Okay here’s the thing. Melissa didn’t plan on getting drunk.
At least that’s what she told herself when Shauna brought up the party all together
Melissa was laying on her couch as she lazily watched princess bride for the 34th time (that week) when she had gotten a call, she stood up and went over to the phone, the call from of course her girlfriend
“Hey Mel” shauna started
“Hi baby” Melissa said talking a sip of her water as she stood by the wall
“What’s up?”
“Well…..Me Jackie and Lottie just went out to lunch”
“oh fun” Melissa said watching the tv from where she was standing
“Yeah and Jackie brought up this party that’s tonight…at her house” Shauna said with a little nervousness in her voice
“uh huh….” Melissa said not quite following, she could quite literally hear Shauna's silly eye roll and smile
“I was wondering if you wanted to go with us?”
Melissa smiled, she’d never turn down a chance to hang out with her girlfriend, ever since her and shauna decided to go public with the relationship, they hardly went anywhere without each other. The thing was Melissa and her twin brother Mike had a bet going, whoever couldn’t last the longest sober had to do what the other twin said for a whole month. And Melissa was not about to lose this bet even if she did want to-
“Melissa?” Shauna spoke on the other line, pulling Melissa out of her day dream
“Would you want to come?” Shauna asked once more
“yeah sure!” Melissa started eagerly, she could hear Shauna's smile through the phone
“Okay great i’ll pick you up around 9?”
“Yeah totally, but um i don’t think i’m gonna drink or you know…do substances i guess” She said twirling the old cord around her finger
as she walked towards the kitchen, not worrying about the cord stretching around
“What? Why? Are you okay?” Shauna said concerned
“No! i’m fine, it’s just…I uh… just want to um… stay sober! Yeah.” Melissa said trying to find an excuse
“huh…why? you got a hot date?” Shauna smirked
“Oh totally, she has brown hair these dark brown doe eyes she’s totally a nerd but a pretty one and has the biggest obsessions with flan- WOAH” As Melissa teased shauna, her karma came quickly as the cord to the phone reached its limit and pulled the phone and Melissa back. Melissa laid on her back as her hat laid on her face and the phone next to her body
“the cord got you again didn’t it?” Shauna said with a little laugh in her phone
“Whatever, I'll see you at nine. Love you” Melissa said getting up and walking to the phone
“Love you, see you in a little” Shauna said
That’s how she ended up in the passenger seat of Shauna’s car, wearing an old pair of baggy jeans, an old football jersey from her dad and a white long sleeve underneath (topped with her hat of course)
Shauna parked right outside of the Matthew's house putting the car to a complete stop
“Let’s go get our party on!” Melissa said as Shauna rolled her eyes
“you’re such a dork”
“You love it” Melissa said as she got close to the door
Shauna dipped her head with a blush and a
“Yeah I do.” then followed Melissa
The second they walked into the party hand in hand, Melissa was met with the delicious heavy smell of weed that could definitely get her secondhanded high. After a few hi’s from peers her and Shauna found a few people from the team, Lottie and Jackie chatting in the kitchen sipping on something that’s probably more expensive than Melissa's life, Lottie had a cigarette between her fingers of the hand that was holding her drink
“What will it be lovebirds” Lottie said taking a hit of the cigarette as she grabbed two more cups
“You know the usual lot!” Shauna said as Lottie nodded, making the malibu and milk and handing it to Shauna with a smile, as Jackie looked disgusted
“I can’t believe you let her drink that” Jackie said to Melissa, who shrugged
“it makes her happy, and happy wife happy life”
“Stealing my lines hat?” Melissa heard from behind her, she turned around to see Tai and Van walking hand in hand into the room, Natalie following behind lazily with sunglasses on, a cup full of who knows what
“Well it is a good line” Melissa said with a shrug
“What’s the drink of the night Mel?” Lottie said pulling the attention back to her
“Oh uh-” Melissa started, but then was cut off by shauna
“Oh Mel’s not drinking tonight” Shauna said
“What?! Why?! Are you okay?” Van said frantically
“I just don’t feel like drinking tonight. I'm giving Shauna a chance to let loose” Melissa said with a nod, turning back to Lottie
“Do you have a bottle of water?” Melissa asked
“Sure sober sally” Lottie said putting the cigarette back in her mouth as she grabbed one from the fridge, handing the water to Melissa
“Shauna never ‘lets loose’ she got high off of two hits of weed one time” Jackie said continuing the conversation from before
