Work Text:
“Let’s get you inside and into bed, babe.” Lucy helps Tim out of the truck and into his house. “You need to stop trying to put so much pressure on your leg.” He had twisted his ankle the wrong way during a call and needed to stay off of his leg. Lucy helps Tim into the bed.
“Thank you for being here for me.” Tim looks at his girlfriend. They have only been together for three months, but both of them know that this relationship is serious.
Lucy runs her hands through Tim’s hair. “I’ll always be here for you.” She leans down and kisses him. “I’ll go get you some water and pain meds. I’m not leaving your side.” She makes sure that his leg is propped up and he’s not hurting too much before going to get what she needs. Tim sees her steal one of his shirts and a pair of sweatpants. He closes his eyes and focuses on listening to Lucy make her way around the house.
There’s a hand on his shoulder and he cracks his eyes open. “Here, take this.” Lucy helps him sit up and he swallows the medicine she brought. She sets the water bottle on his bedside table and slides into the bed. Lucy opens her arms and Tim maneuvers so that he’s laying in them. “How are you feeling?”
Tim’s head is laying on Lucy’s chest. “My leg hurts, but cuddling with you makes it better.” Lucy runs her hand through Tim’s hair and one of his arms slides around her stomach. It reaches her back and slides his fingers underneath.
“Cuddles make everything better.” Lucy murmurs. “I think these are my favorite moments with you. I never expected Tim Bradford to love cuddling.”
She can feel him chuckle against her. “I can’t give away all of my secrets, now can I? You’re the person who I love doing this with. Those are the absolute best date nights.”
Lucy doesn’t disagree with him. Dating Tim has been nothing short of incredible. She smiles to herself when she hears Tim speak. “Sometimes it’s hard to believe that we are really here. This has been a dream for me for so long, Luce.”
“I’ve wanted this for longer than I can remember and longer than I could ever admit. You really are one of the most important people in my life which is why I was scared to open my heart. I’m really glad that we took this chance.” Lucy kisses the top of his head and her fingers run along his arm. She feels him snuggle further into her chest.
“You’re everything to me.” He murmurs. “I have a confession to make.”
Lucy looks down at him and sees his head turned up looking at her. “And what’s that babe?” Her other hand runs through his hair.
She can see his face flush slightly. “I’ve been in love with you for a while. I dated Ashley because I thought you were off limits. It did nothing to help my feelings. I knew this risk would be worth it.”
“We did a terrible job at hiding our feelings, didn’t we? Chris was an ass and I regret that entire relationship, but it also brought us together.” Lucy leans down to kiss him. “And for that, I will forever be grateful. You’re mine now.”
Tim grins. “And you’re stuck with me.” Lucy shrugs and he shakes his head. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Tim Bradford.” Tim snuggles further into Lucy.
Tim takes a minute before speaking again. “I came into this relationship knowing that I want to marry you. I want kids with you and I want those grandkids with you.”
Lucy is a bit surprised, but she also isn’t. “Why else would I mention grandkids on our second date?” They both giggle. “You’re the person I can see building my life with. I used to only dream about that, but now it’s a reality. I can’t wait.”
“Neither can I, Luce.” He may as well keep going. “How many kids do you want?”
Lucy raises her eyebrows. “I’ve always wanted two or three. Of course, I’d love one of each, but as long as they’re healthy, that’s what’s important.”
“I want a little girl who looks like you.” Tim admits. “Having a boy is a bit terrifying.”
“You’re not your dad.” Lucy murmurs, already knowing the self doubt is slowly creeping in. “And our kids are going to be so lucky to have the most selfless, incredible man as a father.”
Lucy cups Tim’s cheek and leans down for another kiss. “I really can’t wait to see where our journey goes. You’ll be a really great mom one of these days.” She can tell that Tim’s getting more tired. His pain meds are kicking in, which makes her happy.
“Take a nap for now babe. I’m not going anywhere.” Tim hums and wraps his arms around her tighter.
“Mmm, k baby.” Her hands run up and down his back.
“But first, baby names.” Lucy giggles, not expecting that. “I really love the name Lana.”
