relief from spilling out too much. “I’ve been trying to reach you. Where are you? Are you okay?”
Lena hesitated before answering. “I... I’m fine. But you need to listen to me, Kara. There’s someone dangerous in the city. Her name is Andrea. I’m not sure if you’ve encountered her yet, but she’s dangerous, and she has information on Alex.”
Kara’s stomach twisted at the mention of her sister. “What do you mean, ‘information on Alex’?”
“I mean,” Lena’s voice tightened, “she knows about you, about Alex, and she’s using that to her advantage. She’s tracking you both, and she’s not going to stop until she has what she wants.”
“Lena, what does she want? Why is she after us?” Kara’s voice dropped, filled with concern.
Lena paused, her voice quiet now, almost like she was weighing her words carefully. “She’s after Alex, but she’s going to use you to get to her. You’re her leverage, Kara. I don’t know what she wants with Alex, but if she gets to you first, it won’t matter.”
Kara’s pulse quickened as the weight of Lena’s words sank in. Leverage? The idea that someone could use her to hurt Alex, that thought made her sick. But there was something more behind Lena’s words. She was worried. Deeply worried.
“I won’t let her use me,” Kara said, the resolve in her voice growing stronger. “Where are you? We can figure this out together.”
Lena exhaled slowly, but the tension in her voice remained. “I can’t come to you. Not yet. But I’ll find you as soon as I can. Just stay safe. Keep Alex close, don’t trust anyone else.”
The line went quiet for a moment, and Kara could hear the unease in Lena’s voice, even through the phone. This wasn’t just a normal threat. Kara could feel it.
“Lena,” she said softly, “we’ll make it through this. We always do.”
But Lena’s response was barely audible, like she was afraid to speak it aloud. “I’m scared, Kara. I’m scared for both of you.”
Before Kara could reply, the line went dead.
Andrea stood silently in the shadows once again, her expression as emotionless as the mask that hid her features. She had listened to Kara’s side of the conversation, her enhanced hearing picking up every word. She could see Kara’s worry, her attachment to Lena and that would be her undoing.
“Lena Luthor,” Andrea muttered, her voice dripping with disdain. “You’re just like the rest. Weakness is the one thing that will bring you all to your knees.”
With Kara distracted, Andrea knew it was only a matter of time before the moment of reckoning came. She would strike first, and she would strike hard.
Hours later, Kara found herself standing outside Alex’s apartment, her heart pounding in her chest. Lena’s warning was still fresh in her mind. If Andrea had already gotten to her, if she was coming for Alex, then she needed to be ready. Kara’s eyes scanned the dark streets, her super-hearing alert for any signs of trouble. The last thing she wanted was for Alex to be taken by surprise.
She rang the doorbell.
Moments later, the door opened, and Alex stood there, her expression puzzled but relieved to see her. “Kara? What’s going on?”
“I think we’re in trouble,” Kara said, stepping inside quickly. “Someone’s after you. They’re using me as leverage. We need to move. Now.”
Before Alex could react, the lights flickered in the hallway, and the air suddenly seemed off. Kara’s senses went on high alert. She grabbed Alex’s arm. “Stay close,” she whispered.
But it was too late.
Andrea appeared from the shadows, a wicked grin on her face as she stepped forward, holding something small and gleaming in her hand. It was the kryptonite. The green glow cut through the dark, illuminating her features like a cruel spotlight.
“Hello, Supergirl,” Andrea said, her voice dripping with malice. “It’s time for you to feel pain.”
Kara’s heart sank. The green glow of the kryptonite was already starting to drain her strength. She clenched her fists, trying to fight it off, but it was too powerful. Her vision blurred as the world around her seemed to dim.
And then, Andrea’s voice cut through the haze.
“If you want your sister to live, you’ll come with me. And if you refuse,” she said with a cold laugh, “I’ll kill her in front of you slowly and painfully.”
Chapter Text
Kara’s body trembled as the green glow of the kryptonite worked its sinister magic on her. Every cell in her body screamed for release, her strength draining as she fought to stay conscious. She could barely hold herself up as the pain washed over her in waves. The kryptonite... it was the one thing that could incapacitate her, and Andrea knew it.
But all Kara could think about was Alex. Her sister. The person she would die for.
“No!” Kara gritted through clenched teeth, her voice raw. “You won’t hurt her!”
Andrea, standing a few steps away, twisted the shard of kryptonite between her fingers with a smug grin. She wasn’t in any rush. She knew she had the upper hand. Kara’s weakness was in full effect, and now it was time to finish what she started.
“Why are you even trying, Supergirl?” Andrea taunted, her voice dripping with venom. “You’re not going to save her. You’ve already lost. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure to let you watch your precious sister die.”
Kara’s vision blurred, but she could still hear Alex, her voice frantic and full of fear. “Kara, no! Stay with me! Please!”
But just as Andrea took a step forward, ready to strike, a sharp, familiar voice cut through the tension.
“No!”