“That was one time when we were thirteen! And who knows maybe since i don’t have to drag you outta here i can finally let loose…show off my moves” Shauna said sternly, as they all stared at her, Van then started laughing, Natalie joining a short second later. They all were laughing at Shauna as she spoke again
“What?! I can let loose!” Shauna said crossing her arms as they continued to laugh
“I think Shauna letting loose would be the equivalent of a pole trying to let loose” Van said laughing
“Hey!” Shauna said pouting and turning into Melissa’s shoulder
“Don’t worry baby I believe you can let loose” Melissa said quiet enough only for Shauna to hear. Melissa knew Shauna heard it when Melissa felt the smile forming on her shoulder from Shauna
“Well” Natalie started after they all got done laughing “Me and Van will be going outside to smoke-” Natalie continued
“Hey! that’s our thing” Melissa said, arm still wrapped around Shauna
“Well you said you weren’t doing that tonight” Natalie spoke
“Well what if i still want to hang out”
“Then let’s Vamonos!” Van said grabbing a beer, kissing Tai and leaving out the back door, Natalie following behind
“Okay i’ll be back, go let loose” Melissa said to Shauna giving a quick peck on the lips and escaping out the back door as well, Shauna
sipping the last bit of her drink watching as the door closed
“Gonna need another shauna?” Lottie said putting out the cigarette but pulling out a new one immediately
“Nah, I have a feeling mel isn’t gonna need a lot of convincing to get wasted if Nat and Van are the ones convincing her”
“Yeah…” Lottie said staring at the back door, before turning back to Shauna
“I wanna see Shauna try to let loose”
“Try? Lots I can let loose!” Shauna said rolling her eyes
“Well then show us” Tai said turning to her, they all stared at Shauna waiting for her to do anything besides bob her head to the beat of the music.
Shauna slowly started dancing, trying to find any dance that could show she can let loose, but she ended up just doing the robot
“She looks like a sad person trying to show someone directions” Lottie whispered into Jackie’s ear
Shauna continued to dance turning around, trying and failing to do some kind of body dance
“Okay Okay, I think you’ve… proven yourself that you can…do whatever that was.” Jackie said, making shauna turn around and stop
“Whatever… I don’t need to prove my worth to you guys anyways” Shauna said crossing her arms, as the room went silent for a second, and then Jackie clasped her hands together pulling everyone’s thoughts away
“Well enough just standing here, let’s go have fun!” Jackie said, walking out the kitchen door
Lottie Shauna and Tai followed, a conversation instantly lighting up
“So what’s the real reason you’re staying sober tonight kid” Van said taking a seat next to Melissa, lit joint in hand
Melissa looked down at the ground “Uh just didn’t feel like it, like i said”
“i call bullshit ” Natalie said taking the joint in her mouth and pouring some tequila into a cup
“There’s no way you don’t ‘feel like it’ when you are practically eyefucking the tequila”
Van snorted at the comment taking a swig of the tequila herself
“Fine, me and my brother have a bet going on to see who can last the longest sober and-”
“Hold up” Van spoke as Nat and Melissa looked at her
“You’re staying sober because of a bet with your brother?”
“Yeah” Melissa shrugged taking a sip of her water
“Do you like…win something if you stay sober longer?” Natalie said smirking
“If one of us win the other has to do what the other says for a whole month and even though it doesn’t seem like a lot-” Melissa was cut off by Van
“Can I see this for just a second” Van spoke
“Uh sure?” Melissa said
“Thanks” Van said taking the cap off of the water bottle
“Wait why do you-” Melissa was cut off AGAIN by the sound of the water being poured out
“Van!”
“There is no way I'm letting you stay sober because of a stupid bet” Van said, setting the now empty water bottle down next to her, picking up the tequila and handing it to Melissa who refuses to take it
“No! I’m not losing this bet!”
“Mel, I've met your brother, ninety nine percent of the time he’s the only one sober enough to take you home, this bet will go on forever if you don’t drink first! Is one stupid bet worth losing thousands of drunk and high parties?”
“A bet where you aren’t even getting like…benefits out of it, i should add” Natalie added
Melissa debated her options, knowing Van was right. Her brother hardly ever drank, and that’s how the whole bet began. And present Melissa really could not give a fuck if she lost this bet.
Tomorrow Melissa…is a different story.
You know what, Fuck it.
