Sticks and Stories: an assortment of scripted scribbles

Summary:

A collection of drabbles and such I've written for/with AvA/AvM in mind, whether they're mean to reside in and/or outside of canon.

Most recent chapter: Actual Short: Yeet (canon compatible)

Notes:

She moves her feet in sync, making sure they feel just right. Firm. Tight. Dependable. She's done it again!

She gives a proud little sigh before looking back up at her friend, to see how they're doing.

Victim is... well, they're doing it for sure, at least.

Prompt (Suggestion): write about Mitsi tying her shoes

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Suggestion: shoe laces (canon compatible)

Chapter Text

Mitsi starts to hum a short, jovial melody as she holds out the two ends of the shoe string, the tips of her digits clicking against the hard plastic aglets. She re-adjusts the sides of her skates, making sure her feet are comfortable and firmly in it. With that, she pulls the laces tight.

Her digits hold the laces near the end as she makes them dance together, one under and over the other. She tightens again and loops the lengths, to make "bunny ears", as it were. Now, as she loops her little melody, she loops the ears around each other, pulls, and makes a firm knot. Mitsi gives a small smile before she reloops, re-knots, and tugs at her skates. She looks at her other skate and repeats the same pattern, but mirrored: slip on, tighten, weave and loop, pull and tie, and loop, pull and tie.

She moves her feet in sync, making sure they feel just right. Firm. Tight. Dependable. She's done it again!

She gives a proud little sigh before looking back up at her friend, to see how they're doing.

Victim is... well, they're doing it for sure, at least.

Vic has never been a fan of tying knots or string, always leaning towards slip-ons or buckles pr buttons. Anything, really, that you can take off in a quick motion. It's not an issue to Mitsi, not really - whatever makes Vic feel better - but she did chide them a little at the suggestion of slip on skates. It wouldn't be safe.

Anyways, Vic, in velcro skates instead, stands still like an awkward statue on the edge of the skating rink. They're all stiff and solid, at least, for someone so nervous.

She gives a light chuckle as she lightly drops herself down onto the ice and skates over.

"How's it going, dear?" she asks softly, tamping down her giddiness.

"I-it's going, Mit," Vic expresses, their gaze clearly focused on the solid ice below them.

Mitsi sighs. Looking around, she can see a small crowd's worth of other animations all enjoying their days; a few young sticks showing skating tricks (and some of them even succeeding at it), a troupe of those who skate like Mitsi breathes showing their mastery with pride, a small family of three all taking turns to show their youngest the basics. Sticks of all types, skill, and confidence trying their best on the slippery glass.

She turns back to Vic, still staring down at the cold surface, their left hand gripping the side of the rink, their left gripping their chest.

Mitsi slides her hand into Vic's view, to reach out, for them to take. Vic slowly looks up to her, a shy question in their tilt, and Mitsi gave back a tilt of her head in kind. Of kind.

Vic reaches one hand to hers, letting her balance them up, and she in turn reaches for the one giving the painted white wood a tight grip and slides it into her free hand.

The two each take a moment, standing on the edge of the rink, hands in hands, keeping each other balanced. The sounds of excited yelling and jovial screaming becoming nothing more than an atmospheric din as the two breathe in and out into a comforting pattern.

She thinks the moment is over now. It should end, at least, or Vic will think too hard and this fun little trip won't get to happen.

"Hey, I'll make sure you don't fall too hard. Ready?"

Vic looks down at the ground for a couple of seconds before back up at Mitsi. Their nerve wracked shyness lessening in the skylit good day they're having.

"y-Yeah. I think I am, thanks."

And with that, they're off!

Chapter 2: Inspired: Actual Short: Yeet (canon compatible)

Summary:

With the local #1 redstoner running to tend to the redstone, Red tapped their digits nervously before walking up to Blue.

"Heeeey, Blue, so I had, like, a question and an idea for you, about a thing and if stuff can happen, and can I ask you about it?" Red was energetic in their go at asking. The way they started did leave space for a simple joke, though.

A fun little activity where absolutely nothing goes wrong!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Blue stared down at the, in their honest opinion, big sloppy mess of a redstone contraption. Apparently there was a way to make an automatic potion brewer, and while they love the act of making potions by hand, it wouldn't hurt to have a nifty doodad around for when they were busy with something else. In theory.

In practice, however, the mess of redstone and hoppers in front of them was making their head spin. Maybe they needed to reread those notes on logic gates, or look up on the internet for working machine builds and there's a bunch of busybodies behind the couch, isn't there?

Blue dramatically sighed before rolling their head to see -yep!- two sticks watching Blue's handiwork. They gestured their audience to come out, and felt a bit of charm to see Yellow and Red popped up.