Lena Luthor emerged from the shadows, her eyes burning with a cold fury that surprised even Andrea. She had heard the commotion from across the street and knew instantly what was happening. There was no time for hesitation. She had to act, and she had to act now.
Lena stood tall, her voice cutting through the air like a blade. “You’re not hurting them. Not while I’m here.”
Andrea looked at Lena with disdain, her lip curling into a sneer. “Lena Luthor,” she spat. “The traitor. I should have known you’d come crawling back for your little toy. What, you think you’re going to stop me?” Her laugh echoed, cruel and loud. “You were supposed to kill her, Lena. Not protect her. Not protect either of them.”
Lena’s eyes flickered with the flash of her past, the mission, the cold calculations, the ruthless efficiency of a life she had built and abandoned. But now, it was different. Kara and Alex weren’t just casualties in a game. They were something more, something Lena had never expected to find.
“Not anymore,” Lena replied, her voice low and filled with resolve. She threw something small and metallic toward Andrea, a flash grenade, momentarily blinding her with a sudden, blinding light.
Andrea hissed, stumbling back, but Lena was already moving. She lunged forward, her agility belying her usual cold, calculated demeanor. She was no longer thinking like a killer, she was thinking like a woman trying to protect something she never thought she’d care for.
And as Lena got closer, she pulled a sleek, modified weapon from her belt, firing it at Andrea. The blast hit her square in the chest, sending Andrea crashing backward into a stack of crates. But Andrea wasn’t out of the fight.
“You betrayed us, Lena,” Andrea growled as she got to her feet, wiping the dust from her armor. “You were supposed to be my ally. We were supposed to kill them, together. Now look at you, weak, trying to play the hero.”
Alex and Kara were both stunned, too shocked to move as they processed the scene unfolding before them. Kara’s heart was still heavy with the pain from the kryptonite, but the rush of adrenaline at seeing Lena fight for them made her feel something she hadn’t expected to feel. Relief.
But the words Andrea spoke were a sharp dagger to both of their hearts.
“Kill her?” Alex muttered, her voice a mix of confusion and disbelief. “What do you mean, Lena? You were supposed to kill me?”
Lena froze. The question had hit her like a punch to the gut. She could feel the heat of the moment begin to sour, as if the world itself was folding under the weight of her own actions. The truth was out there now, Andrea had exposed it. Lena was no hero. Not to Kara, not to Alex. She had been part of something much darker.
But before she could respond, Andrea sneered again. “What, you think she didn’t know? Did you really think she wouldn’t figure it out eventually, Lena?” Andrea’s voice turned to venom as she spoke directly to Kara. “Your precious Lena, the one you so blindly trusted? She was never going to save you. She was sent to kill Alex all along. And yet, look at her, playing the lover now. Pathetic.”
Lena’s blood ran cold at the way Andrea spoke, like she was mocking her for every choice she had made. But as Andrea advanced on them again, Lena’s hand clenched around her weapon, her eyes locking with Kara’s.
Kara looked at Lena, her expression unreadable. Betrayed? Could it be true? Was Lena the one who had been assigned to kill her sister? Was all of this, everything they had, part of a bigger plan, a dangerous lie?
But then she saw it. She saw the look in Lena’s eyes, the struggle, the regret, the raw emotion that had broken through the walls Lena had built around herself.
Lena wasn’t the woman she used to be. She wasn’t the cold, calculating killer that Kara had feared.
And as Kara’s heart beat in her chest, something inside her began to shift. She wanted to believe in Lena. She needed to believe in her.
But Andrea wasn’t going to make that easy.
“You think I’m going to let you get away with this?” Andrea mocked, her eyes flicking between Lena and Kara. “You’ll turn on each other, you’ll tear each other apart. Lena’s already too deep in the game. She’s already chosen her side.”
“No,” Lena said, her voice sharp and unwavering. “I choose my side now.”
With that, she lunged again, this time moving faster than Andrea had anticipated. There was no more hesitation, no more thinking. She wasn’t going to let Kara or Alex die. Not after everything she had done.
But Andrea wasn’t going to go down without a fight. She activated a hidden blade in her armor, aiming it at Lena. With a swift motion, the two women collided in a whirlwind of punches, kicks, and expertly aimed strikes.
Kara, still struggling against the kryptonite, tried to stand up. “Lena... please... stop her...”
But Andrea, now locked in a brutal fight with Lena, didn’t seem to care. Her eyes gleamed with the desire to crush everything in her path.
“You’re a fool, Lena,” Andrea hissed, knocking her back into a pile of crates. “You had one job! And now, you’ll watch as I tear everything you love apart. Starting with your precious Kara.”
As Andrea advanced on Kara, Lena quickly recovered, her fist slamming into Andrea’s side.
“You don’t get to hurt her,” Lena spat, her voice filled with venom. She shoved Andrea back, sending her stumbling into the wall. “I’ve made my choice, Andrea.”