“Ugh, fine, give me the tequila!” Melissa said taking the bottle and drinking like her life depended on it
“That’s my girl!” Van said, handing Melissa the joint after she was done drinking the Vodka
“But I'm not getting too wasted” Melissa said pointingly
“no problemo” Van said holding both her hands up like she was under arrest
and she REALLY wasn’t planning on getting wasted, but after three trips made inside to grab more liquor, she was still outside with Natalie and Van as they share two joints, have two empty bottles of whiskey and vodka next to them, six empty cans of beer on the floor and a full bottle of tequila, (well it was full, it now is about a quarter of the way full) now in Melissa’s hand, it was clear to say Melissa was the drunkest she’d ever been in her life, Melissa then remembered Natalie was still talking so she turned her attention back to her
“- and while I was telling her about what I had after school she just…kissed me!” Natalie said taking another sip of god knows what she had cooked up in the cup
“Damn. Quigley's got game” Van said following Natalie’s move, as she sipped on another beer
“What did you do after?” Melissa spoke slurring over her words
“Well she apologized a bunch for it and then ran away”
“oof… she ruined that moment” Van said
“But I asked if she wanted to hang out on Monday so we can talk about…it…I guess” Natalie said with a shrug
“What did you feel about it?” Melissa asked again
“I don’t know, I didn't feel… bad about it?”
“Well as much as it pains me to say it, quigs could be good for you!” Van said patting Natalie’s shoulder, as Van and Natalie continued to banter about misty, Melissa checked her watch to see that it was basically midnight, signalling she should call it a night
“I think I should-” Melissa started to get up, immediately tumbling and losing her balance, not quite falling yet
“Woah dude you’re drunk as hell!” Van said
“pssh no i’m not!” Melissa said, barely able to make the words out, standing up straight again.
“it is time for me to adventure off back home, thank you for a lovely night twinks!” Melissa said, slurring her words as she walked to the back door. and as much as she was wobbling and losing her balance, she opened the door and turned back to the duo
“Good luck soldier!” Van said, making her and Natalie laugh. Melissa then went inside closing the door behind her
Melissa could barely walk, every few steps she almost tumbled against her feet or tripped over something, she also very much did not know where she was going, all she wanted to do was get home and go to slee-
“Melissa?” She heard from behind her, she turned around almost falling just from that, to see… an unknown figure, her face was all blurry and she was unusually tall, she recognized the voice and she looked kind of familiar, but the girl in front of her wasn’t ringing any bells. For some reason Melissa had the idea to salute the woman standing in front of her
“Hello Captain!” Melissa stood like a soldier who just got caught doing something illegal
“I must inform you that I am…” she looked around trying to find words
“You are…what?” the unknown figure spoke again
“I am trying to figure out my way out of uh here!”
Melissa said slurring all of her words as she still tried to stand straight like a soldier, clearly failing, making the tall woman laugh
“Dude you are totally drunk! Shauna was right, they did talk you into drinking!” at the mention of this Shauna girl, Melissa perked up
“Wait, who Shauna is? can she take me home where is she tall woman” Melissa said, speaking the clearest she has all night
“Melissa? Do you…do you know who I am?” The tall woman spoke
“Uh, no? Should I?”
“Melissa, it’s me lottie?” the mystery woman spoke
“Who?” the name sounded familiar but Melissa was too drunk to search her brain for a person named Lottie
“Okay you’re drunk out of your mind dude, you need to go home”
“Aye aye captain!” Melissa said marching off towards gods know what
While stumbling towards wherever the wind was taking her she ended up bumping into someone’s back, as the figure turned around she was met by so much beauty.
“Hey babe?” The pretty figure talked
‘Who is she calling babe? I must be hearing things’ Melissa thought
“Hello, pretty person I do not know who you are, but you are absolutely the most gorgeous person who could be a princess holy cow!” Melissa said barely audible with the amount of words slurred
“Melissa? Are you…Okay?” The pretty figure spoke again
“AND you know my name? You are so smart, and very very hot. Whoever you’re dating is the luckiest person alive, but they are about to be the unluckiest because I am going to steal you from them!” Melissa continued, still very hard to understand, whatever she said made the pretty figure in front of her laugh
“So much for not getting drunk huh?”
‘AND she’s funny? she’s such a jackpot’ Melissa thought
“You are the hottest most sexy person alive” Melissa said out of nowhere, but Melissa was too drunk to care
“Melissa, do you remember who I am?” the gorgeous girl in front of her asked
“No clue…. but… I would LOVE to get to know you and-” Melissa paused to lean over to the mystery woman’s ear
“-Maybe other parts of you too” She finished leaning away and putting a finger up to her own lips to signal the mystery woman to keep quiet in what she had just told her
instead of stunning the woman, she just laughed more, which made Melissa confused, was she not being smooth enough?
