Sunlight Sisters: Of Love, Vows, and Demons

Summary:

WHAT IF THERE’S LORE IN HOW THEY MET?

This is for the lovely anon who asked about my KPop Demon Hunters AU

P.S. this isn't really long, just a short background story of what might have happened hehe ~ but I might come back to lengthen this or remake ittttt

Notes:

This is the result of my deeply unhinged love for Epic: The Musical and KPOP Demon Hunters — two worlds that accidentally fused in my brain and gave birth to this soft-burning AU (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)♡

Featuring my beloved ships: Antimachus (Telemachus x Antinous supremacy always but this ain't their story yet) and OdyPen (Odysseus x Penelope because what if forbidden love but ✧ demon ✧)

This is a quiet (not really hahahaha) "what if". A gentle unraveling of a mother’s story, long before her son would step onto the stage.

Thank you for reading. <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Penelope was one of the Sunlight Sisters, a renowned idol group known for their beautiful songs that could move souls and behind their roles as idols, they were also the divine hunters blessed with sacred voices and powerful harmonics. Each member was trained to slay demons through the blend of rhythm and spiritual warfare. They were famous and beloved.

But Penelope was different.

While the others followed orders without question, she began to wonder. 'What if not all demons were evil? What if they could feel, love, change?' It was a quiet doubt at first, a passing thought between missions, but it grew louder every time she saw fear in the eyes of something she was told to destroy. Every time her voice made a demon cry instead of scream.

She didn’t voice it aloud. Not yet. But she held it in her heart.

Then one night, during a solo recon mission, Penelope wandered too far from her group and found herself alone in a forest marked by corruption. Instead of calling for backup, she did something strange. She sang. Not a battle hymn or a summoning verse....just a song. One she made up on the spot, about a world where demons and humans didn’t need to fight. A world where songs healed instead of killed.

She thought she was alone, but a demon heard her and it was Odysseus, one of the older ones. Well-known in the demon realm, dangerous and powerful. And yet, when he heard her voice, something changed. He couldn’t hear Gwi-ma’s voice anymore. The spell of command snapped like a thread. Gwi-ma’s controlling voice, always present, always pushing, vanished beneath her music and for the first time in centuries, he could think freely and what he felt was awe. For a brief moment, all he could hear was Penelope and the hope she sang about and he too believed in her hope.

They stood there for a long moment. Two enemies taught to fight each other, caught in the hush after a song. Then, slowly, they spoke. Not as hunter and demon. Just….as two beings.

"How is it," she asked, voice tentative, "living in the demon realm?"

Odysseus blinked, surprised at the sudden inquiry. Then he answered carefully and truthfully. In return, he asked, "What’s it like....being a hunter?" And she told him....about the scent of grass after rain, about laughter behind stage curtains, and about the heaviness that followed every exorcism, no matter how righteous it was supposed to feel.

They met again after that, quietly and in secret. At first, they called it coincidence, then duty, then "just one more time."

But with every meeting, the walls thinned and somewhere between shared stories and stolen starlight, Penelope realized, she didn’t fear him anymore. She trusted him.

And it wasn’t long before she understood the quiet ache in her chest for what it was: she was in love.

It was a betrayal to the order and a blasphemy to everything they’d been trained for.

Penelope knew something was different before she ever confirmed it. The signs were subtle at first: fatigue, headaches, the quiet intuition that her body was changing. And when the truth finally settled in, it wasn’t just fear she felt. It was awe, terror and wonder all at once.

She was pregnant.

It should have been impossible or at the very least, unthinkable. But somehow, she and Odysseus, the demon she should have slain, the one who listened to her songs instead of silencing her...... they had created something between them. Something alive and something neither the world would accept.

Still, she kept it to herself....for a while.

Penelope was one of the three members of the Sunlight Sisters, a legendary trio of demon hunters who had once taken the world by storm with their voice, skill, and strength. They were idols, warriors, symbols of hope. But nothing could have prepared them for the fracture that followed her confession.

When Penelope finally told her group she was pregnant, everything cracked.

She never told them who the father was. No, she could not. Not just for Odysseus’s safety but because she didn’t know how to explain it. How to admit that she’d fallen in love with someone she was raised to fear. That the child growing inside her carried the blood of someone the world would call a monster.

The news hit hard. One of her teammates walked away entirely, unable to accept what felt like a betrayal of their mission.

But Athena stayed.

She didn’t press for answers and she didn’t demand the father’s name. All she saw was her best friend, terrified and stubborn, protecting a life that shouldn’t have existed, but did.

So Athena promised. She swore to protect everything Penelope loved: the child, the legacy, and the uncertain future trembling in her arms. She promised it without conditions and without knowing the truth.

And yet, when Telemachus was born, the truth revealed itself.

It wasn’t immediate but under the soft light of dawn, as Athena cradled the newborn, still flushed and wailing in her arms, she noticed something barely there and was faint.

Then she saw the tiny curling sigils beginning to bloom just below the crook of his arm. They shimmered faintly when the light touched them, like ink written in starlight, whispering in a language no human was ever meant to understand.

Ancient and forbidden.

Athena froze. She had only seen markings like that in one place before. In the restricted archives below the Hunter Temple. Sigils traced to high-ranking demons; contracts bound in blood and heritage and now they were on Penelope’s son.

Her breath caught.

It wasn’t loud. There was no divine thunder or flash of truth. Just a quiet realization, as terrifying as it was inevitable.

The child wasn’t fully human....and still, she held him closer. She didn’t speak, she didn’t panic and she didn’t flinch.

Because the promise had already been made and Athena had never broken one. Not to Penelope. Not now, not ever.

- - - - -

Odysseus never came back.

He had disappeared into the shadows, into the deep places of the demon realm where even hunters dared not tread. Not because he didn’t care, but because he did. Because if anyone ever found out his child lived aboveground, they would come for him, for Penelope. And worse for his child.

- - - -

Athena never said a word.

She didn’t need confirmation because she already knew and yet she stayed. Because no matter who his father was, or what blood stirred behind those quiet, blinking eyes, Telemachus was hers to protect now.

And Athena would not fail him.

Penelope, pale and barely conscious, never asked if Athena knew. She didn’t have the strength to speak, and she passed soon after; one hand still reaching for her child, the ghost of a song lingering on her lips.

Telemachus was born of two worlds and he was never meant to survive. But Athena remained and she kept her promise.

Notes:

Thank you for reading (´︶`)♡

I honestly didn’t expect this to become so emotional, but Penelope deserves her own myth. I LOVE HER. She deserved more than what she got, so this was my way of honoring her strength and planting the seed of Telemachus’s story with quiet heartbreak.

If you liked the AU or have headcanons, SCREAM WITH ME. I love talking lore and demon-hunter drama and I will 100% roll on the floor with you about it.

And to that lovely anon who asked, thank you for the spark that set this idea in motion ヾ(≧へ≦)〃(´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

Until next time, stay safe!

With love and lore,
Zenny (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
