Sweat

Summary:

“You need to come inside before you pass out,” Eddie says from their porch. He was standing there fully covered in a long-sleeved shirt and pants that were longer than his legs. He pressed against the door to avoid direct sunlight, but with how loud Eddie talks, Steve could hear him from where he was standing.

“I’m almost done!” he yells back, “just a few more minutes and I’ll come inside,” he goes to start the lawn mower again, but loses his balance and almost stumbles to the floor.

Work Text:

Steve was outside mowing the lawn despite how hot it was. Eddie told him he should do it later in the day, but Steve just wanted to get it done.

Their lawn has grown too high because Eddie hates mowing the lawn, and Steve’s been busy these last few weeks helping his dad with his company.

There is a lot of things Steve never expected to happen. One being his dad actually passing the company down to Steve, the other being married to a vampire.

His husband was in their house, probably playing his guitar still. Their windows were all covered with blackout curtains, so no sunlight could get inside.

It doesn’t bother him as much as other people think it would. They have a very spacious backyard with a pool for Steve to get all of the vitamin D he needs.

He wiped the sweat off his forehead; it was definitely too hot for this. He could tell by the throbbing that was starting in his head and the slight nausea he was beginning to feel.

He could power through it, though.

He would’ve hit the ground if it weren’t for cool hands grabbing him and holding him up, “Eddie the sun-”

Eddie just shushes him and leads him inside their house, “I wasn’t going to let you fall,” he sets Steve on the couch before disappearing towards their kitchen.

He closes his eyes for only a second before there is a glass pressed against his lips, “Drink.” Opening his eyes again, he sees that Eddie has taken the long sleeve off already and is now wearing a tank top. He can see the redness on his face and neck from the sunlight.

Eddie places his hands on Steve’s face after he takes the glass from his hands, “You’re burning up. I should’ve forced you to stay in because it seems like you can’t make good decisions for yourself.”

Steve glares at him but doesn’t remove his face from Eddie’s palms. His cold hands felt so nice on his overheated skin. “I’m an adult, I can do what I want,” he huffs while trying to drink his water without moving his face.

“Not when it’s threatening your life, do you want to have a heat stroke?” Steve wants to roll his eyes, but he knows Eddie is just genuinely worried about his well-being.

Eddie has always been overly concerned about him, but it definitely got worse when they got married. Everyone knew werewolves were extremely protective of their partners, but he never thought that vampires would be too.

“Sorry,” he says, placing his head on Eddie’s shoulder, sighing at the feeling of his hot skin against Eddie’s cold skin, “I’ll be more careful next time,” he promises.

Eddie sighs as he takes the glass out of Steve’s hands and places it on the coffee table before gathering him in his arms, “You’d be lucky if I ever let you outside when it’s this hot again.”
