Reverence

Summary:

"Silently, he harbored a shameful hope that love would find its way to not just the girl, but the prince. "

Or alternatively:
Ralsei tries to tell himself he only feels reverence for the Angel.

---

This is an angsty fic based on some early chapter 1 theories/headcanons that Ralsei actually had a crush on the player lol.

Notes:

I always found this theory/headcanon had interesting from a narrative and (perhaps) philosophical perspective. Like, damn, imagine being in a video game and yearning for your creator. It reminded me of Doki Doki Literature Club in a way.

(Also google docs says this is 300 words, but for some reason AO3 is counting it as 299???)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“THE ANGEL, BANISHED, WILL FINALLY MEET WITH ITS DESIRE.”

Ralsei gazed up pensively to that prophecy panel. The Angel was a messiah to the light and dark world alike. Its light would be what would save their world from eternal darkness.

The panel contained what it looked like, at least he thought so. Though it was beyond his full comprehension, its form captivated him. It gave a face to the being that travelled along with him inside the hero known as the cage.

He raised a paw to rub the glass, as if caressing the Angel’s cheek.

A heavy breath escaped him. He felt reverence for the deity. Just reverence. That was all it was.

Though Ralsei couldn’t help but feel his face pinken as he thought about all the tender and loving things the Angel did as it possessed Kris. The Angel wouldn’t stop hugging him. It got him a plushie during their adventure in the Cyber World. In the greenroom, it had even said his face was cute.

Did it do those things for everybody, or was he just special?

No.

No, Ralsei wasn’t special. He was a Darkner — a figment of a lightner’s imagination, they themselves figments of Heaven’s imagination. He wasn’t real, even in an already unreal world.

Yet his feelings felt so, so real.

This feeling… Ralsei knew a lot of things, but he didn’t know what this feeling was.

Worship?

Admiration?

Love?

Ralsei shook his head as if trying to knock the thought away and buried his face into his paws. No, no, no! He wasn’t allowed to feel these types of feelings, especially for someone like the Angel.

… and yet he did.

Silently, he harbored a shameful hope that love would find its way to not just the girl, but the prince.

Notes:

I wanted to challenge myself again to write another short angsty thing! I hope you enjoyed!

(I wrote this way back in July and just forgot to post it, whoops!)
