Work Text:
Lucy smiles to herself, proudly, now that they have a plan to get Tim over to Metro. He gave up his job for her and she is willing to do whatever it takes so that he’s not sitting at a desk anymore. She hates seeing how miserable he is at that desk. Then, they all hears John’s voice and they scramble to clean the murder board up. Lucy sits on the chair when she sees Tim walk into the living room.
“Hey.” He smiles at everyone, but his eyes land on Lucy, of course. She can feel the heat creep up her cheeks when she sees him staring at her. “Are you okay?”
Lucy grins at him. “Yeah, never better.” There’s no seat for Tim so she moves her head at him and points to her seat. Tim knows better than to argue with Lucy so he easily sits. She leans on the arm of the chair.
“Sorry I’m late to the party.” Tim breaks the awkward silence.
Angela teases him and Lucy’s grateful for that. “You got here just in time. We were thinking of maybe playing some games. A great way to stay cool in this heat. It’s nice of Nolan and Bailey to share their house with us.” Lucy doesn’t think that their friends know about their new relationship, but she isn’t sure. She doesn’t want to give it away because they can’t keep their eyes off each other. Lucy's surprised that Tim hasn’t reached out to touch her yet. Ever since they got together, Tim loves to touch her in some way, which surprises her in many ways. There’s so many things that Tim has surprised her with since they started dating.
“I mean I just came to watch the game.” Tim knows that’s not what Angela means.
John interjects. “Do you want a beer Tim?” He goes to get up and grab him one.
“I’ve got it, John. Does anyone else need a refill?” Lucy interjects and quickly goes into the kitchen, needing a moment to steady herself. Being in such close proximity to Tim and not being able to touch him is actually harder than she thought. Her cheeks go red thinking about him.
“I decided that I need a refill.” Lucy jumps when she sees Nyla standing there. “Wow, you always pay attention to your surroundings Lucy.”
Lucy just shakes her head and goes to grab two beers. “It’s been a long day and the heat is definitely getting to me. Those uniforms are no joke.” She lies easily, but Nyla doesn’t seem to believe her.
Instead of leaving, Nyla crowds her space and crosses her arms. “You can’t fool me, Chen. Not between my years of undercover training and being a cop. How long have you two been together?”
Lucy thought she would be nervous when people found out, but the relief that someone knows is almost instant. “Just over a month.” Her face immediately forms into a smile and Nyla notices.
“You two have never looked happier, especially grumpy cop over there. All I’ll say is, that it’s about damn time. You two are great together, but I make no promises that I won’t threaten him.” Lucy giggles and refills Nyla’s drink.
“I think I’ve put the fear into him enough for everyone. I’ve never been in a relationship like this. He’s pretty amazing.” Tim looks up and sees Lucy talking to Nyla. She quickly glances at him before finishing up with grabbing their drinks.
“Your secret is safe with me, but Angela is suspicious. As far as I can tell, no one else knows which surprises me.” Nyla squeezes her hand and grabs her glass.
Lucy has both beers and is grateful that Nyla walks out with her. She hands Tim his beer. “Thank you.” His smiles makes her feel weak in the knees.
Lucy resumes her seat near Tim and he takes his chance when he finds it. He has his beer in his left hand and moves it so it’s resting behind Lucy. To anyone else, it looks like his hand is still, but he’s using his pinky to run along Lucy’s back, just above her pant line. She shivers when she feels his hand and takes a sip of her drink so she doesn’t give herself away.
“Where’s Kojo?” Wesley breaks up the conversation the others are having.
“He’s with Genny having the time of his life. The boys have enjoyed having him over every once in a while, especially as they adjust to Los Angeles.” Tim smiles softly thinking of his sisters and nephews.
“Is she settled in okay?” Lucy listens to their conversations buzzing around her. Even with the cool air of the house, she still feels flushed. Maybe it’s from Tim being so close or maybe it’s feeling his soft fingers on her back, but she needs a moment to herself.