“That’s a beautiful name.” Tim hums again. “I want a boy named after you.” She doesn’t know how he feels about that, but she can see he’s emotional. “He’d be named after the best man I know.”
“You’re amazing.” Tim blows out a breath. “I don’t mind the name Oliver for a boy. We can always have a Lucy junior.”
Lucy rolls her eyes. “That’s not happening. You’re tired babe. We have plenty of time to talk about baby names. Please get some sleep.”
“That’s too bad. I want you to be pregnant with our baby.” Lucy goes red and shakes her head at his antics. She knows that Tim may not remember this entire conversation.
Not even five minutes later, she can feel Tim’s breathing even out and he’s fast asleep. “Sleep well babe.” Lucy pulls out a book and reads while Tim sleeps. He has never once made fun of her romance novels, unlike previous boyfriends.
Tim starts to stir two hours later and sees Lucy staring at him. “Staring can be kind of creepy.”
Lucy rolls her eyes and slaps his shoulder. “I was thinking about you and our future. I’m really glad we’re on the same page.”
“Me too, Luce.” Tim yawns and starts to move. “I need to go to the bathroom.”
Lucy helps him up and into the bathroom. His leg is hurting and he needs to rest as much as possible. “Come on, let’s go back to bed.” They resume their previous positions and Tim is more than happy with that. “I’m going to order dinner for us. Did you want anything in particular?”
“I want you.” He says it seriously and Lucy bursts out laughing. “I can’t help it. I always crave you.”
“I think your pain meds are working.” Lucy pulls up her food delivery app and gets some comfort food. “We can eat and go back to sleep. I’ll be with you for the next few days too.”
“Good.” Tim doesn’t want Lucy to go anywhere so he tightens his arms around. “I don’t want to leave this bed. My leg is not feeling great.”
“And you don’t need to. I will always take care of you, although I always have even when you didn’t want to.” Lucy pinches his arm slightly.
“I was a mess back then, Luce. I will forever be grateful for everything you’ve done for me.” She thinks back to when she first met Tim and how far they’ve come. When he was hurt and when he went through everything with Isabel, Lucy was there. She would drop food and leave, but Tim always knew it was her. Lucy has the biggest heart and it’s one of the very many reasons that he loves her.
“Look at where we are now. Talking about marriage, babies, and grandbabies.” Tim’s lips curl upwards. “And while we are at it, I’m taking the Sergeant’s exam. You matter more and I don’t want to leave you. I’ve thought a lot about things and I don’t know want what I once used to.”
Tim’s breath hitches. “Luce.” She can hear the emotions in his voice.
“Tim, I’m doing this for me too. It is going to help my future within the department. Grey was very pleased to hear that and he’s helping me study.” It suddenly all clicks for Tim.
“Is that why you two have been riding together so much?” Lucy giggles and nods her head. “I’m proud of you Sergeant Chen.”
“Not yet. I have to pass the exam first.” He stops her.
“And you will. I have no doubt you’ll place first. You’re incredible.” He wipes a few tears that fall from her eyes.
Lucy pulls him in for a kiss and it gets heated until Tim hisses in pain. “I’m sorry babe.”
“That’s always worth it.” He moves some hair out of her face. “I love talking and thinking about our future.“
“Me too.” Dinner arrives and Lucy goes to grab it. They eat in bed and Lucy helps Tim get ready for bed when they’re finished.
“Thank you.” Tim tells her when she hands him more water and more meds.
When they’re finally settled, Tim looks back up at Lucy. “I pictured your face when I made the fake proposal to Ashley.”
Lucy’s eyes inside when she hears the confession. “That was still evil.”
“And I’ll always apologize about that. I was an idiot.” Tim mumbles.
“You’re long forgiven. I mean you are laying in my arms right now.” Lucy teases him. “Get some sleep babe. I can see how tired you are.”
“I love you Lucy.” Her heart feels so full. “And Lucy?”
“Yeah Tim?” She wonders what else he might say today.
“I’ve had a ring since after our second date.” Her jaw drops but then she sees that he’s already fast asleep.
Lucy runs her hand through his hair. “And my answer to you will always be yes.”
