Chapter Text
Dan was sitting in the café, holding his half-empty coffee in one hand, his gaze fixed on the window. He wasn't daydreaming-his focus was sharp, locked on a specific patrolling police student. The one who had saved his life.
Flashback
2030, evening wintertime. It is cold outside and Dan is heading home from school. Recently there have been quite a lot of police officers around town. This city sure is lively nowadays, especially with the number of crimes there have been recently. People aren’t happy and it shows. Desperate for money, resources, stimulation. Whatever it may be, there is a large chance they will take it out on other innocent people.
Dan: *sigh* I just wanna get home quickly, I'm so tired.
He thought to himself. Dan looks around and notices what looks like guards? Oh, what kind of uniform is that? They look different from what he just saw around the corner. On the back of their uniform it says “Police Student”. Interesting.
He suddenly runs into his friends from school on the way home.
1- Yo, you take this way home too?
2- Nice coincidence.
Dan- Seriously? You two? Doesn’t feel like a coincidence. Are you two stalking me?
He jokes.
All three decide to grab a quick meal before heading home since it's been 5 hours since lunch.
They walk towards a lively district lined with well-known restaurants. They’re bound to find something good to eat just across the bustling road. Before they make it across, a sudden car crash stops them in their tracks. A car speeding through the traffic collided into the vehicle in front right on the zebra crossing they were about to cross. People gather instantly, taking photos and videos to capture the accident. The police officers and students quickly respond to the scene.
2 -Wow, look. “Elite Officers”. It's rare to see them at a place like this.
1 -Prob needed extra surveillance. I mean with the crime rates right now too…
Dan stared at them and noticed one of the shorter police students. He laughed slightly.
Dan- Is it allowed for a police officer to be that short?
He tried joking. His friends looked at him confused.
2-You know those students are “Elites”...The entrance exam is intense so not many get in. That shortie gotta be hella strong.
Dan looked bewildered. What the hell was that supposed to mean? They’re students, young adults, some freshly out of high school. They can't be that special. He huffed in incredulity.
Dan-Sure…and I’m a gifted artisan.
He dismissed. Dan walked closer to the scene, wanting to get to the restaurant since he was starving, but also out of curiosity. How did these officers work? Were they really that special?
Seemed like the usual to him. Calling for an ambulance, carefully helping drivers and passengers out of the cars and trying to shoo people away. Nothing off, until one of the cars suddenly explodes. More panic erupts. Thankfully spectators were at a safe distance away.
Spectators on the road quickly dispersed, including Dan. They hurried onto the sides of the road for safety but Dan stared a second too long. He watched how the shorter officer was checking on a younger passenger and couldn’t help but find him cute.
A third car suddenly came speeding down the road. It was too fast. Dan noticed too late. It crashed onto the collided cars, adding another car to the pile. Or so he wished. Debris flew all over and the car came tumbling at him as if the universe decided it was time.
It all happened too fast. He didn’t have time to react. It wasn’t fair. No way was he gonna die now. He couldn’t believe it.
Before he knew it, he was shoved to the side and his body slammed onto the asphalt. Pain shot through his body and he groaned. Another loud crash was heard as the car tumbled into a nearby store. What the hell was going on?
Dan- Ow…shit…
Elian-Don’t move. Can you hear me?
Dan: Ah…It’s him…that shortie.
He thought to himself.