“As tempting as that is, I think it’s time we get you home.” the pretty woman said putting her hand on Melissa’s back and moved her through the party, stopping at a group of girls, one being the tall girl she had an encounter with
“Hey me and mel are gonna head out” She said to the group
“I think that’s a good idea, she quite literally didn’t know who i was about ten minutes ago” The tall girl spoke
“Are we about to go have S-E-X?” Melissa whisper yelled, spelling out the word sex, making the three girls the pretty woman was talking to, laugh
“No we’re going home so you can S-L-E-E-P”
the mystery woman spoke
“How do you know where I live, mystery girl? I’ve never met you” Melissa said curiously, continuing to make the rest laugh
“Oh yeah she’s lost as fuck!” One of the girls said
“I know, that’s why we will be heading out!” The pretty girl said again
“Wait wait…One more drink?” Mel spoke again the group laughed
“I think if you have even one sip of a drink, you won’t make it out of this party” pretty girl said, making Melissa pout
“Alright bye you guys, see you monday!” The pretty girl spoke, pushing Melissa towards the front door, at the same time Melissa said
“You’re so pretty” making the mystery girl giggle a little
On their way out Melissa heard one of the girls yell “Good luck shipman!” towards the pair
“Your last name is Shipman?” Melissa asked
“Yes honey” The pretty girl softly spoke
“I'll have that last name one day.” Melissa said looking around the party with a daze look in her eye, the pretty woman paused for a second, she looked like a deer caught in headlights
“Woah are you okay?” Melissa asked, a little more serious but still slurring her woods, making the mystery girl snap out of her stare
“Oh uh yeah…” the mystery girl said as they exited the house
“How are you so uh…” the mystery girl swallowed
“…sure we’re gonna get married if you don’t know me?”
“Easy I don’t even know you and you’re the only girl i have eyes for… even though i’m sad you won’t have sex with me, you’re worth sticking around for” Melissa finished her slurry speech they reached the car, Melissa got in as fast as she can, with the help of the pretty girl
“That’s really…Sweet mel” The pretty mystery woman said as she reached the other side of the car, but when she got in, Melissa was already sleeping.
“I can’t wait to have your last name when we get married aswell” without Melissa’s knowledge the mystery woman spoke again very quietly, starting the car and driving
The next morning hit Melissa like a bus. She groaned rolling over, realizing she was conscious she checked if she still had all her clothes on, which she did. She then realized she wasn’t in her own bed, but-
She looked over to see Shauna sitting crisscrossed in the spot next to her staring down at Melissa
“Hey” Melissa said lifting herself to sit up a tiny bit
“Hi Mel” Shauna said back
“Were you just…watching me sleep?” Melissa said scrunching her face
“I was gonna wake you up, but you looked so cute and peaceful” Shauna said shrugging, she then reached for something on her side table. It was a glass of water and some tylenol
“here” Shauna said handing it to Melissa, making her blush
“Oh ...Thanks, Hey what time is it?” Melissa said taking the pills and water, then resting her head up against the pillow, Shauna lifted her arm to look at her watch
“It’s around one”
“Shit. I slept a long time” Melissa said slumping again
“You deserved it, went crazy at the party” At the sound of that Melissa shot up, making her head hurt even more
“What? What did I do?” Melissa said searching her brain for any answers of last night, but all she remembered was drinking the Tequila… and then waking up here
“You seriously don’t remember?” Shauna said smirking, which to that Melissa shook her head
“you drank so much that when we took the alcohol away you stripped all of your clothes-”
“No.” Melissa said
“Yes. You stripped and ran to the cooler and poured it all over you, and then ran all over the front lawn” Shauna finished, Melissa head in hand contemplating her life choices, then her head shot up
“But I'm wearing clothes?”
“Yeah, Me and Tai had to wrestle them back onto you”
“You’re lying….dudeeeeeh” Melissa said laying back down and covering her face, making shauna laugh
“I’m just joking” Shauna said making Melissa sit up again
“You’re the worse” Melissa said rolling her eyes
“But I'm not wrong about drinking too much. You drank so much you forgot who I was” Shauna said
“Oh my god actually?”
“Yeah, but it was cute. You kept flirting with me. Not knowing it was me” Shauna said laying down next to Melissa
“Oh that’s embarrassing” Melissa said rolling into Shauna’s side
“Did I say anything embarrassing or something worth knowing about?” her words were mumbled by Shauna’s shirt
And at the mention of that, Shauna thought back to last night when Melissa said she would have Shauna’s last name one day, and Shauna did want to mention it. But she also wanted to keep that memory to herself, was that selfish?
“Uh no just a whole lot of flirting” Shauna said putting her arm around Melissa
Melissa sighed
“Well if you excuse me I am going to sleep the tylenol off and try not to wake up with the feeling someone is screaming right into my ear!” Melissa lifted her head to give a quick peck to Shauna, and then laying right back down
it was quiet for a few moments, Shauna thought Melissa went to sleep. Until she heard, in the quiet voice ever-
“I can’t wait for you to have my last name too shauna” Melissa whispered before drifting off to sleep.
