Chapter Text
Tim was leaving the Wayne family. He finally got the message that he never would be one of them. After all he had done for them, he was to be threatened with being sent to Arkham by Dick, tossed away when Damian showed up, and Jason slitting his throat. Bruce was not much better, shipping him off to Lady Shiva to get trained, and when drunk, he was no better than Jack. Alfred was the best and worst, patching him up after Bruce’s drunken sparring, then forgetting he is allergic to eggs and almost killing him a few times. After making up his mind, he called the only remaining family member he had.
A phone rang at three in the morning, waking the two men in the bed next to it. The elder rolled over to answer the phone. “ Ciao (Hello)” the man said into the phone, not recognizing the number “ ciao prozio Groffedo. ( Hello great uncle Goffredo)" came from the boy who sounded like he had been crying on the other side of the phone. Tedesco was not surprised that one of his great nephews called him, but the only one who lived in America was Timoteo, the youngest, and he sounded like he was crying. “ Timoteo, Cosa c'è che non va? (Timothy, what's wrong?)” Tedesco asked, getting his bedmate's attention. “I Wayan non mi vogliono. Posso venire a vivere con te? (The Wayns don't want me. Can I come live with you?)” Tim asked. No longer holding back his tiers. “ Si, Si! ( Yes, yes!)” Tedesco answered, already making plans. “ Ted, Cosa c'è che non va? (Ted, what's wrong?)” Seeing the concern in his face, Bellini asked and deduced it to one of Tedesco's great-nephews. Tedesco handed the phone to him as he got up to get dressed and pack. “ Che succede, Tim (What's going on, Tim),” Bellini asked, only to be answered with Tim's cries. “Mi hanno buttato via e hanno minacciato di mandarmi ad Arkham ( They threw me away and threatened to send me to Arkham.)” Tim cried, knowing his great-uncle Aldo wouldn't fly off the handles, unlike Tedesco. Bellini got out of bed, started getting dressed, and packing. “ Sh, we are coming,” Bellini said, switching to English and hanging up. They were in Tedesco's home, which he had bought 20 to 30 years ago. It was supposed to be his getaway, but it became their love nest. They kept most of their civilian clothes when they got together there, making packing much easier than in Rome. They were also on their yearly vacation, which usually involved eating Tedesco's cooking and fucking each other's brains out. Now Tedesco is frantically packing while Bellini is purchasing tickets and booking a hotel room. Bellini had never been so glad Tedesco was a cheap skate. Growing up in poverty in a family of 14 and being the youngest would do that to a person. “ I have bought the tickets, and the hotel is booked,” Bellini said. He also emailed Thomas and Vincent to tell them he was going to America due to a family problem, and asked Tim to give him the hotel information. He sent the same for Tedesco. They were making their way to the airport. They reached the airport 20 minutes before their flight. Bellini was happy that the Italians never did anything on time for the first time in his life. They had just reached the gate when the plane was scheduled to take off. It wasn't much longer after they arrived that they boarded the plane.
Ra’s was surprised by Tim’s move. He had not known his detective had any family outside of the Waynes. His plans will need a few adjustments to get Tim on his side. Ra’s had looked up the detective's great-uncle, Cardinal Goffredo Tedesco, Patriarch of Venice and lover of the Secretary of State for the Vatican, Aldo Bellini. Ra’s knew he needed to get the two men on his side. There were many options for blackmail, but that would be more likely to backfire on him. Tim would erase the evidence and blow up more of his bases. No, he needed to come up with something else. He went over the two men's files again to see if anything would jump out at him and saw that Tedesco is a heavy smoker, and sooner or later, he will pass from lung cancer. The pit. He would give his detective some of his waters to heal his uncle. ‘Tim would be indebted to him.’ Ra’s thought with a smile.
Tim had packed what little he had in his room at Wayne Manor: his camera and gear, skateboard, clothes, and family photos from his grandmother, Isabella, and grandfather, Simon's wedding day. He also had his mother's sacrament of initiation (baptism) with Great-uncle Goffredo and his own sacrament of initiation with Great-uncle Goffredo. By the end, Tim had one camera bag, two duffle bags of clothes, his skateboard, and a backpack with his essential documents and the photos. He knew no one would see him. It was the start of patrol, meaning everyone was in the Batcave. Tim walked to Drake Manor, where he stored his car. The Wayns thought he had sold the Manor months ago; he had just sold it to himself as a shell company. He put all the luggage in the trunk of his 1973 Mustang and drove to Orchard Hotel in Old Gotham. It was the second-cheapest hotel in Gotham.
The first was in crime alley, and Tim would not let his great uncles stay there. He went to the front desk to check in. “ Hello, I'm here to check in under Tedesco,” Tim said, using his grandmother's and great uncle's accent. He had gotten the conference email from Great Uncle Aldo saying whose name the room was under. “ Yes, Tedesco. One room, two queen beds for two nights. Would you like to pay now?” the lady at the desk said. “ Yes, I'll pay now,” Tim said, handing over his new ID ‘ Timoteo Tedesco’.
