Chapter Text
Sirius and Remus began going out midway through fourth year. They had been going out for no more than a couple of weeks, getting closer to a month of their relationship. No one really knew besides the two of them and their roommates, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. They were both rather supportive of the relationship despite the day and age they lived in. They had found out a week and a half into their relationship when James and Peter caught the pair curled up together on Remus’s bed after a particularly bad full moon.
All of Remus’s friends knew that he was autistic, this didn’t mean that he liked to show that side of him when it was bad. He liked to keep it hidden, he would lie he was absolutely fine when he clearly wasn’t. This act didn’t hold up long once Remus and Sirius began their relationship.
Sirius saw right through Remus’s act, but didn’t confront him or tell him immediately that he knew either.
Sirius kept to himself.
Eventually Sirius thought to himself, I would have to help Moony when he is in distress, when it all becomes too much, I need to know how I can help, how I can be there for him, but I don’t want to go up to him and say ‘Oh hey Moony, just wondering… What do I do when you become too overwhelmed?’ I mean I could but I don’t know how he would take it. Would you be appreciative that I had taken time to ask? To care? Would you think little of me? Would you tell me if I did ask?
Sirius’s thoughts were rushing, he wanted to support his boyfriend but in a quiet manner, a way that would appear to be loving but not a direct cause of overstimulation.
A way to show Remus that he was there if he wanted him to talk, or to cuddle or just exist.

One evening in the common room everyone was loud, the lights bright, movement left and right. Remus was no doubt overstimulated, causing him to retreat to his shared dorm to get away from the chaos.
Sirius noticed Remus’s disappearance almost immediately after Remus had left to escape to the tranquility of their dorm room.
Sirius let him be for a couple of minutes before he left the game of exploding snaps to go up and check in on him.
Upon entering the room, it was pitch black, nothing but a glint of stars in the sky and the crest moon shining in the room. Sirius found Remus’s bed, curtains drawn but noticeable movement coming from inside. Sirius decided he would be better to whisper for a signal that he was allowed to enter in order not to disrupt Remus.
“Moony, can I come in?” Sirius asked in a hushed voice.
“Yea” a quiet voice came from within, strained. Upon approval Sirius gladly entered to find Remus under his weighted blanket but sitting up, fidgeting with his hands, slightly rocking forwards and backwards.
Sirius thought about asking if he was okay, but that was stupid of course he wasn’t okay, if he was he wouldn’t be nearly in a fetal position, but yet Sirius hadn’t a clue what to do or ask or even say to someone who was overstimulated and overwhelmed.
“What- er… What can I do to help?” Sirius asked, seemingly trying to present himself as being helpful. Remus tried to get words out but couldn’t manage to get anything out so he instead patted the material sitting beside him on the head of the bed. Sirius crawled over and sat there, careful not to initiate contact if the contact was not wanted.
Remus appeared to appreciate the understanding. He didn’t say anything else for the rest of the night, though he did eventually let Sirius cuddle him as they fell asleep together in Remus’s bed.
Sirius thought as he drifted off to sleep:
They were still in their uniform
Sirius hadn’t slept in his bed for longer than an hour for over two weeks
This made Sirius smile, happy to be in his boyfriend's presence, to hold Remus in his arms and exchanging warmth. Making Sirius melt into a deep warm sleep.
