Summary:

After their last failed kiss, Hikaru gives it his all

Work Text:

Hikaru and Yoshiki find themselves in their empty classroom. Taking advantage of the clubs going on around them to get some alone time without having to go home.

Unlike the other times, however, the air is full of tension.

Yoshiki uncomfortably shifts in his seat, staring out the window. Hikaru sat close by, staring daggers into him.

Like he typically did, he moved the closest desk he could find right up against Yoshiki's. He never liked being away from him for long, and the closer they were the better.

The past few days he's been thinking about that warm, fluttery feeling he had felt.

Hikaru had tried to start a conversation about what had happened that fateful day, but Yoshiki got embarrassed the second he mentioned it and didn't dare look over to the younger boy.

“Ya can't keep runnin’ from this forever Yoshiki.” He states, tone stern, desperately wanting to suck whatever information he was hiding out of him.

Yoshiki groaned and finally looked over at him. Hikaru smiled, happy that he was finally getting his way.

“You know how the characters in that book were, ya know, in love with each other.” Yoshiki started talking, barely mumbling as if he was worried someone would hear.

Hikaru nodded dramatically as he continued,

“Ya can't just kiss- er, ‘accidentally kiss’, anyone. It's meant for the person you love most.”

Hikaru was confused by this statement, “But you're the person I love most.”

Yoshiki groaned, putting his head in his hands, red dusting the tips of his ears.

“That's not what I mean.” He grumbled from behind his hands.

“But I do love you!” Hikaru started talking a bit louder, much to Yoshiki's dismay. Hikaru wanted to make sure Yoshiki understood what he was saying.

“Both me and the real Hikaru loved you.”

Yoshiki froze. Even after all this time, the thought of the real Hikaru was still a touchy subject.

“He never told me that.” Yoshiki's face returned to looking out the window, voice solemn.

Hikaru looked down, he knew that mentioning the old Hikaru always hurt him in some way.

“Um, well, he did. I promise ya he loved you a bunch. More than ya might've realized.” Hikaru kept his eyes glued to the floor, not knowing if what he was saying was making the situation better or worse.

A hand suddenly came down harshly on his head as Yoshiki started ruffling his hair.

“Hey! Heyyy!! Don't mess up my hair man!” Hikaru protested. He didn't think he could ever admit that every bit of physical contact, including this, made him feel happier and more human than any other moment.

Hikaru raised his head to look at Yoshiki. His eyes wet with tears, clearly that earlier comment had gotten to him.

“I'm sorry for making ya cry.” He said softly.

“It's okay, dumbass.” Yoshiki said, smirking slightly.

After a few moments of silence Hikaru finally drew up the courage to talk again.

“Can I still get a kiss?”

Yoshiki stared at him blankly, mouth open slightly out of shock.

“You still thinking about that?” Yoshiki's face flushed as he furrowed his eyebrows, thoroughly confused as to why this was so important to him.

“Well, ya’know how when you put yer arm in me it felt good? At least for me,, I wanted to know if this felt as good.”

“I want to feel more human.”

Hikaru had grabbed Yoshiki's hand halfway through talking. He wanted to make sure he had a place in this world as a being the same as Yoshiki.

“Yer a weirdo," Yoshiki replied, rubbing the others hand with his thumb, “ but I guess one wouldn't end the world.”

Hikaru’s face lit up, his smile reaching as far as it could go and his eyes squinting. Eagerly, he grabbed to the sides of Yoshiki's face and smashed his into the others.

“Ow.” Yoshiki mumbled, face still smooshed against Hikaru.

He pulled himself away, “Okay, okay. Ya need to learn how to do that properly.” Yoshiki wiped his mouth, noticing the small amount of blood coming from his lip. “Ya busted my lip dude.”

“I-I’m sorry.” Hikaru hadn't realized he hurt Yoshiki, he was just excited to do something he had never done before.

Yoshiki waved his worry away telling him not to dwell on it, it was a mistake after all.

“Here, just let me start it. Ya don't know anything” Yoshiki smiled slightly, pinching and stretching Hikaru's cheek.

His hand moved to rest on the side of his face, pinky finger being located under his jaw. Hikaru blushed, even though they touch all the time this was so clearly way more intimate than anything they ever did before. Yoshiki put his hand on the back of Hikaru's head, making sure to guide him where to go. The gap between them closed and Yoshiki's lips met Hikaru's. Yoshiki seemed calmer than Hikaru was, he became completely stiff, eyes wide open.

Yoshiki separated from him, smiling still.

“Ya gotta be a lot calmer.” Yoshiki told him.

Hikaru was still stuck in shock. The feeling that he had felt days before was back yet again and even stronger this time. He felt like his entire body was engulfed in a fire.

Yoshiki glanced at his phone, realizing what the time was,

“I'm gonna head out now, you should go to the bathroom and get yerself situated.” He smiled, standing up from his desk.

“One more is fine.” Yoshiki mumbled before gently guiding Hikaru's face near his and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. His touch lingered for longer than it typically would before he walked out the door and made his way out the school.

Hikaru slowly came back to Earth, his mind still stuck on cloud nine. As if he was a robot he got up and began walking to the bathroom.

Staring at himself in the mirror, he splashed his face with cold water. Though he didn't feel it much he still liked going through human motions. He still couldn't believe that had happened, and that it could feel so amazing.

After a few minutes of continued stunned silence he leaves the school and walks home.

Getting in his bed he curled up under his blankets. His thoughts were still racing and every time he thought about what had happened he started blushing and giggling like a teenage girl.

For the first time in a while, he shut his eyes and easily went to sleep. More peaceful than he might've ever been.