“I’m just running to the bathroom.” She quietly says and sneaks off. Her heart is pounding and there’s a part of her that wishes Tim had stayed home. She wants nothing more than to say she needs to go and then go spend the night with him. Lucy knows that he has a generator. He would be prepared for a zombie apocalypse if it were to happen. Instead, though, he came here and she has to pretend that they’re still just friends. Maybe she should admit it out loud, even though they both agreed to keep quiet about their relationship.
Lucy goes into the bathroom and splashes cold water on her face. Her cheeks are flushed and she knows that they’re more pink than normal. Thankfully, she can blame the heat. She takes a moment and almost screams when the door opens. She’s about to fight, but her face softens when she sees Tim standing there. “God you scared the crap out of me.”
He crosses his arms and notices that Lucy licks her lips. “Well, you did leave the door unlocked.” He uncrosses his arms and he places them on the sink, with Lucy in between. Her back is to the sink and Tim’s moved so he’s closer to her. “And I’ve not been able to do this all day.”
His hands move again, but one wraps around her waist and the other cups her cheek. Their lips meet halfway and Lucy moans softly at the contact. They don’t separate for a few minutes and they are both breathless by the time they do. Tim’s face is still close to Lucy’s. “I’ve missed you.” He says honestly. “The need to be near you is too great.”
“I was really hoping that you’d stay home. I wasn’t planning on staying here long and then I was going to go straight to you.” Lucy looks up at him and she sees desire in his eyes. Once again, the heat rises in her cheeks. “Well, I can fake an emergency and then in thirty minutes, you can say you need to leave. Use Tamara or something as an excuse. Then you can come home to me.”
Lucy doesn’t miss the way he says home and it makes her heart rate increase. “I think coming home to you sounds perfect.” She then waits for him to leave.
“You kind of need to leave before me.” Tim doesn’t want to go though. “I mean, I’m more than happy to tell everyone about us and stop sneaking around. I want everyone to know that you’re mine.”
Something about her words ignites something inside of Tim. He can’t help himself and kisses her harder. Lucy moans louder when she feels Tim’s hands run through her hair and his body is impossibly close to her. “The need to touch you and kiss you is just too great. I’ve been gone just as long as you have so I have a feeling they already know.”
Lucy giggles and Tim feels her hand rest on his chest. “Let’s go see who notices first.” Lucy takes his hand and leads him out of the bathroom. Nyla winks at her and Angela notices first. Her eyes go wide when she sees them.
“You lied to me!” This surprises Lucy. She is smiling when she says it and Tim shrugs. “I’m happy for you two idiots.”
John is surprised because he’s not always in tune with his surroundings. “Wait you two are together?”
“Yes, John. We are together.” He’s surprised but also happy for them. “And Grey knows which is why someone decided to take a desk job so that I could stay at Mid-Wilshire.” Tim isn’t even mad that Lucy spilled that secret. “Wow, you gave up patrol for Lucy?” Angela shouldn’t be surprised.
“When you know, you know. I’d do it again every day so that I can see her every day.” The honesty from Tim surprises everyone.
Most people are used to grumpy, emotionless Tim. They’re all enjoying this side of him. “Now since this place is crowded, we are leaving. Thank you for letting me crash for a bit.”
Before anyone else can speak, Lucy grabs her bag and then drags Tim out of the house. “I’ll see you in ten minutes.” Her lips linger and then she hears whistling from the doorway. Tim throws his middle finger up at Angela who goes back inside, giggling loudly.
“I’ll see you soon, beautiful.” He shuts her car door and jogs to his truck. Lucy makes it to his house first, but not by much.
“It feels so good in here.” She says when she walks inside. “But you still have too many clothes on.” She pushes him into his bedroom and their clothes are shed quickly. The heat between them mixed with the cool air from the air conditioner makes Lucy’s skin tingle. Tim’s hands make her shiver and he smiles softly before tangling their lips together. The night was perfect and neither bothered with putting clothes on.
As soon as they arrived at work, Grey had his arms crossed with a wicked grin on his face. “I knew you two would crack quickly.”
“It’s worth it sir.” Tim says easily and he brushes his hand along Lucy’s. “She’s always worth it.”