Kara watched, her heart pounding, as Lena and Andrea fought with everything they had. She didn’t know what would happen next. The truth about Lena had been revealed, and it wasn’t what she had expected. But she knew one thing for sure. Lena had come for her. And for Alex.
And, despite everything, Kara didn’t know what that meant for them, but it was enough.
The sounds of battle echoed through the dimly lit alley as Lena and Andrea clashed, each move calculated with the precision of trained assassins. But just as Lena had the upper hand, just as she was about to land a fatal blow, Andrea’s eyes glinted with a dangerous cunning.
“You’ll never be rid of me,” Andrea sneered, pulling a small device from her belt and activating it in a single motion. A high-pitched sound filled the air, and before Lena could react, Andrea vanished, surrounded by a burst of light that left nothing but empty space behind.
Lena’s body froze for a moment, the tension of the fight still sizzling in her veins. She glanced around, but Andrea was gone, slipping into the shadows like a ghost, leaving only the smell of burned air and the taste of unfinished business in Lena’s mouth.
“Damn it…” Lena muttered under her breath, her fist clenched in frustration. She had been so close.
But her focus quickly shifted as she turned her gaze toward Kara and Alex, who had both been watching the entire encounter unfold.
Kara’s eyes were wide, her face pale, and her body trembling slightly from the remnants of the kryptonite’s effects, though she was fighting it off now. But there was something else there, something harder in her gaze as she locked eyes with Lena.
And Alex… Alex stood with her arms crossed, her expression unreadable, her eyes flicking between Lena and Kara. Her brow was furrowed, suspicion clouding her features.
Lena’s chest tightened at the sight of their gaze, particularly Alex’s. She couldn’t tell what was going through Kara's sister mind, but one thing was certain: things had changed. Whatever trust she had gained, whatever bond had formed between them, it had cracked.
Kara took a cautious step forward, her voice soft but heavy with a mixture of confusion and hurt. “Lena…” She paused, her words seemingly caught in her throat before she could continue. “You… you said you were protecting us. But you… you were supposed to kill Alex.”
The words hung in the air, sharp and accusing.
Lena’s stomach twisted at the sting in Kara’s voice. She had expected this, knew this moment would come but hearing it from Kara, hearing the hurt behind her words, felt like a blade driving deep into her chest.
“I never wanted to hurt you, Kara,” Lena replied quietly, her voice uncharacteristically soft. “I was sent to kill Alex... but that’s not who I am anymore. I didn’t want to do it. I—” She paused, biting her lip as she tried to gather her thoughts. “I changed. For you. I couldn’t go through with it. I couldn’t.”
Kara’s eyes flickered between Lena and Alex, her body tense as she took a step back. “But… you lied to me. You said you were just helping. You said you were just trying to protect us. But you didn’t tell me the truth, Lena. I… I trusted you.”
The pain in Kara’s voice hit Lena like a freight train. It was raw, jagged, as if Kara’s heart had shattered into pieces. And Lena knew that it was her fault. She had lied to Kara, lied to the one person who had trusted her completely, despite everything.
“I know I lied,” Lena said, her voice barely above a whisper. “But I didn’t want to lose you. I didn’t want you to see me as the monster I was… or the monster I used to be. I never thought I could be… more than what I was trained to be. But then I met you. And I thought I could do something good. But I wasn’t good.”
She closed her eyes, her breath shaking.
Kara’s gaze was softening, but there was still an edge to it. “But you were good to me, Lena. You were the one who saved me when I needed it. When I felt like I had no one. But now I’m starting to wonder if you only did that because of who I am. If you only protected me because of your mission…”
Lena shook her head frantically, the words spilling out before she could stop them. “No, Kara, that’s not true! I cared for you. I still care for you. It’s just… complicated. And I didn’t know how to explain everything without losing you.”
Alex crossed her arms, her voice sharp and cutting. “You should have told us the truth from the start, Lena. You were never going to get away with hiding this. You can’t just walk in here, pretend to be our friend, and then pull a stunt like that. You had us fooled.”
Lena’s eyes flickered to Alex, and she could see the anger and hurt burning in her gaze. She wasn’t surprised by Alex’s reaction. She’d expected it. But it didn't hurt her, the way Alex’s words landed with such weight. What hurt her was Kara's eyes, her pain.
“Alex, I never hurt you and I could lot of times,” Lena said quietly, her voice filled with regret. “But I can’t change what I did. All I can do now is protect you both. I can protect you this time.”
“Protect us?” Alex scoffed, shaking her head. “You’ve already betrayed us, Lena. How are we supposed to trust you now?”
Kara’s gaze softened, but there was a sadness in her eyes. “I want to believe you, Lena. I really do. But everything’s so… messed up. You’ve been hiding things from us the whole time. How do we even know this isn’t some game to you? That you’re not just waiting for the right moment to stab us in the back?”
Lena took a deep breath, the weight of the situation crashing down on her. She knew Kara was right. They had every reason to doubt her. She had lied to them, manipulated them, and in the end, she had almost let her old life pull her into darkness again. She had almost destroyed them.
