Summary
Rocky and Grace have nearly arrived at the Blip A, from their little trip over at Adrian. But before they can reach Rocky’s ship, they’re caught in a powerful field of unknown energy. They make it out on the other side without more than a panic attack, but something here feels off.
Blip A shows up on their radar, but it doesn’t look as it should. Instead of the usual geometric shape of one, it’s two ships, connected to each other through a tunnel.
And one of them says “Hail Mary” along the side of its hull.

The people of Erid understand discoveries and science can take time, but there is only so much hope they can grasp onto after so many years. There are only so many prayers to be said and only so many scenarios that can be dreamed.
They are expecting a dejected crew -if anyone returns at all, not an alien ship and an even more alien person, supported by the only Eridian survivor, an antisocial engineer who knows nothing but facts and how to make anything he wants tick.

Summary
It had been a long and difficult 27 years since the Hail Mary had launched. Not as terrible as it could have been, but not easy. Humanity had survived and adapted, as it always did. There had been terrible wars. There had been incredible acts of kindness. There had been massive scientific breakthroughs. And now, there were two distant blips of Petrova-light, picked up by the Deep Space Network, hurtling home. Two probes, braking hard as they hurtled toward Earth holding the secrets to its salvation. They were late, or at least, not very early, but they were here.
Grace may have made his peace with dying to save Rocky, but Rocky insists they return to Earth.
