Work Text:
"Diana?!" Your voice echoed in the empty halls of your shared mansion. Where was she? She texted saying she was home after you saw the news on tv. A dangerous occurance happened mid-city, which left schools like the one you worked at in lockdown for hours, and lots of destruction in its path.
The Justice League fixed it....but not at the cost of quite a few lives. Both civilian and hero's alike died that day.
Your feet worked quick up the stairs and to your room, where your wife was still trying to process everything. The room was dark, and she didn't seem keen on moving, in baggy clothing and buried under the blankets.
"Diana? Hun? Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?" As you approached, it was clear. She was beaten up, very clearly, but she didn't go to get help. She did a sloppy job at nurturing her injuries with bandaids and bandages.
Diana turned back to see you, and you could have sworn her eyes lit up a bit at the sight.
"Y/n.." she spoke quietly, with a raspy voice.
You smiled at the clear indication that she was at least alert--not out of it--and came to gently try getting her up.
Diana didn't relent, she shakily stood up while you held onto her firmly, careful of possible injuries you couldn't see.
"You don't need to worry.." she kept trying to reassure you, while one of her bandages was still being bled through.
"You did a bad job at taking care of these, but I'm happy you tried." You ignored most of it all together, walking to a chair to set her down on. Down in a nightstand cabinet was a first aid kit you kept near at all times for situations like these, which was promptly taken.
"Please just stay still, what hurts? Anything in your torso?"
"My ribs hurt a little."
"Okay, I'm gonna check on that first to make sure you don't have anything broken, does breathing hurt?"
"Only a little." Diana did seem extremely exhausted--which is expected from a situation like that. She barely reacted when you pulled up her baggy grey shirt and gently prodded at her ribs, which looked a little bruised, but nothing severe.
"Okay...if breathing feels harder or hurts more, let me know right away. New let me see those arms.." you smiled for reassurance and pulled over a chair of your own, sitting across from Diana as you worked on replacing her bandages. The smaller cuts got some ointment and one of those kiddy bandaids--cat ones to be exact. Diana cracked a small smile at the sight of them. She got a calico one, which looked like their own cat you two adopted a few years back.
"It looks like Triumph.."
You nodded and rolled up her left sleeve as she stared at the bandaid on her right wrist, "Yeah, it doesn't, doesn't it?"
She nodded back, "Yeah...."
Once you fixed up that small cut, you shifted your hands up to her cheeks.
"I'm glad you're alive, hun. I am. I love you."
Diana sighed and leaned into your hands, letting herself grow emotional. Tears pricked at her eyes as she shut them.
Your expression softened and you leaned forward to gently kiss her forehead, then her cheeks, "Aw, that's okay...I know, you worked hard to day, and you did the best you could have done." You stood and opted to picking her up manually, using what little strength you had to carry your wife to your shared bed.
She cuddled close to you as the blankets were pulled over the both of your bodies.
"Let's try getting some rest in...yeah?" Your voice broke the silence, rubbing her back soothingly as you spoke.
"Mm.." she sniffled and nuzzled into your chest, finding comfort in your warm embrace.
Safe at last.