“I understand why you don’t trust me. But I’m telling you the truth now. I don’t want to lose either of you. I can’t undo what I’ve done, but I can make sure nothing happens to either of you. I will protect you, even if it means losing everything else. You have my word.”
Alex, still scowling, met Kara’s eyes. The tension between them was palpable, but something shifted. It wasn’t forgiveness, not yet. But maybe, just maybe there was a glimmer of hope.
Kara stepped forward, her voice calm but uncertain. “I need time, Lena. I don’t know if I can trust you yet. But… I’ll try. I’ll try to believe you.”
Lena nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. She had no right to ask for forgiveness. She had no right to expect anything from Kara or Alex. But hearing Kara say those words, even if they were tentative, felt like a lifeline in the midst of the storm.
And as the weight of their fractured bond hung heavy in the air, Lena knew that the fight wasn’t over, not just with Andrea, but with herself. She was going to have to prove herself to Kara. She was going to have to show them that she wasn’t the same person who had come into her live with blood on her hands.
She was going to have to fight for her.
And, just maybe, they would fight for her too.
Chapter Text
Lena stood in the quiet of her penthouse, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. Kara and Alex’s words, their pain, their distrust, all echoed in her mind, gnawing at her like a constant, insistent reminder of how far she had fallen. She wasn’t just fighting against the darkness inside her anymore, she was fighting to hold onto something fragile and precious: the trust of the person she cared about.
But she couldn’t ignore the harsh reality. Andrea was still out there. She was dangerous, merciless, and she knew too much. If Lena didn’t find Andrea and stop her, everything she had worked so hard to build, everything she was fighting to protect, would come crashing down. Andrea would tell their superiors. She would spill the truth about Lena’s mission, about the lies, and that could very well mean the end of everything. Her life, Kara’s, Alex’s. It didn’t matter.
Lena exhaled sharply, pushing away from the counter, the weight of her decision heavy on her shoulders. She knew what she had to do. There was no room for doubt, no room for hesitation. Andrea had to be taken out, permanently.
She reached for her phone, scrolling through the messages she had received earlier. A few were from Kara, her tentative words about trying to trust her again, but most were from her various sources, tracking Andrea’s movements. Andrea wasn’t hiding, she wasn’t afraid. But Lena had a different kind of fear. A fear of what would happen if she didn’t act quickly.
Lena sent a quick text to her most trusted contact, a shadow in her network who specialized in tracking down high-value targets. She needed information, where Andrea was now. She had to find her before Andrea did something irreversible.
Lena’s phone buzzed seconds later with a response: Andrea's last known location: an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Metropolis. Heavy security. Watch your back.
Lena’s jaw tightened as she read the message. She didn’t need more confirmation. She was already moving before the message was even fully processed in her mind.
—
A few hours later, Lena stood outside the dilapidated warehouse, her breath steady, her mind focused. The night air was crisp, and the shadows seemed to stretch across the ground like silent, waiting monsters. Every step she took felt heavier, but she didn’t let herself falter. Not now.
Her black leather jacket, a signature of her Luthor identity, blended into the darkness as she approached the side entrance. She had learned from experience that stealth was key in a situation like this. The last thing she needed was to make noise and draw attention to herself.
She checked her weapons, two handguns, a stun grenade, and a small, razor-sharp knife strapped to her thigh. She wasn’t here for a fight, not a prolonged one. She was here to make it quick, make it clean. And if she had to kill Andrea to protect everyone she cared about, she would do it. No hesitation. She had made that choice the moment Andrea threatened Kara.
The warehouse door creaked open with a slight push, the sound so faint it might have been drowned by the wind. Lena slipped inside, her eyes scanning the dim interior. She could hear faint murmurs of voices, Andrea’s, maybe. And the unmistakable sound of metal scraping against concrete.
Lena’s heart pounded harder as she moved deeper into the shadows, her steps calculated, almost silent. She could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on her with every step. She wasn’t just fighting Andrea. She was fighting her past. Fighting the parts of herself that still wanted to run from this life, this choice. But there was no turning back now.
And then, she saw her.
Andrea stood at the center of the warehouse, her back to Lena, her posture relaxed as she handled a piece of machinery, an old-fashioned gun, probably something she planned to use on the next target. She didn’t notice Lena’s presence until Lena spoke.
“I should have killed you when I had the chance,” Lena’s voice rang out, cold and calm, but carrying the weight of an unspoken truth.
Andrea’s head snapped around, her eyes narrowing when she saw Lena standing in the shadows. Her lips twisted into a smirk, as if she’d been expecting this. “Lena Luthor,” she said with a mocking drawl. “The traitor. I knew you’d come crawling back. You can’t resist the bloodshed, can you?”
Lena’s fingers tightened on the grip of her gun. “I’m not here to talk, Andrea. I’m here to end this. And you.”
