reo woke up to baya urging him to wake up. it was 9 am and frankly too early and too cold to be awake. reo has no where to be today so he rolls over in hopes of getting a bit more sleep. just as he does that, his phone pings with a notification. usually he would ignore it but he specially changed the ringtone for his girlfriend's contact just for when she texted. he rolled back over with a groan and opened her message.
haruka 9:03 am
hello baby, idk if your awake but do u want to hang out at 1:30? we haven't been on a date in a while.
reo stared at the message. he felt a bit bad that he had been neglecting his girlfriend a little bit. she had asked him on a few dates in the last week but he had to refuse either for family or for nagi.
reo 9:04 am
hey, i am awake and ill be there. im sorry for neglecting u a bit its family stuff but ill be there today.
reo doesn't mention nagi to haruka. she can be a little bit of the jealous type. she knows that he and nagi are just good friends but she claims to have a "feeling". reo knows deep down shes right but he would never admit to that. he has deluded himself into believing that he only loves haruka.
reo stays in bed for a bit until 9:30 when baya insists that reo must get up now. he rolls over and on his feet and out of bed. reo goes straight into his adjoined master bathroom where he takes a nice warm shower. reo takes a lot of time getting ready as he takes pride in his appearance. he knows that he's naturally attractive but he likes to keep that up.
once he was ready he ate the breakfast that baya made for him. it was an omelette. he left the house and decided to walk to nagi's house. he often turned up to nagi's unannounced. he got there and repeatedly knocked on the door until nagi answered it. he looked dishevelled as if he just woke up, it was no surprise that he did just wake up. reo thought he looked cute but he would never say that to him.
"its 11 am nagi, how where you still sleeping?" reo couldn't hide the affection in his voice. "being awake is a hassle" nagi whines. "i bet you could sleep all day huh. go brush your teeth, ill make you food and we can play some games." reo often commands nagi like he's a pet but nagi never had any problems with it.
once nagi had eaten they gamed for hours. it was 1 pm by the time reo checked his phone. he almost forgot he had to meet haruka. reo got up from the couch and put on his shoes.
"reo where are you going? i thought we were going to game all day" nagi grumbled. "im going to meet haruka, do you want to come?" reo suggests. "yeah sure let me put my shoes on." nagi moves and puts his shoes on quickly. they both leave the house and call baya to drop them off to where they were meeting haruka.
when they got there haraku was already waiting for reo, she wasn't expecting nagi to also be there. "oh hello nagi, why are you here?" haraku was surprised to see him there given it was a date between her and reo. "oh i just tagged along cuz reo invited me" he was looking down at his phone no doubt playing a game. "oh cool." haruka was pissed off but she wouldn't say that right now.
"you look beautiful haruka" reo was genuinely saying. haruka was wearing her usual jeans and black t shirt and converse with her hair curled while made it come just below her shoulders. she was wearing her usual makeup with some eyeliner. "thanks, anyway lets go eat, im starving" she quickly brushed off his compliment to show she was kind of mad.
they arrived at a restaurant and sat down. reo and nagi sat across from haruka. nagi was still playing his game and reo was looking at the menu to decide what he was going to eat. the waiter came over to take their orders. nagi just got some fries insisting that he wasn't hungry because he ate a few hours ago, reo got a steak and fries with a cola and haruka just got a burger and fries with a milkshake. reo fussed over nagi saying that he should eat more and nagi saying it was a hassle. haruka could only watch their interaction as her heart broke little by little. she could see that her boyfriend was completely head over heels for his best friend knowing that he should be looking at her like that.
when their food comes reo makes little conversation with haruka. they don't really talk much these days and haruka missed reo. this was supposed to be a date for them to finally spend some alone time together. reo went back to fussing over nagi like he was an incompetent child. they finished their food and haruka was tired. not just physically but emotionally. to her it seemed like reo didn't actually care about her and he only cared about nagi. she was tired of the way that reo was acting and she wanted to leave.
"im tired, I'm going to head home. ill text you later reo." before reo could even say bye to her she was gone. nagi and reo decided to also head back to nagi's apartment. nagi was going to take a nap so reo decided to just go home. he called baya to pick him up and drive him home. as he was in the car he got a text from haruka.

hey reo, this is sucky of me but I'm breaking up with you. it feels like you don't really care about me and im tired of it.

what? haruka how could you say that? i do care about you. you're my girlfriend of course i care about you.

no reo you don't and today was a perfect example of that. today was supposed to be a date and you bought nagi with you. you haven't spent time with me in a while and i know its not always family stuff, i know its so you could hang out with nagi. i feel like im getting in between whatever you and nagi have going on.
reo froze when he saw that message. him and nagi didn't have anything going on so how could she assume that? he felt bad that he bought nagi along even though he knew it was a date.

im sorry i bought nagi along with me today. i knew it was a date and i still bought him along. that was shitty of me and i apologise, i didn't think you would mind. it was never my intention to hurt you. but me and nagi have nothing going on. we are strictly friends and that's it. im dating you not him.

thanks for the apology for today but there are multiple events where you prioritised nagi over me. you and nagi obviously have some deep feelings there and i don't want any part in it. when you fuss over nagi instead of fussing over me, when you look at nagi like he is your whole world and not me, it hurts reo. im not a priority to you and it hurts.

haruka listen to me. nagi and me have nothing going on. you are my priority okay, you. you are my girlfriend not him. i might fuss over nagi a lot but that's because i always have. he is my best friend.
reo was losing hope. he knew that she would end the relationship. the truth is, unconsciously reo had been hurting haruka. it wasn't his intention to but his feelings for nagi always seemed to overshadow his feelings for haruka. reo often acted on emotion, sure he was calculated but when it came to nagi, his emotions seemed to take over. so even without realising it, he had been putting nagi higher on his priorities than his own girlfriend.

im sorry but i just don't believe that you have no feelings at all for nagi. you have always put nagi on a pedestal. its okay though, i don't blame you. i know you never intended to hurt me. its just the way it is. i know you act on emotions whether you realise it or not. it just sucks that i have to be in the middle of it, which is why i want out of this relationship. i cant keep playing this mind game in my head, always worrying about whether you actually care about me. im tired of it reo.
reo knew she wasn't wrong. he knew he put nagi on a pedestal. he knew he acts on emotion. he feels terrible that he hurt haruka.

i think you're right. i have always put nagi on a pedestal and i do often act on emotion especially when it comes to nagi. im sorry about everything. im sorry for making you feel like i never cared or like you didn't matter to me because you did. im sorry that you even had to doubt that. im sorry i hurt you.

i know you never wanted to hurt me. its okay reo. well its not but ill get over it. truth is this was just my last straw. i had been feeling this way for a few weeks now so ive had my time to think it over and be sad over it.

well duh. that was a given. we will still be friends. just because we didn't work out romantically doesn't mean we can't be friends.

reo had already gotten home halfway through that conversation. he was sitting on his bed. he turned off his phone and lied down staring at his ceiling. how did he feel about nagi? obviously he liked nagi romantically but did nagi feel the same? he needed time to think this over. how would he even tell nagi? would he even tell nagi?