Tapping their hands and digits together.

Okay, suspicious. Definitely suspicious, but maybe a nice surprise amount of it? Blue silently reasoned. If there was a prank at play, they definitely would have been tugged and pulled into something, not just silently stalked.

Yellow tilted their head in curiosity, clearly at the potion brewer, and Blue nodded. Yellow can do this better. Or make it interesting, at least. The project must look self evident, right?

With the local #1 redstoner running to tend to the redstone, Red tapped their digits nervously before walking up to Blue.

"Heeeey, Blue, so I had, like, a question and an idea for you, about a thing and if stuff can happen, and can I ask you about it?" Red was energetic in their go at asking. The way they started did leave space for a simple joke, though.

"Hmm, well you did just use your question, I dunno-" Blue was shoved mid cackle, as Red was already flustered at the deflection. It was still funny though, in their honest opinion, but not true lmao worthy.

"Yeah, for real though, Red; what's up?" Blue patted the other's shoulder as added encouragement, not wanting to shut down a good or fun idea in the making. It seemed to be working, as Red looked pumped.

"Well, Yellow and I got to chatting about a bunch of stuff, and Yellow brought up how good you are at grabbing and throwing sticks, and I wanted to see if you can do that to me, as far and high up as you can go. I wanna get yeeted so far up, dude, it would be fun, right? Right?!" Their body language has gotten more and more emphatic and bouncey as they spoke, practically jumping on the balls of their feet by the end of it.

Blue looked at Red in curious surprise at Red before looking wordlessly at Yellow, who clearly was listening in, since the dang potion thingy wasn't already finished one way or another. Yellow nodded.

"Yeah, it kind of just came up in conversation. You want to try it, though? It might be fun," their tone sounded calm and purely like a statement of the truth, but Blue knew that Yellow would absolutely love to see the attempt and results of throwing Red up really really high.

Not gonna lie, though; Blue was also interested in seeing that happen, and they were definitely the best choice for the job. And it would be fun. And they could do it, because they were not new to throwing friends or foes a good distance. And it would be fun.

"Yeah, okay, let's do it," they nodded, and watched the other two raise their arms in unadulterated cheer.

"Ready?" Blue asked, a good pace away from the other two, stretching their arms.

Red and Yellow stood a bit below the open Adobe Animate window; Yellow off to the side, out of the way of the path, and Red themself bouncing in anticipation. The two gave a nod and a digit up in approval, and Blue nodded back in understanding.

They started, feet and hands on the ground, like about to run a race. They pulled out a strength potion - just a I power potion, let's not get crazy with the first throw - and chugged it.

(Yes, there are splash potions, but it's not as fun if there's not a danger present. It's about the feel and the motions, okay?)

Dropping the bottle, Blue raced down the desktop path, bringing their arms up to grab at Red's side. They kept the motion as they spun with their full body, once, twice, like an Olympic weight thrower, before letting go as their head and hands turn to the roof, watching Red fly throw the air with ease.

Right up to the edge of the border of the Adobe Animate window, where Orange and Green were chatting about something.

Right into Green with the full force required to throw Red so quickly, knocking the two into the roof of the desktop.

Oops! Oh no! Oh fiddlesticks! Not again! Oof!

Blue covered enough of their face to look away in embarrassment and horror, to not see Red and Green thud onto the taskbar (after a bit of time delay.)

Blue held their face longer, feeling someone pat their shoulder in sympathy. Probably Yellow. A nice gesture, all things considered, but man. A lighter thump sounded off to their other side, probably Orange trying to figure out how and why that just happened. Blue kept their face covered in embarrassment still.

Green was probably owed a cake or something.

Notes:

[50/50 on if Green and/or Red took fall damage or just rag-dolled out of getting hurt, but Blue's point remains.]

[The reference to Blue meeting sticks can be traced to a bunch of episodes (AvA 4, AvM 31, AvM 36, just to name a few) and the "Not Again!" is in reference to Actual Short: Bottle Flip, with the cauldron.]

Notes:

[If you had asked which series would be the one to be the one to crack through my writer's block enough that I'd write and post something, I would not have guessed it would be (one of) the stick figures anime about trauma and friendship. This is mostly because I was/am a fan of a number of other series about friendship and trauma, the fact that they're stick figures is the surprise part.]

[ANYWAYS, these are a small collection of small bits of writing I've actually written, nothing big enough to be it's own work, but I wanted to share them because why not? I've missed making and sharing my work.]

[Tags will be updated with sequential updates, of course! Have a good day!]

[Also, if you have ideas or suggestions, I might try to do them too, if you'd like. Some of these stories might just pop out of my brain without help, but I like hearing others' thoughts!]