Andrea’s eyes glittered with amusement. “You think you can stop me? You think you can kill me? You’ve made a mess of your own life, Lena. You’re nothing more than a pawn in this game.”
Lena took a step forward, the anger inside her rising with every word. “I’m done with your games, Andrea. If I let you live, you’ll take me down, take Kara down, take Alex down. And I can’t let that happen.”
Andrea scoffed, spinning around as she prepared for the fight. “You can’t kill me, Lena. You’ve changed, haven’t you? The great Luthor assassin, turning into a helpless little puppy for the Danvers sisters. Or more to that alien Supergirl. Pathetic.”
The insult stung, but Lena didn’t flinch. Instead, she adjusted her stance, her hand steady. “You’ve made a big mistake underestimating me.”
In the blink of an eye, the warehouse became a battleground. Andrea lunged forward, her eyes flashing with deadly intent, and Lena didn’t hesitate. She ducked, narrowly avoiding Andrea’s first strike. The two women moved in a deadly dance, each one anticipating the other’s moves, every punch and kick a calculated decision in a game where the stakes were life or death.
But Lena wasn’t just fighting Andrea,.she was fighting herself. Fighting the urge to hesitate, to second-guess her decisions. She had done that enough in the past. And now, in the heat of the moment, she couldn’t afford it.
Andrea managed to knock Lena back, and she took a few steps away, grinning like a predator. “You’re not the same woman I used to know, Lena. You’re weaker now. Too soft. And it’s going to cost you.”
Lena wiped blood from her lip, her eyes narrowing. She didn’t have time for games anymore. “I’m not weak. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been.”
Without warning, Lena tossed a stun grenade in Andrea’s direction, the explosion of light and sound blinding her for just a moment. That was all the opening Lena needed. She lunged forward, grabbing Andrea by the throat and slamming her into the cold, concrete floor.
“You’ll never get away with this,” Andrea hissed, her hand reaching for a knife hidden in her boot.
Lena’s grip tightened. “I’m not letting you take anyone else down with you. This ends now.”
With a sharp, final motion, Lena drew her knife and pressed it against Andrea’s throat. The woman’s eyes widened with surprise.
“You’re not going to kill me, Lena,” Andrea whispered, but there was no confidence in her voice. Only fear.
Lena didn’t flinch. “I’m not going to let you destroy everything I’ve fought for.”
The knife slid across Andrea’s throat, and in an instant, the mercenary’s body went limp, her life snuffed out before she could utter another word.
Lena stood over her for a moment, her breath coming in sharp bursts, the adrenaline still rushing through her veins. The fight was over, but the war inside her continued. Andrea’s death meant the end of one chapter, but Lena knew that her real battle was still ahead. She had killed a monster. But she didn’t feel victorious.
She felt empty.
And as she turned and walked out of the warehouse, she couldn’t shake the thought: What now? Would Kara ever forgive her? Would she ever trust her again after everything she had done?
Only time would tell. But one thing was certain: Lena Luthor wasn’t going to stop fighting. Not for them. Not for herself. Not for anyone.
Lena returned to her penthouse with a heavy heart, each step feeling like it took her further away from the person she had been. The adrenaline had worn off, but the weight of what she had just done, killing Andrea, the woman she once considered an equal, a colleague, maybe even a rival, crushed her in a way she hadn’t expected.
The cold silence of her penthouse greeted her as she stepped inside, the lights dimmed, casting shadows across the room. She took a long breath, her hands trembling slightly. The blood still stained her clothes,.Andrea’s blood but it wasn’t just the blood that was making her feel suffocated. It was the hollow emptiness inside her, the gnawing sensation that she couldn’t escape. She was used to being detached, to cutting off emotions, to compartmentalizing her thoughts and actions. But tonight, none of that had worked.
The realization hit her harder than any physical blow could: she was falling hard and obsessively for Kara.
She moved into her private bathroom, shedding her blood-soaked clothes with mechanical precision, as though going through the motions to rid herself of both the physical evidence and the emotional weight of the past few hours. The dark suit, the leather, the weapons and she discarded them all as if they were someone else's problem, someone else’s life.
She turned the shower on, the water hot, steam quickly filling the small, elegant space. As she stepped under the cascading water, she closed her eyes, letting it wash over her, trying to cleanse herself from the remnants of the fight, from the memories of what had happened, what she had done.
But no matter how much the water burned against her skin, no matter how many times she scrubbed at the blood and dirt that clung to her, she couldn’t scrub away the feeling of loss, of betrayal.
Her mind kept drifting back to Kara. Kara, who had trusted her when no one else had. Kara, who had made her feel something she hadn’t felt in years,.something she hadn’t wanted to feel. Love.
Lena felt her throat tighten as memories of the moments they shared flooded her thoughts. The first time Kara had kissed her,.how soft her lips had been, how the world seemed to freeze in that instant. How she had held Kara after they made love, how safe, how alive she had felt. It was more than just passion; it was connection, something deep and unspoken that bound them together in a way that Lena had never thought possible.
