Future Trunks' eyes are open, curious and so different to the Trunks Goten knows when he looks back at him. It makes him feel like they’re strangers, which makes sense he realizes, since technically speaking they totally are.
Or; Goten is in love with his best friend, and sparring with the man from the future who shares his face isn't making things any less confusing. Nor is his Trunks' bizarre jealous streak upon discovering this new development.
