Work Text:
“la muerte es muy hermosa, ¿cómo será de bella que nadie ha vuelto de allá?” - chavela vargas
death will come to take my hand pretty soon,
i put on my best gown as death will walk me down the isle
back to my bride.
my sweet darling
left me
left us
many years ago
and every morning since then
i’ve been sitting on our porch
waiting for death and his bus
to take me back home.
but i know that today is the day
i can feel it in my bones,
i’ve said my goodbyes,
wrote my hellos
put on my white gown
and sat on my porch.
death must be beautiful
as i know that my love would’ve done everything
to be sitting here at home.
death must be worthy
worthy of leaving a beautiful life
worthy of breaking thousands of hearts
worthy of letting my hand fall and all alone.
i wonder, i bet, i’m almost certain:
that
death must be painted
in sunset colors
death must smell
as the salt in the ocean
death must sound like
my manda’s laugh
and death must feel
like her touch
death tastes,
and i know this for sure,
death tastes likes her
her lips, her chapstick, her kisses
death has her hand on my neck,
her arm surrounding my waist
death has arrived
and she has her eyes.
“i’m glad it took you so long, my love”
she’s dead but no longer death,
she takes my hand
i lose my wrinkles,
she has her young eye spark
we sit at a porch surrounded by sunset
oh death
death means the end of life
as it’s beauty sure is
breathtaking.
as i can feel
everything i’ve ever felt
with a deep breathe or no air
as i can answer
everything i’ve ever wonder
with just looking into her eyes
as i’m at peace knowing
that with death
what i did,
what i lived
what i felt
doesn’t die.
oh death
what a pleasure you are.