And then, that night, when they had said the words. I love you. Lena had never imagined she would be able to say it to anyone,.let alone to someone like Kara, someone so full of light and warmth. She had always believed herself to be beyond love, beyond that weakness. But with Kara, it was different. Kara had cracked through her walls, and for the first time in years, Lena had allowed herself to believe in something that wasn’t based on manipulation or survival.
But now… now, everything was in jeopardy.
Lena’s hand gripped the shower wall, the sting of the water against her skin doing little to numb the pain spreading through her chest. She had killed Andrea to protect them, to protect Kara and Alex. End not because of a job...
Lena had told herself it was for the greater good, that protecting Kara was the only thing that mattered. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized how selfish her actions had been. She had told herself she didn’t care about Alex, that she didn’t care about the mission. But that was a lie. She did care. She cared because Kara cared.
And in the end, that was what had changed everything for Lena.
She rested her head against the cool tile, allowing the tears to flow freely now. She couldn’t hold them back anymore. It had been so long since she had cried,.so long since she had let herself be vulnerable, weak. But here, under the hot stream of water, she gave in.
She cried for the things she couldn’t fix, for the choices she had made, for the truth she had hidden for so long. She cried for the woman she had once been, and the woman she had become. She cried for Kara, for the love she couldn’t protect. She cried because she wasn’t sure if she could ever make things right.
After what felt like an eternity, Lena finally turned off the water, stepping out of the shower. Her reflection in the mirror stared back at her, but the person she saw wasn’t the cold, calculating assassin she had been for so many years. She was something else now. Someone else. The woman who had allowed herself to love, to be loved. The woman who didn’t know how to fix the mess she had made.
She ran a towel over her face, wiping away the last of the tears. She didn’t have time to linger on her emotions, not now. She had to act. She had to find a way to make this right.
But as her fingers traced over the wet skin of her neck, a small smile flickered at the corners of her lips, one that didn’t quite reach her eyes. The smile wasn’t happy, nor was it sad. It was a mixture of both. Because in that fleeting moment, she realized something: she had never felt so alive as she did when she was with Kara. No matter how dark her past was, no matter how complicated their future seemed, there was something in Kara that pulled her back from the brink.
And for the first time in a long while, Lena wasn’t sure what was next. She didn’t have a plan, didn’t know how to fix what she had broken.
But she was willing to try. For Kara.
Because despite everything, despite the lies, despite the killing, despite the path she had walked, Lena knew one thing for sure:
She couldn’t lose Kara. Not now. Not ever.
Chapter Text
Lena was still reeling from the emotions of the shower, trying to regain some semblance of control when she heard the knock. It was a soft sound, tentative, almost like whoever it was was unsure of whether they should be there at all.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She moved quickly, instinctively, reaching for the gun hidden in the drawer by the door. She didn’t know who it could be. Could it be someone sent to kill her? Andrea’s allies? Or worse, someone with ties to her dark past?
Lena was no stranger to danger, and her instincts were always sharp. She clicked the safety off, her hand steady as she inched toward the door. Her mind raced with possibilities, trying to gauge the threat. She wasn’t ready for this. Not right now.
When she opened the door, her breath caught in her throat.
Kara stood there, bathed in the soft glow of the hallway light, her expression unreadable but intense. The weight of the unspoken words between them was palpable, thick in the air.
“Kara…” Lena murmured, her voice raw, yet relieved to see the woman she had grown so attached to standing there.
Kara stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, her gaze never leaving Lena’s. She didn’t look angry, at least not in the way Lena had expected. There was something else in her eyes, something deeper, something that seemed to be both fragile and fierce.
“I need the truth, Lena,” Kara said softly, but there was steel beneath her words. Her voice trembled just slightly, as if she were holding back a flood of emotions, but she wasn’t backing down. “I can’t go on like this. I need to know what’s really going on. All of it.”
Lena swallowed hard, the weight of Kara’s gaze forcing her to face the reality of everything she had kept hidden. The lies, the deception, the reasons behind everything. She had never been good with honesty, she had built her life on manipulation and control but now, standing before Kara, she couldn’t bring herself to hide anything anymore.
Lena moved toward the living room, gesturing for Kara to sit, though she could feel the tension between them like an electric current. She set the gun down, her hands trembling ever so slightly as she realized how much her life had changed in just a few short months.
“I owe you that much,” Lena said quietly, her voice breaking with the weight of her own confession. “The truth, I mean.”
Kara nodded, settling into the seat Lena had offered, her body tense but her eyes full of a quiet understanding.
Lena paced in front of her, her mind spinning, the words she had been avoiding for so long now tumbling out of her mouth in a rush.
“I was sent to kill Alex.” The words tasted like acid on her tongue. “That’s how it started. My family… my blood… they’ve always been assassins, Kara. My job was to eliminate targets, and Alex was one of them. But I couldn’t do it. Not when I met you.”
Kara’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What does me meeting me have to do with it?”
