Work Text:
Seven days. Sevens days aboard a luxury yacht. That’s what Kylo had gotten Hux to reluctantly agree to for a vacation. But now only two days were left and the past five they’d been cooped up in their cabin, Hux dealing with nausea and cramps and hardly able to get out of bed.
Five months pregnant with twins the general had not had it easy. He was constantly sick, tired, moody, and even after the first trimester had ended nausea had only let up slightly. But at least he wasn’t working, Kylo thought.
“Where’s my datapad?” Hux asked sternly, arms crossed sitting on the edge of their bed.
Kylo sighed. “Good morning love, how are you feeling?”
Hux huffed and slowly stood up. He began shuffling around the suite checking drawers and shelves he could reach. “You hid it, didn't you?”
Kylo stood up walking over to him and placing his hands on Hux’s shoulders, gently massaging them to calm him down. “Why do you need it? We’re on vacation, you're supposed to be relaxing.”
“I’m not asking to work I simply need to make sure Mitaka hasn’t sent me any emergency messages.” He exasperatedly explained.
“Armitage, you know if you check one thing you’re going to end up doing work for hours. They can manage without you for a few more days.” He reassured him.
Hux scowled “How can you be so sure?”
“Because I’m not there to mess things up.” He smiled playfully.
Hux sighed and Kylo thought he caught the slight trace of a smile. “I suppose you’re right… but I still don’t like it.”
“You got up out of bed though. That's good. Are you feeling better?” Kylo asked arms going around his husbands waist to support him and take a little weight off his feet.
“A little.” Hux admitted placing his hand on the ever growing baby bump and resting his head against Kylo's shoulder. “I don’t want to vomit or die so that's an improvement." He joked dryly.
“Are you feeling up to exploring the ship today?”
“I don’t know Ren, I look disgusting and my feet hurt already.”
Kylo frowned, “You do not look disgusting, you are handsome, you are beautiful, and everyone will agree.” Kylo said sternly. “And I can rent a hoverchair if you need,” he added.
“I am not using a hoverchair, I can walk fine.” Hux huffed. “And you’re just saying that cause you’re my husband, I look like a Purrgil!”
“You do not look like a Purrgil, you look pregnant.”
“Exactly!” Hux interjected.
“Baby, no one is going to make fun of you for being pregnant. If they do, I will kill them.” He kissed him gently on the head.
“Well that would end this vacation early.”
“Don’t get any ideas.” Kylo laughed. “How about this, we just go out for a little bit, if you start to feel bad we can head back and I’ll give you your datapad, just try to enjoy this okay?”
Hux nodded. “Alright I can do that.” he replied calmly “I am sorry though…”
“For what?” Kylo questioned.
“For ruining your vacation, I know you wanted this to be romantic but I’ve wasted most of it.” He looked down sadly.
“Love, I wouldn’t trade these past five days for the world. Getting to spend time alone with you taking care of you and the twins is more than I could ever want.” He smiled, placing his palm on Hux’s stomach, reaching out with the force gently so he could feel the presence of his unborn children. “I’m just sorry you had to be sick for all of it.”
“It’s okay, I’ve dealt with worse.” Hux smiled. “Shall we get ready then?”
“We shall.”
About an hour later Kylo and Hux had exited their cabin and were walking along the halls of the yacht. Other people on the cruise kept saluting or bowing to them and Kylo got the feeling Hux didn’t much like to be recognised. He stayed close to Kylo, gripping onto him harder than he realized. His loose fitting tunic was comfortable but certainly did not conceal his pregnancy. Every time someone passed them he turned to look at the wall and a disgusted scowl was permanently plastered on his face.
“Do you want to go to the observation deck?” Kylo asked him quietly.
Hux looked up, somewhat confused. “I thought they said that it was closed at the moment.”
“Love, we are the leaders of the First Order. What's closed for everyone doesn’t necessarily mean it’s closed for us.” He smiled.
“Well,” Hux thought, “I suppose it would be nice to get up there before the crowd.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
The two of them headed for the door to the observation deck and Kylo went up to the control panel trying to angle himself so Hux couldn’t see what he was doing. In actuality the observation deck was closed for everyone including them, but Hux didn’t need to know he was bending the rules a little.
“Whats taking so long?” Hux asked trying to peer over his shoulder.
“Uhm… I’m putting in a special VIP code they gave me.” Kylo lied, reaching out with the force to undo the mechanical lock. The door slid open and Kylo glanced around to make sure they weren’t being watched before gesturing Hux inside. “There you go, your private show awaits.”
Hux stepped onto the observation deck. The floor was a marbled pattern of clear crystal reflecting little rainbows around the platform, and there was no ceiling or walls, instead they were protected from the vacuum of space by a large ray shield. Hux looked up walking around and taking in the empty deck.
“It just stars Kylo.” He laughed. “A space cruise isn’t exactly much new of a concept when you’ve lived on a ship practically your whole life.”
“Yes well, this is a galactic cruise liner, we stop on a new planet every day you’ve just been too sick to go.” Kylo explained following close behind.
