Work Text:
The sun shone through the window in Kaveh's shared bedroom. Its light found its way through his shut eyelids and forced him awake.
He laid there a moment, allowing himself to properly wake up before he sat upright. He yawned and cast a glance beside him, to where Alhaitham slept.
The spot was empty, although Kaveh had known that from the moment he woke up. It's not very unusual— in fact, it happened most mornings— but he did sort of wish Alhaitham had stuck around for this particular morning. Just for Kaveh's birthday.
Eventually, he did manage to get out of bed to actually get dressed. He didn't plan anything for today, so maybe he could just catch up on some commissions or something like that.
To his surprise, he found Alhaitham standing in the kitchen, cooking something.
"I thought you left already." Kaveh hummed. He walked into the kitchen and stood beside his partner, watching him cook.
"I'm off today." Alhaitham replied simply. Honestly, what did Kaveh expect?
"Oh." A brief moment of silence fell between them.
"Happy birthday. Did you sleep well?"
The sudden question brought Kaveh's attention up, towards Alhaitham's face. He smiled a little at seeing how tired he looked.
"I did. Doesn't look like you did, though." He teased, just a bit. He got a hum in return, which was probably just Alhaitham acknowledging that he'd said something without having to actually speak.
There was another silence-filled pause before Alhaitham decided to talk again. "...What do you want to do today?"
"Mm, I don't really care." Kaveh leaned his shoulder against Alhaitham's, letting his head rest a bit on him. Alhaitham didn't push him off or even react, so this was probably okay. "Let's just eat first... then maybe we can go out somewhere." He suggested.
"Alright. If that's what you want to do." His miniature smile did not escape Kaveh's notice.
"It is." And Kaveh smiled, too. He leaned up a little to kiss his cheek. "I love you."
The response he got was almost instant, and equally fond. "Love you too."