Lena paused, her heart hammering in her chest as the gravity of her confession settled in. She had never allowed herself to be this vulnerable, this exposed, but Kara deserved to know. Kara deserved to understand her, all of her, the dark and the light.
“You’re the reason I couldn’t kill Alex,” Lena said, her voice thick with emotion. “From the moment I met you, I… I didn’t expect it. I didn’t want it. But you changed me, Kara. You made me feel something I haven’t felt in years. And the truth is, I never cared about anyone like I care about you. Not in all my life.”
Kara’s eyes widened, her lips trembling as she processed the weight of Lena’s words. There was shock there, but also something else. A quiet sadness.
“But…” Kara’s voice was soft, broken. “But you were using me? You used me to get close to Alex? To… to get to my sister?”
Lena felt like the air had been knocked out of her lungs, her heart twisting painfully. She had known this question was coming, but that didn’t make it easier.
“No,” Lena whispered. “I didn’t use you, Kara. I didn’t plan for any of this. I never wanted to hurt you. I only wanted to protect you from all the things that I’ve done, from the people I’ve been forced to be. I never planned on falling in love with you. And I didn’t use you… I swear. My goal was to kill discreetly Alex but I met you and I couldn't.”
Kara’s hands shook slightly, her lips trembling as if she were trying to hold back the storm of emotions building inside her. She looked at Lena, her eyes searching for something that had gone missing, something Lena hadn’t been able to give her truth, trust, honesty.
“So, you’re telling me that you couldn’t kill my sister because you fell in love with me?” Kara asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lena nodded, her heart breaking all over again. “Yes. That’s exactly it. You made me want to be better, to be someone I didn’t think I could be. And that… that’s the one thing I couldn’t let go of. Not for the world.”
Tears began to form in Kara’s eyes, her breath shaky as she took in everything Lena had confessed. “Lena, you lied to me. You lied to me about everything. I trusted you all my heart and I suffered a lot in the past.”
Lena felt the sting of those words, but she didn’t look away. “I know, Kara. And I’m sorry. I’ve lied, I’ve betrayed your trust, and I will never forgive myself for that. But the truth is, I never wanted this life, never wanted this path. I never wanted to bring you into the darkness of what I am. But I can’t change that now.”
Kara was silent for a long time, her fingers twisted together as she processed everything. It was clear she was struggling, torn between the person she loved and the betrayal she felt. Lena had shattered the fragile trust they had built, and though Kara could see the sincerity in her eyes, the wound was deep.
“So what now, Lena?” Kara asked finally, her voice trembling but steady. “You told me the truth, but what does that mean for us? Where do we go from here?”
Lena swallowed, a lump in her throat. She had no answers, no clear path forward. The weight of everything that had happened pressed on her chest like an iron vice. She could feel her world slipping away, but the only thing she knew for sure was that she couldn’t bear to lose Kara. Not like this. Not after everything.
“I don’t know,” Lena admitted softly, her voice breaking. “But I know one thing. I love you, Kara. And I want to prove that. I want to be the person you deserve. I’ll do whatever it takes to make things right, but I can’t do it without you.”
Kara didn’t answer immediately. She just stared at Lena, her eyes filled with hurt and confusion, but there was something else too, something that still glimmered deep down, a flicker of hope that hadn’t yet gone out.
Lena held her breath, waiting for the words that would either tear them apart or pull them closer.
And after a long, painful silence, Kara finally spoke.
“I don’t know if I can trust you again, Lena. But… I can’t just forget what we had either.”
Lena’s heart skipped a beat, and though it wasn’t the answer she had hoped for, it was a start. It was all she could ask for.
“I’ll wait,” Lena whispered, her voice raw. “For as long as it takes. I’ll wait for you to find your way back to me.”
And in that moment, as the tension between them hung thick in the air, Lena knew one thing for certain: no matter what came next, she would never stop fighting for Kara.
Kara walked out of Lena’s penthouse, her mind swirling, heart pounding. Every step away from Lena felt like a step into a black hole, and for the first time in a long time, she felt small. Lost.
How could she reconcile what she felt for Lena with the life she had known? Lena had told her the truth, she was a killer, trained to kill, bred from a family that had stained its hands with blood. And Kara had fallen in love with her. Her. A woman who had deceived her, manipulated her, and yet had also fought to protect her.
Her thoughts were a tangled mess of contradictions. Lena hadn’t killed Alex… That meant something, right? But it also meant everything was more complicated than it seemed. Because everything she had been told, everything she had learned as Supergirl, pointed to Lena’s family being the enemy. They were the ones who dealt in shadows, in death, in betrayal. But Lena wasn’t like them. Or at least, she wasn't entirely like them.
Kara had loved Lena, had wanted to believe that the woman she had kissed and held, the woman who had opened herself up to her, was capable of redemption. But how could she reconcile that love with the cold reality of Lena’s life? She had always lived by her ideals, truth, justice, and doing what was right. And yet… this, Lena didn’t fit into her world.