“Ah-”
It sounded like Hux was about to say more but he stumbled back in surprise when a giant ray-like creature swooped down from above. Kylo quickly caught him and set him back upright which Hux tried to ignore. Suddenly a whole herd of the creatures cruised through space above them quietly grazing on small glowing green orbs Kylo recognised as interstellar plankton.
“Oswaft…” Hux said breathlessly, watching the creatures with awe. “They’ve never been this far from their home nebula. So few have seen them in person, this is amazing-”
“Not just stars huh?” Kylo smiled proudly.
The Oswaft dove and circled in intricate patterns, long colorful tentacles grabbing plankton and shoveling it into their circular mouths, their jelly like purple skin pulsated with a soft pink glow. They got up close to the ray shield, curiously investigating the strange ship in their path.
“They’re sending messages to each other!” Hux commented excitedly, unable to hide his smile which Kylo wasn’t even sure he was aware he had.
“They’re what?”
“The pink glow on their tummies it’s in a rhythmic pattern, a call and response. See look,” Hux explained pointing “Those two closest to the ship are repeating the same pattern, then that one further away has sent a different pattern back to them. Then it turns to its friend and gives the first pattern, and that one responds with the second one. and now both of them are coming closer to the ship.”
“Wow,” Kylo was impressed. “They’re telling each other to come over here… how did you even catch that?”
“I have an eye for detail.” Hux watched the Oswaft intently and walked over to a bench, gingerly sitting down. Kylo came up behind him resting his hands on Hux’s shoulders.
“I didn’t know you liked animals so much.”
Hux looked up at him, “I mean why wouldn’t you? Animals are logical creatures, They’re complex, and in many ways far more advanced than most humanoids.”
The Oswaft shifted their path swooping below the ship and out of sight. Hux sighed and closed his eyes but quickly opened them again as the yacht jerked suddenly.
“What happened?” He asked, instinctively placing a hand on his belly in a protective nature.
“I don’t know.” Kylo responded crossing the deck and peering out through the ray shield to try and see what was ahead of them. What he saw was massive swirling clouds of colored gas and bright pockets of light engulfing the nose of the ship.
“I think we’re entering a star cluster.” Kylo said to Hux watching as the gas clouds got closer.
“Is it dangerous for us to be out here then?” Hux asked concerned.
“No, we’re fine, we’ve got a ray seild.”
“If you're certain…” Hux responded skeptically.
“Don’t be nervous about it babe, we’ll be fine.” kylo said, trying to reassure him.
“Only certain ray shields are built for that kind of exposure- oh~” As Hux spoke the sparkling clouds of gas glistened overhead, shimmering like jewels above them. Solar flairs shot out from the molten stars in the distance like a natural light show. Hux stood up, watching the sky and crossing the deck to where Kylo stood, still keeping his hand on his belly.
Kylo wasn’t watching the star cluster however. His eyes were fixated on his husband. Hux’s green eyes sparkled and his fiery red hair was glowing in the warm light. He looked so ethereal with his pale slender fingers pressed gently against his tunic of soft blue.
“You’re so beautiful~” Kylo spoke breathlessly, only half aware he was speaking out loud.
Hux placed his other hand against the Kylo’s cheek, smiling softly. “I know, you remind me often.”
“And you’re carrying my children, our children… we’re going to be parents.” Tears formed in the corners of Kylo’s eyes as he gently placed his hand atop Hux's, staring down at his belly irreverently.
“Kylo… Love, are you crying?” Hux almost laughed, but stopped himself, feeling bad.
“No- Yes- maybe?” Kylo smiled as a tear ran down his cheek.
“Oh come here.” Hux said, smiling, pulling Kylo into a kiss. Kylo fell into it, his arms wrapping around his husband, freezing them in time as the light of forming stars danced overhead.
Once they parted they stared back at each other in calm serenity.
“It’s getting a bit hot isn’t it.” Hux said abruptly and Kylo realized that it was getting considerably hot on the deck. “Are you sure these ray shields can withstand the storm?”
“Yeah maybe we should go!” Kylo responded hurriedly ushering Hux off of the deck and sighing once they were back in the hall and the door was closed.
“I’m sorry, babe” Kylo apologized running his hand through his hair. “maybe they had the observation deck closed for a reason...”
“It was very nice while it lasted, but I’d rather not get roasted alive.” Hux said playfully, “Maybe ask an employee before you use the force to break into somewhere allright?”
“You saw that?” Kylo asked, shocked.
“Ren, If there’s one thing you‘re known for, it certainly isn’t subtlety.” He commented with a slight smirk.
“Fine you got me. I heard there’s a glass roof over the pool if you’d like to watch the rest from there. We’ve still got a bit of time before the next docking If you’re feeling up for it.” Kylo offered.
“The pool would be nice- and Ren…” Hux’s voice trailed off.
“Yes love?”
“Thank you, for this, for vacation, for being here and taking care of me. I feel like I take it for granted sometimes, because it doesn’t always feel real, because I don’t feel like I deserve it.”
Kylo smiled softly, “everyone deserves someone to love them. I’m just lucky that person is you.”
“I love you Kylo.” Hux replied softly, in almost a whisper.
“I know.”