But there she was, in her apartment, surrounded by the city she had vowed to protect. She was alone, and she felt it more than she ever had in her life. The words Lena had said echoed in her ears: I love you.
But how could you love me, Lena? Kara thought bitterly. How can you love me when everything you've done has been a lie?
Her phone buzzed on the coffee table, pulling her from her thoughts. She glanced at it.
It was a message from Lena.
Kara’s chest tightened as she hesitated, biting her lip. She thought about ignoring it, blocking everything out. But something inside her wouldn’t let her. She couldn't ignore Lena. Not yet.
With a shaky hand, Kara opened the message.
Lena: Kara, I know you’re angry. I know I’ve hurt you, and I can’t ask for your forgiveness. But please know, I never wanted to cause you pain. I never wanted to be the reason you’re torn between who you are and who you love. I’m so sorry. I love you. Always.
Kara’s eyes filled with tears. She read the message again, her heart a battleground between the woman she had loved and the woman who had done unspeakable things.
But then, a part of her, the part that loved began to drown out the logical thoughts, the doubts, the fear. What is love? She had asked herself that before, when she first kissed Lena, when she felt the depth of what they shared. Love wasn’t about perfection. It wasn’t about having all the answers or being without flaws.
Kara took a deep breath, then pressed her thumb to the phone screen to reply.
Kara: You didn't break me, Lena. I love you, but I don’t know how to forgive you. I don't know how to forget. I feel lost, like I don't even know who I am anymore. But I… I can’t pretend I don’t still want you. I still love you, even if it hurts.
As soon as she sent the message, Kara felt her chest tighten in anticipation.
Minutes passed, and when her phone finally buzzed again, her breath hitched.
Lena: I know, Kara. I don’t deserve your love, but I’ll never stop loving you. You’ve changed me. And I’m sorry… I never meant to pull you into this. But if you want, I can give you space. If you need time, I’ll wait. Just… please don’t shut me out.
Kara couldn’t stop herself. Tears blurred her vision, and she felt herself trembling, an ache deep in her heart. What was she supposed to do?
She wasn’t ready to walk away. Not from Lena, not from the person she had become when they were together. But everything was a mess. Her life as Supergirl, her love for Lena, and the reality of the woman Lena was, it felt impossible to balance.
Kara’s finger hovered over the phone, her heart torn between logic and emotion.
She called Lena.
The phone rang once, twice, and then Lena picked up, her voice thick, but steady.
“Kara?”
Kara swallowed hard, trying to steady her breath. “Lena, I don’t know what to do. I’m so lost right now. Everything I thought I knew, everything I thought was true… it’s all shattered. I don’t know how to be with you when everything feels like a lie.”
There was a pause on the other end, and Kara could hear the soft, ragged sound of Lena breathing. She had always been so composed, so in control. But now, there was a vulnerability in Lena’s voice, something Kara had never heard before.
“Kara,” Lena whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “I know I’ve hurt you. I know you’re confused, and I understand if you can’t forgive me. But I need you to understand something: I never meant for any of this to happen. I never wanted to hurt you. But I love you, Kara. I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you. Please… please don’t let this be the end for us.”
Kara’s heart ached in her chest. She could hear the tears in Lena’s voice, the sincerity, the rawness. It was the sound of someone who had been broken by their own actions, someone who was desperate to make things right. And it made Kara feel the same way, broken and desperate. She loved Lena, but how could she navigate this?
“I want to be with you,” Kara whispered, her voice trembling. “But it’s hard. I don’t know how to fix this. I feel like I’m falling in love with a woman who’s… she’s a killer, Lena. And I don’t know how to make sense of it.”
Lena’s voice cracked, and Kara could hear the strain in it. “I know. I know what I am. And I never wanted you to love me because of that. I just wanted you to love me, Kara… because of me. The person I am when I’m with you. I love you so much.”
Kara paused, her pulse racing. She had never felt so torn in her entire life.
And then, the words slipped from her mouth, words she hadn’t even intended to say, but couldn’t stop.
“I love you too, Lena. I love you so much.”
There was a long silence on the other end. Then, a shaky breath from Lena. “Kara…”
Kara could feel the electric pull between them through the phone. She knew it was messy, complicated, dangerous even. But all of that felt distant, drowned out by the weight of the love they shared, the raw, aching connection that neither of them could deny.
“Kara…” Lena said again, her voice lower now, filled with longing and desperation. “Can I… Can I kiss you? I need you, Kara. I need to feel you, to touch you. I need to make love to you. Please… come back to me.”
Kara’s breath caught in her throat, her heart racing. She didn’t have an answer. There were so many things left unsaid, so much damage between them. But in that moment, all she could think of was Lena’s voice, the way it broke when she said those words.
And Kara couldn’t bring herself to say no.
“I’m coming,” she whispered. “I’m coming, Lena. I want you too.”
The line went silent, but neither of them needed to say more.
Kara was already halfway out the door, ready to face the woman she loved, even if the world around them was falling apart.
